We had the pleasure of working with Eric on designing our modern home in Scottsdale, Arizona, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. We had a hillside property in Paradise Valley AZ that we struggled with for years. We wanted a design for a house that would incorporate all the outstanding views but would sit on the foundation of an older home. The reason being so that we could keep the existing retaining walls. We were introduced to Eric through a mutual builder. We interviewed a number of other architects but Eric stood out from the rest. His vision for the house and his eye on how to work with the existing infrastructure were exactly what we looking for. Eric worked with us throughout preliminary design phase and he came up with a design of a beautiful contemporary home that caught the impressive views of Camelback Mountain, the Papagos and downtown Phoenix. Eric managed the entire Hillside Review process with the Town of PV, which was a process that took over a year. While going through Hillside, Eric produced all the construction documents so once we received Hillside approval, we were able to immediately submit plans for a building permit. His attention to details meant he produced a set of construction documents that had very few of redlines. The final product was expletory. The floor plan draws praise from everyone. There is a view from almost every room and his design’s wow factor is off the charts. We feel very lucky to have found Eric and we were exceptionally pleased working with him. We would love to work with him again.

When we found a piece of property and were introduced to Eric Spry, we had no idea how fortunate we were. Not only did we find someone who could design our dream home, but also someone that could visualize and deliver absolutely stunning views of the natural surroundings of the Sonoran desert. We often tell others that simply put “Eric nailed every view we asked for”. At the beginning of the design process Eric documented everything we told him that was important to us and what we wanted in our home. He listened closely and often reminded us that this home should be uniquely ours, and not a copy of other homes we had previously seen. He is a tremendous listener who also gave us some amazing ideas to consider that we would have never imagined. One of our favorite lines from Eric is how “every detail is a unique note in the overall composition”. Eric also has a unique ability to work with HOAs, which helped paved the way for our home to be approved by our HOA architecture control board. The architecture documents submitted to the city for approval required very little updates, indicating he and his team of engineers provided a quality product that sailed through the permitting process. Eric doesn’t just design a home and move on to the next project. He worked with our builder to see our project through the entire construction phase. His attention to detail during construction was almost as important as what he put on paper. He cares about and contributed to details during construction such as the layout and location of tile and grout lines on the floors, alignment of the window frames in coordination with both interior and exterior details, and the alignment of all the ceiling details including lights, ceiling fans and vents. He ultimately provided input into many details along the way to help ensure the final product not only met but exceeded our expectations. Eric's use of floor to ceiling windows provided us with life changing views we see from almost every room throughout the house. He educated on us the right balance of color and texture in both the interior and exterior. He was instrumental in creating interior elevations for our fireplace feature wall, and kitchen and bathroom details including design and placement of cabinetry, mirrors, appliances, sinks, etc. Additionally, Eric provided us with his design and architectural opinion on many of the interior selections we made along the way, which was very helpful in solidifying our decisions. It is obvious that Eric is invested in his clients from beginning to end and is a joy to work with. He has a passion for his profession and truly loves the artistry of architecture. We would highly recommend Eric to anyone looking to design a custom home.

Eric was truly invested in our project from the start. He was genuinely motivated by the opportunity presented in the varied terrain and the expansive views from the 24-acre property where we wanted to build our home. Before we even signed a contract, he would drive out to our property on more than one occasion and walk the site for creative inspiration. One time onsite with Eric he gazed out at a distance and told me that he wanted the structure to look as if a big raptor flew out of the sky and landed on the ridge with its wings extended. I said, sounds interesting - if it won’t have a beak and a tail let’s go with that. By then I knew Eric was not going to just throw together a design and move on to the next client. I can say that the design experience was rewarding and collaborative. Eric welcomed our ideas, listened to them, and often used his creative imagination to embellish our ideas into something even grander. When executing on a design for a home that has never been built before, you will encounter problems along the way. Eric applied his expertise and extensive resources to solve problems during the construction process so we could effectively accomplish our goals. Designing and constructing a custom home comes with some stress and anxiety. Nevertheless, it was pleasant and fun to work with Eric and we felt like we were his only client. I love a great sense of humor and Eric does not disappoint! Of course, the result of all this effort is a home that you must live in. Ours is a distinctive one-of-a-kind home that functions nicely and most importantly, it's a joy to live in it. Spry Architecture is highly recommended.

When we relocated to Arizona, we were looking for an architect that specialized in designing contemporary homes. From our first meeting with Eric, we knew we found the perfect architect for this project. We had a specific dream house in mind and Eric executed it to our specifications. He truly listened to us regarding the size, style, space and how we planned to use each room. From our first set of drawings, he just seemed to "get it." Any changes we requested were immediately addressed and problems worked through until we had our home plans completed. Eric was fully engaged during the building process, a key point, because the supervision of the build is as important as the architect's design. Eric supervised and oversaw all stages of the build. An important consideration when choosing an architect is the quality of his engineering team. Fortunately, Eric's engineers are very skilled and prompt to handle issues that arose from the town permitters and the builder. Building a home is fought with anxiety, stress and frustrations, especially during a pandemic with shortage of materials and supplies. Eric kept us grounded, helping us keep our eye on the prize and what a prize it turned out to be. Our home is everything we hoped for, wished for and we couldn't be more pleased with the end result.

