After careers spent in Prince Edward Island, Canada, we decided to retire to the South Shore of Nova Scotia to enjoy the comparatively milder winters and live near the ocean. Having spent pre-retirement holiday weekends for almost two years looking at numerous properties in the area, we were shown the almost-perfect property by our infinitely patient real-estate agent - a winterized chalet-style cottage with cathedral ceilings nestled in the forest, with room for gardens and a view of the ocean. A major problem, however, was that it was just too small. My husband, with the help of an architect colleague, developed a plan for its expansion which required not just a carpenter, but a builder with unconventional vision and the accompanying skills to make it reality, not such an easy thing to find, we thought, in the sparsely populated area where the property was located. Our real-estate agent introduced us to Jonathan Lloy, of Lloyoll Custom Building, and we soon knew we'd found our builder. His experience with west-coast construction styles and methods made him the perfect choice, and his creativity and up-to-date knowledge of available and innovative materials enabled us to realize our vision. Jonathan was unfailingly helpful and courteous, he dealt well with any unexpected problems that arose and paid close attention to detail, and his crew was not only professional and competent, but cleaned up after themselves - a definite perk! We hired Lloyoll Custom Building to renovate and extended our summer home in Nova Scotia. Jonathan and Caralee are a dynamic team and do truly excellent work. The project was done on time and on budget. The craftsmanship and work quality was/is superb. Throughout the build they communicated regularly and sent us video updates; this was essential, as we live overseas.
