It has a great storage closet. I love the additional storage shown here on the door...great use of what is normally wasted space. Would any of these spaces or ideas work in your home?

One thing in its favor, there was a lot of built-in storage in this small craft closet. If you don't have a whole room you can convert to a craft studio, a corner of a room or a little-used closet can work quite well.

This year's Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia was designed with a craft "closet." It was literally a closet that had been designed as a craft studio and wrapping station, although I think gift wrapping would have been a little difficult without a nice flat surface to spread the paper out on. Not sure the desk would be a practical place to work with wrapping/craft paper hanging down inches above the desk. Umm, this may be an example of how NOT to design your craft room.

Here's a family workstation that would work well for crafting, homework or just surfing the net.

Some home offices convert easily to craft spaces when needed. It would even be easy to turn this desk surface into a wrapping station simply by moving the lamp, monitor and vase to the side.

Craft rooms and studios don't have to be designed with all white furnishings. Here's a wonderful example of one done with stained cabinetry. Wouldn't you love to peek inside these cabinets just to see how everything is organized and arranged?

If you don't have a whole room you can devote for crafty pursuits, find a corner to make your own. I especially like the wrapping paper bin designed into this craft space.

If your game is sewing, your creative space will look very different from someone who enjoys working with other media. Shelving for fabric storage will be a must, as will a large, flat surface for measuring and cutting.

Make a list of how you'll be using your craft studio. Then jot down all the supplies you normally need and use for those activities. That will give you a good idea of what type storage you'll need to design into your studio.

An old china hutch can easily be repurposed for craft storage. Just sand it and paint it to work with the other furnishings in your space.
