Our experience with Hammer was exceptional. We had a fantastic Project Manager who was really good at communicating which is always important. They worked hard, were thoughtful during construction, and produced a stunning kitchen. We are very happy with our experience with Hammer.

Five stars for Hammer Contractors! I had been putting off renovating my historic DC rowhouse for years and it needed some serious work. I was totally overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. Hiring Hammer was the best decision! They walked me through the process from start to finish, explained all the options, and came up with plans for me at different price points. I never felt rushed in my decision making and I really appreciated the time and attention they provided when discussing my options. During the renovation my project manager, Victor, and designers, Johanna and Rebecca, were in constant contact with me to ensure our project stayed on track and within our budget. My home now has new level flooring, a beautiful new kitchen, and an ensuite bathroom. It is unrecognizable (in the best possible way). I couldn't be more pleased with the results! In the future we plan to remodel the basement to make it a separate unit and we will definitely use Hammer!

Victor Alcantara and his team did a fantastic job leading a major home renovation project in Bethesda this year. Victor is extremely careful and diligent in his work and management of projects. He truly cares about the quality of his team's work and is always available to answer questions or address concerns. We found it very easy to work with Victor and were able to truly trust him. We would highly recommend Victor to anyone considering a home renovation project.

We worked with Hammer to renovate our kitchen, living room, and master bathroom. We found their work to be exceptionally detail oriented. We particularly enjoyed working with Johanna as the designer and Victor as the project manager. Johanna spent hours identifying solutions for our house, including finding an in-ceiling mini-split and an exceptional door for an atypical space. She would push back gently on any ideas that she thought wouldn't work or would cost too much beyond what we had targeted. Victor came on as our project manager midway through the project, and we particularly enjoyed working with him. He was extraordinarily detail-oriented and very good at communicating. Despite being new to Hammer and our project, it was immediately clear through his knowledge of our project's details during our first meeting that he was someone dedicated to delivering a great project and fantastic experience. He spent hours talking with us and provided detailed follow-up notes. Although the project did take a little longer than expected, there were no major hiccups, and if Hammer came to us with any small problems or changes, they also provided multiple options for solutions. If there was ever a slight mistake, they corrected it - they truly strived to deliver what was agreed to. Victor was very conciliatory and regretful when explaining why a relatively minor aspect of the project could not be delivered as desired. Hammer managed all of the details of inspections, paperwork, and contractors. They treated our house with care. For finishing work (painting, drywall repair, etc), we admired the skills of Manuel and Carlos, and found them to be exceptionally kind and highly skilled. They were personable and even shared about how they did some things. During the project development stage, Hammer worked with us to set some cost expectations where the cost of the project might increase. For example, the expense of a new electrical sub-panel was not included in the project but they told us how much it would be in case we did need to add it (fortunately we still have a single opening in our current utility box). They know it is not in anyone’s interest to have a significant cost arise during the project - especially when there is a statistically significant chance of it occurring. Elsewhere in the planning phase, they investigated behind our walls multiple times before major work commenced to refine what they needed and provide more accurate cost estimates. Overall, we really enjoyed working with Johanna and Victor and would be happy to collaborate on another project with them in the future.

We found Hammer on internet searches without prior recommendations. This is a whole house rebuilt job. Hammer's design team worked with our ideas then created a plan better than what we imagined. Hammer's production team worked solid, paid attentions to details and are responsive to all concerns we encountered. We highly recommend Hammer.

Highly recommended. I hired Hammer to renovate my cooperative apartment, including entire redo of the kitchen and bathroom (including moving some walls to create new space), revision of closet doors and spaces, refinish of all hardwood floors, install ceiling lighting/fans, and fix old electrical outlets and breaker box. It was a big job in a coop apartment requiring some serious interaction by Hammer with the Coop Board and neighbors (and also during COVID, requiring certain shut-down periods and special protections required by the building). Hammer folks were on top of it all the way; incredibly helpful in working with the Coop & neighbors; kept me updated; were extraordinarily easy to communicate with and get responses from very quickly; and generally great to work with. And I say this as one who is most often disappointed by home service providers. I'm thankful that I could be so pleasantly surprised by my experience with Hammer. And the final result was really of fine quality. Walls taken down & new ones installed; hardwood flooring added to match to existing & all refinished; all the new kitchen and bathroom elements turned out excellent. No shoddy work here. Moreover, there were several original architectural details, such as original 1920's glass-paneled doors, that Hammer refinished and maintained in great shape. And all little punch-list items were fixed perfectly by the end.

