Looking for best furniture arrangement for our living room!

last modified: 6 years ago

Our living room has multiple entryways, one small wall space flanked by two arch ways, one leading to hallway to guest bath and bedrooms and one leading to master bedroom. Opposite wall has a large window. there are two more arch ways, one large opening leading to dining room area and one small arch way opening to kitchen. It's a square shape room, with many opening and not a lot of wall space, many traffic patterns.

We were planning to hang tv on the wall, so the table it sits on won't be in room? But don't want to commit to that until we are settled on furniture arrangement.

    Any advice?

Would the t.v. work on the large wall where your sofa is? could the sofa then be placed opposite, I would take the extra chair and the console table out of the room until you decide on the placement of your major pieces. There is a big contrast in colour between your flooring (very light) and your pieces (very dark), in order to soften this perhaps a very large area rug or piece of broadloom (cheaper) cut so all the furniture sits on the rug. The wall colour could also be less stark. A suggestion for you is to draw your room on some graph paper and measure the pieces then move them around on the paper until you get something that you like (easier on your back than actually moving big furniture), once you have the big pieces in place it will soon come together. Good luck.

I need wider angle shots or something. The furniture just seems too big.

Could you close up one of those wall openings where the sofa is currently?

The piece of furniture in front of the window, could you move it over to the tv wall and put the tv on it - prob would look better there. It is very limited in what you can do, but I wouldn't worry about blocking off that one entrance (where the yellow picture is) as there is another way to get there.

Can you try putting the sofa facing the tv and have the 2 chairs where the sofa was.

Leaving a pathway behind the sofa. This might not work, but you could give it a try and see how it looks. Your pillows are a little dark. Could you choose another color from your rug (teal?) and get new pillows.

Try to remove the 2 ottoman ,the coffee table is enough ,move the chair around and yes the TV could be either on the wall or on a taller cabinet and the picture could also be moved a bit more to the right ,it looks too close to the TV..

yes if you flip tv to largest wall, looks like you could put the other chair where the ottomans are and couch across from where it is now.

Thank you all for your ideas. We have tried many arrangements, some that have been suggested, we have put tv on bigger wall which puts sofa in front of window and in front of the front door? And floating sofa seems to make sitting area very tight? We can't close off entry ways since the are the only entrance to a master bedroom and other one to hallway bathroom, guest bedrooms and garage? We did have Buffett/ console in other room before but was hoping to use it if possible? We had a larger tv armoire in there until we upgraded the tv to a larger size and current tv does not fit? Lol! My guys wanted a bigger tv! We are shopping to update look with new rugs, pillows, curtains very soon. We do have a big sofa and coffee table? The recliners are newer additions? But are smaller profile than your usual recliners? We will make some more moving around and post some more pics! Thank you all again for your feedback! Stay tuned!
