I recently hired Alfan Design for our backyard project, and the result was simply outstanding. Rafat provided a very hands-on design approach for our front yard - hardscape, stone wall, plants and trees. He listened well to what we wanted to accomplish and put together a beautiful plan that we executed with a contractor Rafat recommended. They worked well together throughout the install and Rafat even came by for many check ins to confirm everything went according to plan. His plant and tree selection were just what we wanted. We've received lots of neighbors asking who designed our yard after it was completed this May and have already referred Rafat out to several people.

I've had the honor of having Rafat working on our home landscaping project from start to finish for over a year, first as a designer and later as a project manager. I can say with confidence that having him on board is the best choice I've made for my project. I'd highly recommend him to anyone who cares about the quality of the design and results. With the review length limit, I'm only able to cherry-pick a few things that we really liked about working with him: 1. Expert-level planting design: It takes so much artistry and science in order to design the planting right, so I took a hands-off approach to let Rafat work his magic. And he has delivered us a highly sophisticated planting design customized to our needs and site condition. Several hundreds of plants are individually specified and marked. The coloring, texture, grouping, and layering are intricately woven as if it is embroidery. And thanks to his knowledge on the new advancements in horticulture, we were able to choose a new species of engineered ground cover for our lawn that looks uniquely lovely while requiring vastly less water and maintenance than traditional turf. It's only been a few months since the planting was done but the colors of our garden have already gone through several orchestrated transitions. We are pleasantly surprised and can't wait to see what's yet to come. 2. Versatile with styles: When it comes to garden structures and hardscape, my husband and I had polarizing preferences between organic Tuscany style and geometric modern looks. Rafat was able to deliver an excellent eclectic design that satisfied both of us. I also prize uniqueness above all else so I was not making Rafat's life easy when I threw my outlandish requirements at him. Yet he successfully kneaded my requirements into his design of the fountain and arbor. In the end we have something that's one of a kind yet blended into the existing architecture of our home very well that it looks as if it came with the house. It puts a smile on my face every time neighbors and passersby offer complements. I appreciate Rafat being an open-minded designer who's willing to push the envelope and create something new. This sure sets him apart from the crowd. 3. Pleasant to work with: An ugly garden can be fixed later while an ugly experience will sit in your memory forever. So for me, the experience during the project is as important as the end result. I enjoyed working with Rafat because he strikes a good balance between respecting client's input and maintaining the design integrity as a professional. Oftentimes, experienced professionals came with arrogance and the "my way or the highway" attitude. But I'm glad that Rafat, albeit experienced, was not like that. We were able to raise our concerns and discuss without being shot down. Yet, when it comes to things that matter, he was able to stand the ground and offer us candid advice: "That will look wrong.", which turns out to be true in hindsight.

We had a wonderful time working with Rafat from design through project management. He is highly collaborative, easy to communicate with, and came up with — and then helped execute — a design for a full-property relandscaping project, with incredible results. Highly recommend!

We have a large front yard that was going to require a fair bit of time and skill to properly design. Rafat Fadel was the right man for the job! He was highly recommended by our long-time landscaper, and after meeting with Rafat it was clear he was a good fit for our project. Rafat was easy to work with and had a well thought-through plan to break down the project into bite-size parts so the design process would go smoothly. At each stage, he offered many options well tailored to meet our goals for the project. Rafat stayed on time and on budget and worked hard to make sure the the hardscape would be creative and functional. Rafat also spent a good deal of time ensuring that the plantings would be beautiful and varied so that the yard will look its best in each season. After the design was finished, when questions came up during the building portion of the project, Rafat was very quick to respond by telephone or email. Emails were usually responded to within an hour. Overall, we are very happy with the experience we had with Rafat. Our yard now looks fantastic and we have received wonderful comments from our neighbors about the final look of the yard.

Rafat is an architecture designer with amazing talent, patience, creativity , innovative in material selection, great knowledge on the plants and ability to manage challenges with great attention to the detail.