We worked with Eric to design our custom home in Phoenix. We were drawn to Eric's clean lines and efficient use of spaces. Eric's passions for modern architecture and client service are at the forefront of all he does. Eric was collaborative and thoughtful, listening and applying our feedback and providing his years of experience in his responses. We also engaged Eric for construction admin services, which we found invaluable throughout the build process. To say he isn't the best would be a crime. He is transparent, fun to work with, always working in our crazy ideas, and making a completely functional home for us. We have three kids with autism who receive therapy so having different spaces is important and he made that. Plus we have odd habits and wants and they are all in the house. Outside of that he is truly on the journey with you. We talk to him consistently and get weekly updates. I always know Eric will be there any time that something comes up for all his clients. I appreciate that when he met us he took all of who we are and put it into our forever home. We interviewed multiple people and he hands down beat them all. Also, he makes sure the project is moving forward. But is helpful with us being patient and not stressing because he is always following up. This allows me to just trust his process. I seriously could go on forever but I just can't say enough great things.

Although we have not build our dream house yet, the dream hasn’t faded. I have to say, even though it's been quite awhile since we worked with Spry, I think about Eric and my house that he designed often. To say he was the most talented architect, doesn't come close to describing him. He is kind and he never forgot that it would be our house. I know that probably sounds funny, but most of the architects I interviewed were not really listening to us. When I talked with Eric though, the conversation was completely different. I felt an instant connection with him and I knew immediately he was the right person to take our ideas and make them a reality. We love, love the design and think the world of Eric. Every once in a while we get to work with some really talented people and Eric is one of these people. When my wife and I relocated to Phoenix we found an older house on a lot that really appealed to us. Our intention was to remodel and upgrade the 1962 era house then on the lot. After looking for ideas on Houzz.com we came across examples of the work of Spry Architecture. Those examples showed creativity and displayed the kind of modern look we were interested in. We contacted Eric Spry and met with him to discuss our project. After that first meeting we decided to hire Eric to design our remodel. That remodel eventually turned into a new build. So we had the benefit of both remodel plans and a brand new build design from Spry Architecture. Eric's approach to designing a home or a remodel is based on his understanding of his clients. We spent a couple meetings discussing what we were looking for, what careers we were in, our interests and how we enjoyed spending our time. Eric made it clear that he works to design a home with the client's personalities in mind. What we liked about Eric was his commitment to designing a home that fit our needs, interests and preferences, not necessarily his preferences as an architect. And while Eric had strong feelings about various features and design elements, he always stressed that it had to be right for us. Another reason we rated Spry Architecture so highly was Eric's continuing involvement in the process from planning through construction. He didn't just hand us a set of plans, but he continued to meet as needed, and conference with the contractors and subs to arrive at solutions for any problem that came up during building. We felt our project was important to Eric, as much as it was to us. And whether it was an issue with a design element or with the city planning department, Eric was always available to offer help and assistance. Finally, we appreciated the honesty and ethical approach to the work of designing and building a new home. Eric connected us to a contractor as honest as he was. We felt by the end of the build that we knew exactly how much our house cost to design and build. We got some of the best sub contractors in the business, and while this project was by no means trouble free, we always felt we had people on our side who could find a solution. And they always did. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with the work Eric Spry did on our behalf. His design was outstanding, we love the creativity and modern feel to our new home, and we feel we've made a contribution to the city and our neighborhood.

Eric was the mastermind behind our contemporary dream home in North Scottsdale. We had interviewed numerous well known architects in the area with incredibly impressive resumes. Eric was the last of the interviews and we knew immediately that he was the person we wanted to work with. Eric spent a good amount of time with us talking about what we wanted and did not want in our home. He clearly listened very well because his very first concept drawing was just about as close as one could come to the final design. Over the next few months of tweaking the design, we spent a good amount of time meeting in person and talking over the phone regarding the more intricate details of the home. With so much of Eric's time spent listening and really putting his talents to the test, the final design couldn't have been more "us". Following the painless design stage, came a very long and brutal building phase for us. Between HOA design review committee issues, City of Scottsdale red tape and beyond frustrating experiences with our builder, Eric was always there for us. He truly went above and beyond his realm of responsibilities by going to bat for us on all fronts that were presenting significant challenges to us. There were a few times we really felt that this project was going to never finish, yet Eric was always right there being as supportive and informative as he could. We have now been in the house for over a year and can say without a doubt that the house Eric designed with us has far exceeded our expectations. As I type this from our lofted office with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and desert landscape, I am reminded of just how incredible of a job Eric did mastering what we wanted and capturing the very best of what this piece of land could offer. With that said, my wife and I can not give a higher recommendation for Mr. Spry. He has the personality, sense of humor, professionalism and raw talent that make him a truly an outstanding architect.

Eric was great to work with and was always responsive to our requests and changes. From the start, he introduced us to the world of architectural design and taught us to look at things from a bigger picture. From circles and blobs on a piece of paper, Eric created what we hope to be a livable and beautiful home that will have a unique and timeless look.

We our building a new home with the help of Spry Architecture. My wife and I have found it has been a pleasure working with Eric. He has good communication skills and helped us get our ideas onto paper in spite of our repeated tweeks. It is a difficult building lot and we had specific needs he had to address. It may not be as architecturally clean as Eric would have liked, but we made it suit our needs. We are at the City of Phoenix design review process now and are looking forward to a continuing great relationship. Some of his suggested design consultant subcontractors have been excellent to work with also. We are looking for builders now in the Ahwatukee area.

Eric and I go back to architecture classes back in freshman year high school '84. His passion for his craft has grown, unwavering. I am currenty working with Eric on the construction of our family home. It has been a wonderful journey! Eric has both a great artistic vision for the home but is also a detailed construction manager. He has carefully managed the subcontractors, held down costs, and worked hard to keep everything moving along. He is also fun to work with and is a great communicator.
