I wanted to hire him but he said he did not want to work with us
I have to say, my husband and I were excited to partner with Mr. Long after reading these reviews and after meeting with him in person. After receiving the scope of work and estimate, we were ready to sign and ready to start working with Mr. Long. We shared the agreement with a relative who is a commercial architect and he said the agreement was reasonable, good and fair. He suggested asking a few clarifying questions that were simply asking what detail was included (vs. what was not included) so we would know what to expect. We were not demanding or questioning anything beyond his scope of work. He quickly emailed us back and said it was not a good idea that we work together because he was part time and felt like we needed more help than he was willing and able to provide us. This could not be further from the truth and we were, quite frankly, insulted that he cut us off at the knees via email without having any further discussions with us. We felt like he was perfect for our job and really liked him but we never received an email back from him after that last email from him. If you plan on using him I hope your experience mirrors the others on this page vs. our own.

Dan did a fantastic job on two different projects we have done on Keuka Lake.
The first was new construction of my shop and a 1500 sq ft apartement above.
And the second was the total renovation of a late 1800 cottage on keuka and transformed it into a beutiful B&B which is now Steamboat Castle. A total gut and five new guest rooms 8 baths and the owners suit. Also transformed two outside porches to living areas overlooking the lake,a guest kitchen, and the owners kitchen. They even designed the sphire which at some time had been removed and now once again is part of the house!

Dan took a very professional approach in our cottage redesign. He provided a comprehensive package including structural redesign, complete remodel, and septic design. He stayed with us throughout the entire nine month process and was available for contractor questions and minor redesigns.

I approached Dan to draw up plans for an addition to our 2 year old house. We needed to put an extra room on that would include a bathroom and small kitchen area. Dan was polite and prompt, asked pertinent questions and put myself and my husband at ease.
His turnaround time was super fast and he was happy to make a couple of changes as we requested.
All in all, I would be very happy to work with him again on any future project we may consider and would recommend Daniel Long to anyone seeking an architect.

Mr Long created a complete set of house plans from drawings and verbal request that will, when built , give us a comfortable energy efficient home for our family. Mr Long was easy to communicate with and responded very quickly to our questions. He was very patient with us and very helpful in explaining items that we were unfamiliar with. His fee was very fair and we would highly recommend Mr Long.

We are just completing a huge project rehabbing and old water pump station into livable space. Dan Long was just the right architect for us. He is personable and easy to work with. He has great ideas and always remains flexible enough to work with the client on the client's ideas, even if they sound unconventional. Dan knows the area he works in and this is very helpful when dealing with codes, inspectors, permits etc. His 3D drawings were a big help in picturing what the finished product would look like. We would definitely hire Dan again.

Great work on a rehabilitation of a landmarked urban building. Dan is easy to work with and friendly, and will work within any budget. Our space is very clean and modern, and flows well, but still keeps the historical feel of the c1820 structure.

Daniel has worked with our company, CedarCoast Timber Homes for several years and has provided design and architectural services for many of our U.S. clients. Dan is a master of art and creativity when it comes to designing and sketching out a new idea. He can scribble some lines on a piece of paper right in front of you and it comes to life on the page as the beginnings of a beautiful building.
Dan is also a pleasure to work with and we look forward to more projects together. I do not hesitate in recommending Dan and his team.

Mr. Long took an old 1830s bank barn and made it into our home. The result is a 3,500 sq ft home that overlooks Seneca Lake in the New York State Finger Lakes region. Dan used many windows in his plan and almost every room has a view of the lake. Dan is an innovative and dynamic architect. He has a very wonderful personal style that brought our needs and desires to the forefront in his architectural plans. One could not help to notice that he is very versed in the latest building methods and materials. He does very well with cost estimates and worked with with us to provide varied courses of action so we might be better informed as to our options. Overall, our observation is that Dan Long is a true professional who treats each client and project as special no matter how big or small the job. I highly recommend Dan Long to any prospective client.
