This colonial home was lacking curb appeal. The entry beds were too narrow for the scale of the house and the plants were overgrown and did not match the formality and symmetry of the architecture. The homeowners wanted a colorful perennial garden that complemented the house, with a nod towards the Texas native landscape. We accomplished this through a garden entry that offered structure and symmetry. The entry stairs were flanked with new low, stone pedestals to house planting urns. And the new planting beds and entry path were bordered with a low boxwood hedge to match the formality of the house. The design also called for much larger planting beds, spanning the entire front of the property, which now gives the entry the proper scale for the house and lot. The plant palette was designed using primarily native Texas plants, giving the garden colorful blooms throughout the year. It’s got an English garden feel with a Texas twist. The homeowner (a gardener herself) has enjoyed adding new plants to the beds, continuously evolving this beautiful garden.
