I'm no pro at this since it's only my second year growing roses from seeds. This year I have seedlings from intentional crosses along with the ones from open pollinated seeds, but I don't think that's boring so I'll save it for somewhere else.
Anyway, to avoid mold the first thing is to just really clean the seeds very, very well. I scrub rhe heck out of mine after removing them from the hip, to make sure any trace of flesh or hairs or anything is gone. Then soak for 24h in straight peroxide. You can also use oxyclean solution for the soak, I tried it this year on one batch and it did just as good a job at keeping mold away as the peroxide.
