We are so pleased that we had Nicola's Garden Art work on our backyard to create our dream oasis! The crew worked so hard and we were very impressed with them not only for there hard work but also for cleaning up after themselves and left our place spotless. Nicola's design plan captured what we wanted and she suggested some features that we never even thought of but are so glad we included. Some of the features of our new backyard include a hanging mirror, a bubbling urn and beautiful outdoor lighting that turns in automatically at dusk and off at dawn.

Nicola’s Garden Art Inc. was recommended to us by friends who are very avid gardeners. We are definitely not experienced in horticulture or landscape design. Our front gardens had been planted almost 40 years ago. They were overgrown, unbalanced and unattractive after decades of “piecemeal” planting and unskilled maintenance. Nicola met with us on several occasions to determine our landscaping wishes, interests and skills. Our input was respected, plans modified, and our questions answered. She provided us with an extremely detailed design for the landscaping at the front of our house, drawn to scale and identifying every plant to be used. A coloured picture and growth characteristics of each plant were included as well as a timeline for completing the project. We were tremendously impressed by the team who came with the plans in hand, to do the work. They were polite, friendly, informative and very hard working. On days one and two, decades of overgrown groundcover, plants, shrubs, buried decorative stones, etc. were removed, the grade established, curbs and gutters installed and the site prepared for planting. On days two and three, new trees, bushes and flowers were planted, sod laid, and mulch applied. At the end of each day the yard, driveway and sidewalks were thoroughly cleaned. What a transformation! Throughout this major project, Nicola and Jeremy were readily available for advice and answers. Nicola’s Garden Art is an appropriate name for this company. The result at our home has the balance, colours, textures, focal points, varieties of plantings and transitions one expects in an artistic work. It is beyond “landscaping”.

The New Brighton Housing Coop is a 7-unit heritage building that was erected in 1929 and established as a coop in 1980. It's a beautiful building and the current residents take the responsibility of caring for this special property very seriously. 473 Baker street (formerly known as the Hyatt Building) is such an important piece of Wortley Village's architecture and history, making Nicola's Garden Art the only logical choice to ensure our wonderful home remains a shining jewel of the neighborhood. After years of steady decline and disrepair under previous management, we've put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the rehabilitation and beautification of the property, eventually restoring it to its previous glory. We would like to think that since it was first completed, it has never looked as good as it does today. This is in no small part due to the excellent work and care that Nicola and her team continue to provide us year after year.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Nicola and her team on our last two properties. In both cases, Nicola provided a design and her team installed the designs. We sought out Nicola because we wanted our spaces (backyard, front yard, patio) designed by a professional. Not only did we want to create something aesthetically pleasing, but we also wanted to ensure appropriate plants were chosen for the climate/light/soil, something we would not feel confident doing ourselves. Nicola and her team were professional from start to finish. They designed gorgeous, yet simple flowerbeds and a strong, beautiful landing to support our existing front steps. While installing it, Dan and the crew were hard working, respectful and kept the area clean after each day’s work.

Nicola and her friendly, courteous and hard working team implemented a beautiful formal front garden for our home this summer. This included a full design plan for new walkways/patio areas, circular courtyard garden of roses and lavender surrounding a fountain, generous beds all across the front of the house, an allée of stewartia trees, semicircular beds around our driveway entrance pillars plus accent trees. All the major garden beds are carefully and pristinely edged with stone to keep the garden beds so much easier to maintain in future. Everything is very elegant looking and exactly fits the look and feel of what we we hoping to achieve on our property! It was really great to be able to provide my thoughts on which plants/shrubs/trees to include, this has really helped to personalize the garden to my tastes. Everyone is amazed at the difference the gardens have made to our home, we are getting much positive attention from friends, family and our neighbours. Very soon the lighting will be finished, then we can enjoy the gardens at the end of the day as well! Flowering bulbs will also soon be added so we can look forward to that color next spring. Nicola produced beautiful designs for a complete overhaul of both my front and back gardens. After removing the existing plants, shrubs, and an old deck, her team re-graded the entire yard, laid a natural stone patio, installed a pond and waterfall, built a shed, hot-tub pad and new stairs. They then installed a new lawn and a variety of plants, shrubs and trees. The finished transformation is wonderful and it has exceeded my expectations. Last fall we hired Nicolas Garden Art to design and install gardens in the front and backyard of our home. A small retaining wall was constructed to support an existing flower bed. It was agreed that downspout water would exit out the side of the wall. The plan was changed without our knowledge and instead the water was discharged underground with no access to clean out leaves, debris etc... They then agreed to correct it to match our initial plan. We asked them to use hard pipe instead of Big O and call us before they came. They did neither. Portions of the garden bed had as little as 1” of planting soil with rock/sand backfill underneath. Some of our plants were planted in this. We mentioned this and emailed pictures, but there was no effort to replace the backfill with proper three-way planting soil. We were surprised that the backyard design had two arbour posts sitting 6” onto our neighbour's driveway, and the drawing was incorrect with an extra 13 feet of depth. We emailed on October 30th asking if they could modify this plan because it wouldn’t work within the actual smaller space. They said they were busy but would take another look at the design and get back to us; We have not heard from them since. In the end, lots of extra work for us. ...not at all what we had anticipated

Nicola listened to our desires and ideas and soon presented us with a professional drawing of our "new front garden". Her crew were very knowledgeable about the plant material and could answer all our questions. The garden is beautiful and very eye-catching. So we have already enlisted Nicola's help in designing our "new back garden". Really looking forward to a great experience for next summer 2020!

