The doors are finished using the Sikkens 1/23+ product in Butternut (one coat Cetol 1 and two coats Cetol 23+). All coats contain pigment so the color gets richer with each coat. These doors have smooth sanded wood. If your beams are rough textured, I would not use Cetol 23+ (film building product). Beyond the aesthetics, you will create a surface with nasty little hardened daggers. Create some sample boards before you commit.

Sikkens offers other products that might also be appropriate for the beams. Sikkens is sold though Benjamin Moore dealers. Not all specialize in the Sikkens product so I would call around in your area and find one who is most helpful. Here in Austin, we use Hill Country Paint (aka Roosters). And check out the Sikkens web site, of course.

We have used Sikkens for 15 years and have found it to be the best exterior stain product by far for our custom wood doors.
