Karyn, I have several brugs with the same problems this year. I just looked at a couple of mine that I was waiting to open and there isn't a normal bloom on them. I'm hoping, too, that it's just the weather and later this fall things will improve. Size of the brug doesn't seem to be the problem in my yard because I have several that are as large or larger, such as Charles Grimaldi, and they seem to be developing fine. CG is a trooper no matter what the conditions.

I really do think that often it is environmental and could be only that for a very short period of time at a crucial tile of development of the flower embryo. Sometimes I think a short burst of heat for even an hour at an inopportune time does it.

I usually get some abnormal blooms during one flush with my JY but not the others. My CG even has some deformed flowers but not as many as the others. My CG is also very pale this flush. Well we certainly had extreme heat this summer.
