Thank you so much for the reply- we just got rid of the same configuration that you just mentioned. I liked it for a long time but found that the chair on the side of the window didn't work out well because of it's direction to the tv. we like to watch movies as a family in here, so i was thinking a sectional would be great. Do you have any advice?

If that's a doorway opposite the window, then you wouldn't want to obstruct traffic with the sectional's back to it. If you are bent on a sectional, I'd put one side along the window and move the t.v. to the other bookcase.

But really, two armchairs and a sofa are far better.

Bad place for the tv. What is on the wall opposite the windows? Or is it an entry?

Recommend drywalling in the niche over the fireplace and either raising the upper cabinets on the built-ins or drywalling in the area above the bookends.

Is the fireplace used? What type is it? Woodburning, gas? Reason I ask about the fireplace is that there is potential in this room to move the tv over the fireplace......the mantle would have to be lowered.

I have the same type of living room set up but have placed my furniture in front of the window and t.v. opposite of that. Because I'd like a sectional I will need to swap.

Okay how is a sectional going to make viewing the T.V. where it is one bit better than what you had . Why not 2 sofas in an “L” to make viewing the T.V better if you just want a change.