Our small "water issue" job turned into a complete back of house two story renovation. Hammer did a fantastic job, and helped us get through the project as new homeowners who had no idea what we were getting in to. We had a lot of structural and framing issues that affected a lot of the trades on the job. Between managing our plumbing updates around our existing ductwork, structural updates, complete exterior update, they kept us informed of all our options and provided ways so stay on budget. Greg was always there to answer any questions, no matter the time of day. We are very appreciative of him and his team. The team went above and beyond several times to make the final product a cohesive one (ie finishing the new floor path to match the old on their dime/time). Huge thank you to him and his team.

Like many other DC homeowners, we purchased our row home “as-is” in July of this year. We knew that we would need some work done to fix what we believed to be “minor” water damage issues. Well, long story short, it turns out the entire back of our house was falling apart from a combination of water and termite damage and we needed all new plumbing. Hammer has been a silver lining in this otherwise trying time. Greg has worked with us over the past 2+ months to stick as closely to our budget as possible even in the wake of new and expensive discoveries that have popped up during the remodel. Greg’s team is professional and respectful. They took our concerns seriously, including the one about keeping our two cats safe from the construction work. Although it is unfortunate that we needed the extent of work done that we did, we are very glad we chose Hammer to help us. Greg had to coordinate numerous different trades because of our extensive list of repairs, and we felt confident in both his ability to do so and the ability in the different contractors he worked with along the way. We look forward to working with Greg and Hammer in the future, hopefully on cosmetic rather than structural work!

I cannot recommend Hammer Contractors highly enough. The company remodeled our master bedroom in October and we are thrilled with the results! From the start, our designer listened to our needs, provided insightful feedback and ultimately created a beautiful rendering that matched the final product. Following the design phase, our project manager was in constant communication with us regarding timing and costs to ensure our project stayed on track and within our budget. When an unexpected issue arose, the project manager walked us through his findings and provided a range of options, instead of trying to force us into a costly fix. The crew members assigned to our bathroom were very professional, in addition to being skillful at what they do. We plan to remodel our kitchen this Summer and definitely plan to use Hammer!

We started out last summer wanting to remodel our kitchen--taking out a partial wall that divided our kitchen/dining room. We initially met with Greg at our home and were very pleased with the conversation we had. He is very knowledgeable about every aspect of his business and answered all our questions without hesitation. We interviewed 2 additional contractors and settled on Hammer for a few reasons. We had seen their work at the home of friends and were impressed. They had a design team that would help us with a plan. They seemed to be well-organized, with a customer website to help keep track of progress, plans, a work calendar, payments, messaging back and forth, etc. We ended up extending our project from a kitchen remodel to installing all new wood flooring on our first floor, refinishing the stairs to the bedroom level, re-carpeting that level, painting almost every room in the house, re-modeling our powder room, and installing new recessed lighting in our upstairs hallway. Throughout the 3 + months this all took, Hammer made every effort to accommodate us with scheduling (Jorge, our project manager, was great with this as well as with troubleshooting any issues that came up along the way). They helped us with moving furniture, and throughout the project, kept the "worksite" clean and neat. We found their crews and office staff to be very hard-working, polite, and friendly, giving attention to details and quick responses and solutions to any issues that came up. We had a close relationship with their designer, Andres, who was immeasurably helpful to us. He got to know us--our likes, dislikes--and our "comfort level" with new and different ideas, and he came up with great ideas which we love. We found the office staff was very quick to respond to questions and concerns and we never felt ignored or "left hanging." Overall, it was a great experience--yes, certainly we were inconvenienced at times, missed having a working kitchen for months, and tired of moving furniture around for painting/carpeting purposes. But we are SO happy that we did this--we LOVE our new kitchen. We LOVE our new hardwood flooring. We LOVE all our new appliances. We LOVE all the new paint colors and carpet, and our updated powder room. It was worth the inconvenience! And, yes--we would use them again! Summary: Great designing. Conscientious crews and staff. Warm, friendly, personable. An eye for quality and a desire to please. Recommended!!!!

