Some photos from the past few days

last modified: 8 years ago

My gardens have been at peak this week, so I have quite a few good photos I haven't been able to post yet. I'll start with some red eyed flowers.

Ruby Lipstick trio

Lady Betty Fretz

Manning seedling

Spacecoast Francis Busby - I can't resist photographing this one. There is never a bad bloom.

Wisley

Herbgirls Cherry Moonshine - Excuse the weeds. It's been way too hot to weed recently.

Roaring Fork

Better Than Ever with Ruby Lipstick and Desperado Love in the background

I received this Lily Auction win three years ago as a single fan, and it just now bloomed. It is obviously not the toothy Spacecoast Night Vision. It is a very nice looking purple that I haven't been able to identify. Anyone recognize it?

Pinks in the seedling bed

I've been off this forum for 2 days and it's loaded with blooms. You know my eyes are drawn to your seedling pink bed, and SC Francis Busby is gorgeous as always. It's interesting about SC FrancIs Busby as just plain- FrancEs Busby is on my long list. It's described as lavender pink so on the opposite end of the color spectrum as the hot colored spacecoast. I'm assuming they are one in the same person but with the usual confusion about the e versus i in the spelling of Francis.......I like your purple Noid. I hope you find out what it is..........Maryl

Very pretty! SC Francis Busby catches my eye every time I see it, I just love that one. And your Ruby Lipstick trio is great - I noticed yesterday that mine (new last August) has a couple of scapes, so I'm very excited about that.

Beautiful! Love SC Francis Busby! The NOID reminds me of my Mary's Baby.

Is Roaring Fork a bitone? Your seedling bed is looking good. What is that gold-edged rose? Ruby Lipstick looks flawless. I can admire Francis Busby, but don't trust most Spacecoasts here.

Ruby Lipstick looks really good, & I really like SC Francis Busby.
How tall is your NOID? It looks a bit like Lounge Lizard. Nice tall, medium size flower, dark color & very purple looking usually. The only picture I have isn't great & in Photobucket that I don't think Houzz supports, but here is the link if it works

Maryl - The red orange is Spacecoast Francis Busby. It and the lavender one were named after the same daylily afficianado.

Mantis - Roaring Fork is only a bitone when it's this hot and you're spraying for thrips. The gold edged rose is Valentine Sweetheart (Shores of Time X Rosy Rhino). In this heat, the cream edge turns cream and gold.

Nancy - The NOID purple struck me as being a Hanson or Moldovan. I'll look at some photos of Lounge Lizard.

To me the NOID purple looks more like a Moldovan (Salem Witch or Lord of Rings -ish?)... I think the petals on Lounge LIzard are more pointed, but I haven't seen mine bloom since last year. Whatever the NOID is, I like it.

Thanks Debra. I thought there could only be one person named Francis Busby. But how about the correct spelling of Frances/Francis? Wonder who is right? Kennebrew or Bell? I'm assuming the spelling hinges on Mr/Ms Busby's gender. Haven't had the privilege of knowing him/her so don't know........Maryl

all are gorgeous. I love that Roaring Fork. soo pretty,as well as Wisley. just beautiful. really like your auction win, too.

Beautiful group. The slight white pencil edge on the NOID is nice but I think there are so many with those markings and colors that only the seller sadly will know for sure. Beautiful bloom though.
The pinks are my favorite but Ruby Lipstick still steals the show.

    About the NOID purple:

Laura - You are right about the bloom shapes not matching on Lounge Lizard and the NOID. The NOID has very round petals, while Lounge Lizard's are longer and more pointed. I know it's not Lord of Rings because I used to grow that one.

Nancykvb - The color is similar to Mary's Baby, but the bloom is 6 inches.

Julia - The seller was unable to identify it. Asking him was my first course of action. Out of the dozens of times I have received the wrong plant, I've only had one seller who was able to identify a plant by its photo. I always think that's odd. Several times sellers have replied that they don't have anything that looks like the daylily in my photo. So I'm always left wondering if what I got was a stray seedling.

Beautiful photos, Debra. I always love the reds, and Francis Busby is my kind of bloom. Can't photograph it too much for me. Love the pinks in the seedling bed. Better than Ever is really pretty too.

Laura - The photos on Salem Witch seem to vary a lot. There is one that looks almost exactly like my purple NOID.
