Mike (Abbaté Designs) has been more than we ever could have hoped for! Having spent the last six years designing and building a house and shop on our rural acreage, we were at a loss as to what we could/should do with the cleared areas around our structures. It was particularly important for us to maintain our view while establishing privacy from the road and continuity between our structures (at varied elevations on a hillside). Mike clearly understood the challenges of our site and listened thoughtfully to our aspirations. The collaboration was fun, engaging, and easy. The final landscape plan AMAZING. We can't wait to get it in the ground!

Mike was wonderful to work with and delivered an excellent result. Mike was recommended to us by our architect for our new home and we couldn't be more pleased. He took the time to meet with us in person at our old home and then walked our new property with us to get a feel for the land. Mike with Abbate designs was an amazing professional to work with. We have a large property and needed help with how to make such a large area feel like home within a larger farm property. Mike provided a clear action plan that understood our desires and needs and aspects we would have not thought of. He measured, reviewed, asked questions to understand our needs, provided and reviewed sample photos. We had regular check in meetings to discuss planning in process and hash out details along the way. The communication was stellar. We have a plan that addressed sunrise, sunset, dogs, chickens, views, areas that needed privacy screening, plant maps and a guide on which plants/trees work in the plan.

Most custom builds bring the landscape architect and landscaper in at the very last few months of project completion. For those of us that have more affinity to outdoor spaces, I crucially invite you to engage someone like Mike 4-6 months before estimated project completion. When talking to Mike, I appreciate his skillfulness with active and reflective listening. The importance of bringing this up is that Mike will masterfully create the landscape that you envision. He asks the right questions and purposefully affirms what you say. He takes careful measured (ha!) steps to keep the project in motion while guiding you to meaningful decisions. His thoroughness and intentionality with our home created a sense of relief from decision fatigue; we gave him our complete trust. Working with Mike created another unexpected and very appreciated relationship with a local stone artisan, Peter Andrusko. Mike partnered with Pete for a last minute addition to our landscape. The result was commissioning the most beautiful piece of original artwork we have ever owned – a basalt stone fountain that balances sound, movement and tranquility to the entrance of our home.

It is not always easy or simple to convert ideas and concepts to actual drawings and plans. Mike Abbaté and team not only met our expectations, but were pleasant and easy to work with. Mike worked with our ideas, made comprehensive and clear suggestions and together we developed a plan that we are very pleased with and excited about implementing. He was able to communicate his thoughts clearly and timely. Although we rescheduled a few meetings on him, he was always prepared and thorough with a professional presentation each time we met! We hired Mike Abbaté to create landscape plans for our front and back yards. He was a pleasure to work with, and kept the project moving along quickly. Upon meeting with him, we found his positive and pleasant manner, easy to work with. He is punctual and provides timely designer worksheets. He’s a good listener and offers a variety of creative possible plant choices and hard scrapes to fit the chosen theme. Mike is a talented architect and creates timely feedback as you work with him. Mike came into my life when I moved into a house with a dismal, awkward yard. It looked pretty hopeless to me, but Mike's encouraging response was "It has lots of potential". Working with Mike as he developed that potential has been a pleasure. He was always positive, understanding and flexible. He shared his ideas and listened to mine. He adapted my ideas into the plan when they worked and was diplomatic when they didn't. His design is so much more than just a beautiful garden, it is a whole outdoor environment. He combined his knowledge, experience and creativity and came up with innovative ways to turn liabilities into assets. He is clearly passionate about what he does, the plants he works with and creating spaces that will nurture the people using them. Mike was truly amazing! He was thoughtful and did the perfect job of balancing our ideas with his experience which is why you hire a professional, right?!?! He designed a plan for our back and front yard and helped us plan out when things should happen, estimate a budget, and give us advice about how to change the cost as needed. He also created AMAZING graphics to show us how things would look when it is done.

Mike with Abbaté Designs did a phenomenal job designing our outdoor space. He both heard our desires and addressed the needs of unique elevations with an effective and delicate design that maximized the existing architecture and made the space usable and beautiful. We wanted a simple, modern design that complemented our mid-century modern ranch house, and gave us an entertaining and play area, and Mike delivered.