HAMMER TIME !! Our project was huge and we had a million questions and concerns. From the pre-meeting on Day 1 with Greg, to design meetings with Andres, to the final walk-through with Jorge, our whole-house remodel was more than the welcome transformation we had anticipated. Hammer contractors held our hands through the entire process, welcomed us with a smile every day, and easily incorporated our ideas and thoughts into their architectural designs - as well as allowing me to get my hands dirty to help reduce cost. We were impressed with the project management and communication throughout the entire process. Hammer had more than enough expertise to do the job right... the first time.. and fixed any and every potential problem that they uncovered during demolition (the quality and longevity of any project is mostly due to what you can't see - behind the finished walls). When our project went a bit outside their comfort zone (like shellac-ing the entire first floor due to nicotine staining) Hammer contractors engaged the experts at Sherwin-William to make sure they had the right materials and procedures to get it done right. Hammer contractors just finished two projects at our home – a new deck and kitchen update project (new kitchen island, molding on existing cabinets). We couldn’t be more satisfied with our experience. Their professionalism, know-how, communication, and technology are second to none. They truly did go the extra mile in completing our projects, doing whatever they could to make sure we were completely satisfied. We recently hired Hammer to renovate our kitchen. Although we originally intended to simply replace the cabinets and appliances, Andres presented us with several different possible designs, and we ended up changing the layout of the room. Greg walked us through the process and the various options, and we realized that we could change the design without too much of a change to our budget. Everyone from Hammer was very professional and responsive throughout the process. Andres was very helpful as we made decisions about things like countertops, backsplash, and paint. Jorge, Rafael, and the rest of the team made sure all the work was done on schedule and according to the design. Even after the renovation was done, everyone at Hammer was helpful in resolving minor issues and answering questions. We would definitely hire Hammer for projects in the future.

We recently were looking to build an addition to our single family home to build an in-law suite. After multiple meetings, we decided on Hammer Contractors for this addition. Hammer Contractors were very professional and patient with our multiple questions and needs. Everyone we worked with were friendly, knowledgeable and an expert in the field. We worked with their design specialist to create the best design with the space available. The account/sales manager was very patient and provided all details and help needed on our project. The project manager communicated with us the entire time and ensured the project stayed on track as best as possible. The craftsmanship was top notch and everything was done as described in our plan. We finished the project and our in-laws have moved in and started using the space with great happiness. For our next project, we will only need to call one company, Hammer Contractors for any and all needs with our home.

We wanted to renovate our already finished basement to serve as a in-law suite. After meeting with several contractors, we went with Greg and Hammer Contractors and were extremely pleased with the results. Hammer Contractors installed a full kitchen with gas range/oven, sink, cabinetry, refrigerator hook-up, granite countertops and hardwood floors. An interior wall was also framed out to create a bedroom and the half bath was converted to a full bath by adding a shower enclosure. Throughout the entire process, the designer Andres, Greg and Jorge were a pleasure to work with. Initially, there were a couple back and forth meetings where the scope of work and materials were hashed out. Once agreed upon, the cost remained the same throughout the entire process with no hidden or discovered expenses. The timeline was followed nearly to a tee despite some challenges with the weather. At the time of the renovation, I had another contractor renovating my master bathroom. Comparing the two contractors were like night and day. Hammer's guys would show up first thing in the morning and work full days. They were always very polite and accommodating to my family as we were living through the renovation and constantly checking on the progress. Overall, the project finished on budget and on time and everyone associated with Hammer was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely work with Hammer again and have already recommended them to neighbors. From day one and throughout the entire process, I was very impressed with Hammer's professionalism and communication and am extremely pleased with the quality of the work.

We were very pleased with the whole process from start to finish. The design team Andres and Greg and the construction team Jorge and Johan were excellent. I needed a lot of hand holding to transition our kitchen/dining/living room into an open concept living space. They reinforced the roof beams and repaired years old cracks in the ceiling while taking down the walls to our kitchen. We love the new look and all the details that were added. The communication is very good and they were right on schedule even with THREE snow storms to deal with. I would recommend them highly!

At your personal website you can see the progress of the renovations, changes that needs to be done and it also allows you to promptly communicate with your designer or project manager with any concerns you may have. Greg, Andres, Jorge and his team did a terrific job updating my kitchen/family room with a beautifully designed back splash, granite counter top, bookcases, fresh paint of coat and beautifully refinished hardwood floors.

We had a bathroom and laundry room renovation, with installation of a new front door. The project was well planned, with online access to all plans and orders. Everyone we dealt with was courteous and professional. The workmanship was outstanding. The project was on time and stayed within the budget.
