Tne Kansas City Star is looking for Mrs. Flick's Oatmeal Cookie Recipe. The Flick Bakery was open from 1926 - 1970 in KC. Her oatmeal cookies were sent to soldiers during WW II. It was a soft, chewy & 3" wide cookie. I understand they broke some of them up purposely & sold them for 15 cents a lb.
I loved those cookies! My dad and mom were good friends with Clare and Irene Flick and Dad worked right down the street from their Cookie Shop. He brought home broken cookies all the time and the oatmeal was my favorite! They lived in a neat house at Lake Lottawana and drove a cute little T-bird. Happy memories! Wish I had that recipe for you but unfortunately I don't. I am sure they have passed away and as I recall they did not have any children.
Constance Zimmerman... I had never heard of Mrs. Flick's recipe, but oatmeal cookies are my very favorite. Since you've had them, do you think you could begin to duplicate them? It might be worth a try.
I am a grand daughter of irene flick. I live in arizona. My family has searched everywhere for that receipe. My mom has the orginal flicks cookie jar in her kitchen.
Irene was my great -aunt, my maternal grandmother's youngest sister. I remember her house at Lake Lotawana for its endearing charm and quirkiness. She had a pet mynah bird there. But the cookie shop was a kid's dream come true. Oh, it smelled so good! The adults would have me sit on a large metal can to stay out of the way. The sugar cookies had a hole in the center and i could stack them on my finger like rings. They let me eat as much as I wanted, to keep me occupied, I'm sure. I wish I still had our old cookie jar!
My husband’s grandparents lived next door to Clare and Irene Flick at Lake Lotawana! He remembers the cookies too! The sugar cookies with the hole in the center! He remembers stacking them on his finger!! Unfortunately, he does mot have the recipe either. He has fond memories. His grandparents were Wayne and Theresa Fling at X9 Clare and Irene were at X7!
