We talked to a number of professional designers and ultimately selected Cannarsa Structure and Design. Suffice to say we could not be more delighted with the results. Our project was fairly expansive as we bought an 18-year home that was in sore need of a makeover. We needed help with the exterior siding color selection, interior finishes, and furniture selection. John and his team got quickly to work and provided some through provoking design ideas. Their collective vision came to life as the project unfolded. Interestingly, our finish carpenter was so enamored with the panelized walls in the great room that he added that to his website to showcase his work. As friends and family have visited our home, they are stunned with the vast change. Gone is the dingy carpeting and outdated ceramic tile along with the red walls. What they are welcomed with is an inviting space that features hardwood floors, neutral colors that open up the great room and kitchen. The design ideas in our home office and bathroom is equally impressive.

I contacted John to begin planning our major remodel/addition project. He was very quick to respond to all email and set up initial consultation even though he is very busy. His ideas were very creative and he was able to help me organize my thoughts. I am looking forward to working with him to help me along the way for design decisions. We recently purchased a small cottage with tons of character, but in need of a lot of work. We reached out to John as the first step in our renovation process. After reviewing John's portfolio and work, we felt he could help guide us in our initial plans for the property. This was one of the best decisions we have made. John's ideas were both true to the house that was built in 1940, and well suited for the family living in it for years to come. We also really enjoy hosting friends and family, and following John's suggestions will certainly better our chances of convincing guests to stay for one more. I was also impressed with his proposed solution to our pantry issue. We have a side entry we neither want nor need, and he thought we could eliminate the door and turn the space into a (super) pantry. Very talented. Very professional. Very fun. Hiring Cannarsa Structure and Design was without a doubt the smartest decision I made for my whole-house renovation. John and Randi have very patiently walked me through planning the entire process and selecting everything from cabinets to tile to wall switches. They very quickly understood my style better than I did! We are about to start the build phase with a great builder John recommended, and I feel confident knowing that the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, walls etc will all be coordinated and will be correctly specified to the builder, and that everything has been thought through by people with real experience and design sense, limiting the surprises. I bought an old cottage and completely gutted the inside. I quickly realized when trying to come up with a new floor plan that I was in over my head. After a frustrating few weeks of trying to design a plan on my own, I finally made a call to John asking for his help and advice. John, Brynn and Barbara did a site visit with me and we walked through the home to discuss what I wanted out of the new layout for both function and flow. While on site they gave me a lot of great ideas for both inside and outside my home – including ways to maximize my space. After the meeting concluded they worked quickly and sent me a new design that really blew me away. They had added a powder room and additional bedroom to the space (which I had never thought of). I've had the pleasure of know and working with John for more than a decade. John served our board of directors at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts during formative years (we converted an old pie factory into a multi-disciplinary art center). During his tenure as Building Committee chair he helped spearhead our theatre renovation (401 seats), creation of our gallery space, several evolutions of our lobby space (furniture, paint, lighting), oversaw donations of furniture for our classroom and performance studio spaces, and selected various floor coverings which we're still happily using 10 years later. They will provide 3 samples or options and this is often enough to determine exactly the right product; that is the advantage of hiring the professionals. We love the carpet Barbara helped us select. They also are very responsive and try to respond promptly. Project info is timely and billing seems reasonable and is done online. On line payment would be helpful in the future.

John and his team provided just what we needed to set us on the right track to customizing our new summer home. His excellent suggestions solved for our immediate concerns and gave us a vision for further customization down the road. John and his team have worked on two projects for us. He did the interior of our restored 1969 Chris-Craft cabin cruiser to perfection- true to the era with great fabrics and flooring. The second project was a complete and total renovation of a condo in downtown Saugatuck on the lake. John’s creativity and design around function are fantastic. We couldn’t be happier with the results and recommendations. John has stayed close to the project throughout navigating vendors and product choices with us. With Cannarsa Structure and Design, the professionalism and knowledge are of highest quality and this complicated project finished right on time.

We will start by saying that hiring Cannarsa Structure and Design was one of the smartest investments we have ever made. John, along with interior design staffer Randi Rotzell, was instrumental in guiding us smoothly through the exterior and interior design of our new home. Perhaps one of the most stressful times in one’s life, they made this process so seamless and logical. John’s initial approach was to get to know and understand our unique design style preference. Once discovered, they kept us focused on only that which met that criteria. This prevented us from straying into other design options and served to keep our eye on the decisions at hand. He also used a great online project development software tool of which we were able to refer and provide input. John and Randi suggested product showrooms and on-line sites to get our creative juices flowing, and sometimes met us on site; however, that often made our eyes glaze over! The “real shopping” occurred in Cannarsa Structure and Design Studio where we would often meet and confer on the Rule of Three. Three choices of you name it ...siding, windows, lighting, flooring, furniture, hardware...and always carefully prepared selections that narrowed our eyes and minds toward easy decisions. Not once did we send them back to the drawing board. Not once! From there they put together storyboards so we could see the progress and select the next item up. In the end, we can honestly say that we live in a beautiful space that would not have happened without our builder JPD and Cannarsa Structure and Design. And, with so much less stress than it could have been. How does one put a price on that? We are so happy in our new home!

As we approached the renovation of our home, we had some ideas but we really didn't know where to start (or end!). The initial consultation with John was so valuable to us. He helped us focus in on all the high impact improvements, and we came out of that session with a complete vision for what we wanted to do. We also really appreciate the flexibility to consult with John on an hourly basis as needed following the initial session. We've worked with him several times to review direction, details and finishes as we've progressed through the renovation. We can't say enough about the value he's brought to our project.

Worked with John as the designer on our home build in 2012 and then again when we finished our basement a couple of years later. He did an outstanding job. From start to finish he is very organized and has great ideas. He is wonderful at troubleshooting difficult situations. I think his services were well worth the money, and I can point out several instances where he actually saved us money by suggesting smart alternatives or where his organization and planning prevented expensive change orders later. We built a pool house last year and I thought it would be a simple project and we could do it without him. I was kicking myself throughout the entire process for not brining him in on the project from the start. We get compliments all the time on our design/decor and I've had several of our friends say our house is "The nicest house they've ever been in". We've referred several people to him and we will continue to do so. He's been the most valuable resource we've developed in the area for our building and design services.
