Lamar Design

We were absolutely blown away by Tom, Julie, Sam, and Cody at Lamar Design! When we embarked on our journey to renovate our home in January 2021, we were not sure where to turn. Our 1958 ranch had been added on to and felt boxy and out of date. Certain quirks of the home--glass sliding glass doors through the center of the home and in the master bedroom, a jack-and-jill master bath, a galley kitchen--all felt like obstacles that we did not know how to overcome. We are so thankful that we found Lamar Design. For starters, they took two tours of our home, once to get a feel for our space and how we wanted to design, and again to take photos and assess any structural barriers. We then had a few zoom meetings (due to COVID) and were tasked with creating our ideal design for our house. My husband and I had different ideas for certain spaces, but the team at Lamar took those ideas, then transformed them into a layout that flowed and even surprised us with the utilization of our space. Their idea to ultimately move our kitchen and reallocate an under-utilized hallway meant that our two main spaces of concern, the kitchen and the master, were open, airy, and spacious. They worked further to create a laundry room that had storage and function; created a new entrance for our garage so that our "garden" bath became an indoor guest bath; and turned our third bath from a tiny standing shower to a tub and linen closet for our daughter. They then had a structural engineer evaluate the plans and our home (we had to remove a load bearing wall. If we did not, the engineer would not be necessary) and get sign off! They even recommended multiple contractors so we knew we were working with someone reputable. They made sure that every aspect of the plans from structural to electrical to plumbing was ready to go and given to the contractor of our choice. From start to finish, Lamar Design was communicative, respectful, and considerate of my family and our needs throughout the entire process. They were so personable and we loved working with them! We highly recommend them to anyone renovating a home!

Sam, Tom, and Julie designed an awesome 4300sf custom home for us in Winter Park. We started with looking at some design concepts we brought along, but ultimately started to draw out a high-level footprint of what we might want. After a number of revisions over several months, we landed on an overall design that turned out really well. Their pricing was up-front and fair. Things I wouldn't change: - They recommended three builders, and ultimately chose one of them. That was a huge help. - Sam took my feedback -- good and bad -- and made adjustments quickly. - General consulting on things we wouldn't have otherwise thought of, such as encouraging us to finish off an area that we were going to leave unfinished due to budget constraints. Ultimately the cost to finish it was only a few thousand dollars, and finishing it after the project was over would have been a nightmare and cost 2-3x more. Things I would have done differently: - Would have gotten a 3D rendering. We have windows that go up our stairway, and on paper it made sense. However, once the block was laid we found they were a number of feet too high and nobody would have been able to look out as they climbed the stairs. We caught this before it was too late, but it required demolition of that part of the wall and some additional engineering in a hurry. That change cost about $1800, which I think was more than the 3D rendering would have cost. - I would like to see more project management from the team. I would venture that the majority of clients have never built a house before, and never will again. I expected a bit more leadership and drive on that front, and probably would have paid a little extra to help make that a reality.

Lamar Design did an outstanding job helping me make the most out of my home remodel. Their creativity and patience were much appreciated. I feel like the design process was truly a team effort and helped me get the most out of my limited space. I couldn't be happier with the result. Their team even assisted me with finding a contractor and were available to answer questions and provide guidance mid project. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

Tom Lamar and team worked on the design to turn my 60-year old Winter Park house into a modern contemporary home. My General Contractor often repeated how easy it was to work with the remodel renderings and plans prepared by the Lamar team and the City Inspectors had no issues following the plans for every inspection they did as they recognized they were done by Lamar Design. Tom Lamar and his team designed the plans for an ~800 square foot addition to our 1950s downtown home (Owner's Bed/Bath and Rec Room) and we couldn't be happier! Tom is one of the nicest people you'll meet and his lead designer, Sam - who we also worked with quite a bit - was an absolute pleasure to work with. The design came together quickly and the team was super responsive and helpful as we navigated the inevitable hurdles that arose during the permitting and inspection processes. 10/10 would recommend them for their knowledge, skillset, design acumen and the overall ease and pleasure of working with them.

We were recommended to work with Lamar Design from a friend of ours and found everyone on the team fantastic to work with! We have a 5-year plan for our home, which includes gutting the master bathroom, new flooring, an outdoor addition, and the kitchen. We began with the master bathroom and new flooring for the first floor of our house, which is approximately 2,000 square feet. The master bathroom included moving walls, electrical, and plumbing. Tom and his team took the loose ideas that we had and brought them to fruition. They learned our tastes and were able to come up with a design that very much aligned with the ideas we had. They had excellent references for us as far as who to use for the flooring, tiles, and cabinets. A member of their design team was also instrumental in helping us to select products that would flow well with the design. I would highly recommend anyone to work with Lamar Design. We are very happy with the experience and plan to use them again for our additional projects. I have included a picture of our master bathroom 'before' and also some after it was completed.

Could not recommend this amazing team of talented individuals any more. We are beyond excited with the home they designed for us and the process was wonderful. We asked for a dramatic makeover to a property and it was no easy task but this team easily went above and beyond for us. Thank you Tom, Sam and the entire team!

Great architect! We hired them a few years ago for a major project, and recently hired them for a smaller job. Great work, fair price, extremely timely, and good communication. Highly recommended!

The professionalism, communication, flexibility, patience (on their part!!), and their innate ability to meet me where I am at have been second to none. We loved working with Tom and his staff! They have a cute, cozy office in Winter Park where you can sit and discuss ideas and changes. Tom is very knowledgeable and very friendly, as is Steve Garrison, who did most of the drawing work on our project. Home renovation/additions can take a long time, but in the end, if you do it right, you will be happy with the product and add substantial value to your home.