5 years ago Nicola and her crew completely transformed my front and back garden. After I had massive drainage work front and back, they converted a wasteland into a showplace so that people stopped by, complimenting it, asking questions about various aspects, even asking to see more of the backyard! In the initial consultation with Nicola she patiently helped me sort out my ideas, likes and dislikes, before moving to detailed planning/ designing of both areas with altered pathways, patio and complete fence replacement. All of this work, carpentry - the fence, design and execution, the stonework - the patio & path... she and her crew handled expertly and in a timely fashion - no dropping the work to attend to another project! Throughout I found her very responsive not only to my new ideas but also to my budgeting concerns, always ready to seek less expensive alternatives. The ongoing maintenance I’ve gladly turned over to Nicola’s Garden Art and later when another drainage issue cropped up, they were able to come up with - and carry out - a French drain solution which has worked. I highly recommend their expertise.

We hired Nicola and her crew to design our backyard, which had been allowed to run wild for a long time, starting 3 years ago. She created several oasis for different purposes, with classic lines that complemented the house design and blended with each other in a harmonious way. She worked with us to build and plant these areas as our budget allowed, since we couldn't do everything all at once, and now everything is interconnected creating a beautiful flow where things pop up as the seasons progress, giving us an uninterrupted show of colour and perfume, two of our main requests. And the flowers and bulbs are balanced with shrubs and trees giving structure to the whole. Nicola could offer alternatives to some trees and materials we couldn't afford, while still giving our garden an elegant and artistic design. Over the last 3 years her crew has also provided great care and maintenance, and we continue to expand different areas around the garden with Nicola's invaluable expertise. Her crew can work with stone, wood, bricks and many other materials with equal proficiency and the quality of their work is excellent. They even rejuvenated our pond after years of neglect. We have been extremely happy with our continued relationship, and will no doubt employ Nicola and her crew for many years to come.

Nicola redesigned our tired front yard into a beautiful easy care garden! We enjoy sitting on our front porch looking at the flowers and watching the birds. She listened to our concerns and collaborated with our desires and worked within our budget during the planning stage. Her team were friendly and neat, making sure things were left tidy when they finished working for the day. When we had concerns about 3 of the plants not surviving due to extreme sun, she came up with another solution and the plants were replaced without additional expense. Nicola was very professional and knowledgeable. She spent a significant amount of time explaining her ideas to us and we never felt rushed. Her final design was beautiful. It certainly met our expectations and Nicola was available for any questions and changes that we wanted to make. The final project looks great so far and the stonework is beautiful.

We presented Nicola with a very large yard which had become a construction zone with the installation of a 50 foot lap pool. Nicola listened to our views on maintenance, the types of trees, plants and shrubs we like and created a landscape and garden design which is both functional and pleasing to the eye. She was able to envision a beautiful garden and yard in a space where we saw only construction debris around a new pool. Nicola made excellent use of colour and texture to create spaces in the yard that have depth and movement. Nicola worked with us and was flexible about modifying her design to meet our needs. She saw immediately that our existing patio was too small and it did nothing to enhance the yard and new pool. She designed a stone patio which is much larger, is attractive, practical and well constructed. Nicola's crew is professional and work was completed in a timely manner. It was a pleasure to have her crew work in our yard for 5 to 6 weeks. They were knowledgeable and friendly. Nicola communicated well with us throughout the process. We would have no reservations about recommending Nicola's Garden Art to anyone looking for landscape design and installation.

The backyard renovation was beautifully designed and transformed by Nicola's Garden Art Inc. in the fall of 2016. Nicola created a full color design and provided detailed quotes prior to the project's commencement. Once all the plans were approved her crew quickly transformed our backyard. It was completely renovated, including new fencing, into a fully functional and artistic wonder. Words cannot describe the quality of work and attention to detail that went into the project. There are several round stone areas designated for eating, reading and socializing as well as a kid friendly zone where our children can play. Both living and stone materials were used to create a safe and happy environment. We were very satisfied with the work, costing and overall outcome.

Clear quotation, was on time, very neat and excellent workmanship. Very good ideas on how to really showcase the property. There were some places they should have dug deeper to remove weeds that are now coming back.

From our initial meeting with Nicola to the final lighting tweaks, we were consistently impressed with the level of professionalism and personal attention we experienced. Nicola took into account our own plant and design preferences and combined it with her expertise and experience to create a cohesive garden plan that will flourish on the site. Jeremy and his team did the excavation and installation of the plants, trees, sod, bulbs, lighting, and stonework. They were very professional and tidy and clearly loved what they do. The finished in about 5 days. Any small hiccups they experienced along the way, they dealt with immediately and properly. They also came back to alter the lighting once we saw it at night and wanted a change. Even in its infancy, the garden is beautiful! I can't wait to see how it matures over the next few years.

Absolutely excellent team and business. Nicola's design was impeccably created, took all of my vague and specific ideas and wishes and created a sanctuary for me that is absolutely gorgeous. A pond was created by Jeremy from just a picture into the most beautiful oasis focal point. Everyone in the team was professional, approachable and super knowledgeable. Nicola created a beautiful space for our family. She was great about working with us, with our budget, and our needs (and patient when we changed our mind about things). Our yard has been transformed - we spend a lot more time there now and we couldn't be more pleased.

Backyard garden transformation both visual and functional (major water drainage concerns) Nicola provided a birds eye drawing with all the necessary info pertaining to each plant. Special attention was given to our preference colours, neighbour's yard(s) and other species of surrounding trees (black walnut). Our biggest concern was drainage issues resulting from previous owners shoddy attempts at DIY surface water overflow. Nicola's team worked out a solution and we've yet to experience ANY water penetrarion into the house. The crew was in and out in 3 days and will return in the spring to confirm proper growth and review.
