Thank you, Rebecca, for that quick answer. I'll go for 48". I'm making a crocodile stitch that looks like dragon scales/or petals depending on your point of view.

I've never seen that stitch,it's really pretty.

The 10 year old will want to wind that scarf as the big girls do....I think 48 inches is way too short....

: ) my general rule of thumb for long scarves is as tall as the person I'm making them for, maybe an extra 6" if it's a 'necklace' style scarf.

the exception to this is one of my art teachers, who's about 4'10", but likes scarves that fall to her knees : D

Thank you so much for your comments. I wanted this to be surprise even to their Mom, but when you reminded me that little girls really want to be like big girls it all clicked in...of course they do! So I asked their Mom who says that the 7 year old has a 60" scarf that she loves.

Hi, I am a 10-year-old making them for my family. I make mine how tall the person I am making it for is. For example, I am 5 feet so I make it 5 feet. Some people prefer half of there hight. So for any person ask if they want it to be really big or regular. If big then do there hight if regular do half of there height

How about for a 4 year

If for adults you knit scarves at 65 inches, then for children I think this is something about 45-50 inches, no less. It is clear that scarves should be warm, but their main task is to cover as much of the desired area as possible, for example, neck or face. Each type of clothing has its own function, for example Drawstring bags bulk, designed to carry shoes and other small things in it, and most importantly, they do not get wet and do not deteriorate in bad weather. Plus, scarves can be made large without fear, as they will simply hang down a little more, but it will be just as cozy and beautiful.
