1st Dibbs will be of no help if you buy from a disreputable seller on their site. I sent back a set of silverware and even though I sent many pictures of the damaged goods I received, 1st Dibs called it buyers remorse. Let’s see, they get paid by the seller…..hum. The seller finally agreed to refund the sales price minus $230 in shipping fees.
It has been well over a month and still no refund from 1st Dibs.
Beware! Do not buy from them. You can probably find the same item on a different site that might actually help you if the seller is knowingly deceptive.

A piece arrived with a big crack down the middle. It had cost me $3000. I refused to accept this piece from the shipper. 1stDibs did an investigation and told me it was my fault because the original photos had shown a line in the table even though it wasn't an actual crack and nowhere in the description was a crack indicated.

Dining table not as described. My letter to 1stdibs:
I understand you lost this dispute. I have been reimbursed the whole amount. You never took my complaints seriously, you never contacted the seller to ask if what I was communicating to you was true. You denied my request to qualify under the Buyer’s Protection plan you promise on your website. American Express performed an investigation and found that 1stdibs didn’t deliver what was promised. Why would I ever buy anything through 1stdibs ever again, paying premium prices and fees? Why would I do that, when my rights as a customer are completely disregarded? From now on, I will buy directly from sellers.

1st Dibs is not only enabling bad business practices by their sellers but is complicit in them.
Last month I ordered 2 pillows worth a total of $1115. The pillows were no longer in stock and instead of alerting me, the seller chose to send a similar set and included a note for me to reach out to them directly if I had a problem. (See pics of ordered pillows versus pillows received) Three weeks later, endless phone calls to 1st Dibs, texts/phonecalls back and forth with seller, and an unwanted trip to UPS...I am still down $116 and am initiating a credit card dispute if I'm not refunded by the end of the day. Insult to injury, after reading through the 1st Dibs customer reviews of this seller, I learned I'm not the only customer who received a similar "bait and switch."
This leads to the most egregious part: When I attempted to write a review of this seller on the 1st Dibs website, I found there was no longer a "review" button option for this buyer. I reached out to 1st Dibs and received the following response from Rachelle from customer service:
"After discussing with the relevant team, they let us know that the orders that have been returned, do not have the review option on the 1stDibs system. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, you cannot leave a review for this order."
The WORST customer service response to date.

I ordered a piece of art from a seller on 1stdibs and didn’t receive a COA. I reached out to the seller and asked why the art didn’t come with verification. After no response from the seller I requested a refund and was again not responded to, so I emailed 1stdibs. After a month of back and forth they denied my return because the seller has a 1 day return policy and put in on me to verify the authenticity of the work. A buyer should be able to buy with confidence.

NEVER, EVER BUY FROM 1STDIBS! Not only are they overpriced, but when your item turns up and it's faulty or not as described they will ignore you - and if they ever reply to you at all, refuse to refund you. They have no customer service whatsoever and it's impossible to contact them. Awful, awful website.

Buyer Beware - I've purchased an expensive painting that arrived damaged. After nearly a month, still no refund. Not even a date in which this will be taken care of. Customer service is non-existent. I'll be processing a chargeback with my bank.

Wow, is this a dreadful, disreputable organization. I ordered very expensive earrings which I was assured I would have in less than a week because I was traveling. Needless to say they did not arrive in time. When I complained and asked to cancel the sale and for them to recall the DHL, they ignored the request, sent a barely literate note that was insulting and threatening, see attachment - no grammar, no punctuation, no apology. Now I fear receiving the goods in case they are fake.
A good organization does not behave so badly nor have an avalanche of negative reviews.

I bought a custom-made dining table, listed as ebony walnut. They offered me the choice of "oak", which I selected. All materials on their website described the table choices as being made of "oak", "walnut" or other types of wood, and under "materials and techniques" the only item offered was "walnut." In discussions with the manufacturer the table surface was described as a choice of "rift oak" or "plain sliced oak". The table I was delivered was made of veneer over MDF, and simply glued together; the quality of the table was poor, and it was delivered in the wrong color. At no time was the table described as being made of veneer or MDF, as is customary to disclose about the construction of wood furniture. I've attempted to resolve this matter through 1st Dibs customer service and they offered a partial refund - the customer service agent originally wrote that they intended to provide a refund of $6,000 on a table of $14,000 -- hardly satisfactory vs. the request to simply return the table for a full refund. However, the agent then clarified that the offer of this refund itself was even in error, and that the most that 1st Dibs would provide was a refund of approximately $4,000 and that they were then done dealing with the matter. 1st Dibs took the position that because the table was not described specifically as "solid oak" that it was not misrepresented. Buyer beware -- the so-called buyer's protection offered by 1st Dibs didn't cover us.

I bought a piece of art at 1st dibs. It arrived damaged and I asked to to return it. Its been three months since the beginning of the process to return ,and 1st dibs still didn't give me the refund.

Working with our design team, we purchased a table that was delivered in March. Upon immediate inspection, the table had severe quality issues that were not highlighted In any photos or correspondence sent by the seller or on the website. This table was not in “good” condition it was in terrible condition Our design team Called immediately within immediately within your time guidelines to return it. We we told by the rep, of course, and the process would be started to do so. Then Covid hit. When 1st dibs reopened, we pursued the return again. We were told the person who assured us a returned was no longer there. We we also told we did not report a return within the proper timeframe. We were also told the table met the criteria for the condition described. All a blatant manipulation of the facts to suit the needs of 1st Dibs not the client.
We are sympathetic to the challenges businesses face in these Covid times . We offered a trade or exchange for something else on their site. All conversation was met with deaf ears with a simple $359.20 refund to make us go away. One would come to expect, especially with an online business that prides itself on being the best, to have a legitimate claim not to be dismissed in such an lowbrow manner. High end consignment shops in NYC won’t even take this table because of the condition. We aren’t the only set of eyes looking at it.
Profoundly disappointed..

Don't waste your time or money. The company only cares about making its cut off of sellers. If you're looking for customer service, go elsewhere. If you can find the product somewhere else, go elsewhere. Do not trust that you will actually get what you are buying from the seller. If you don't, 1stdibs will do everything to protect the seller, and nothing to help you. I wish I could give negative stars. They only give a seven (7) day window for you to discover any and all issues, so if you get a piece in boxes with a million parts, like I did, with no instructions, make sure you figure out how to put it together ASAP to make sure there's nothing missing. Here's what I paid for vs. what I got. Finding a replacement is virtually impossible, and neither 1stdibs nor the seller will respond to my requests to find a place (in Murano Italy) to have one made. The seller never even put it together himself, and wouldn't send me any photos of his own. Do not trust this company.
