I doubt I am answering your question, but one curious thing about Hawaii is that there are plantings of various conifers at least two high elevation sites, at least. One is on the road up Haleakala (sp?). I can't remember the species there, but some of the conifers native to Western NA are there.

And on the Island of Kuai, I can't remember the name, but there is a park at high elevation that actually has redwoods growing there. If I remember right, it was not too far from the great canyon there, Waimea Canyon. It has been about 30 years since I was there, so forgive my fading memory.

Search "hawaiian botanical gardens" etc. Landmark Araucaria trees are almost stereotypical of older collections, estates and so on. The Haleakala feature is Hosmer Grove, there is parking and signage. But I walked right through the plantings and went out to the edge of the native vegetation, which is much more special, it having arisen in the world's most isolated location.

You can see Sequoia sempervirens interplanted with Cunninghamia lanceolata up at Kokee State Park on Kauai. Look across the field from the cafe and museum. It can be reached by going up the road from Waimea. The Hydrangeas up there are as large as a garage.

You must go to the Lyon Arboretum. They have many ultra-rare tropical conifers...

That should be easy, as it is near Honolulu.
