I bought 2 spendy persimmons last year; neither made much attempt to leaf out. This year they are dead, but the rootstock is sprouting. I assume this is D. virginiana. Will they grow on to make trees equal to seedling trees?

I was looking at the nice healthy persimmons for sale in a nursery in pots and wonder if I had put them in really big pots for their first year instead of in the ground if they would still be alive...
