I really don't know what i can do to this room .Can i make it look better with your help? ...
Comments (36)Really like all the natural light and that you have sheers. Your room has great potential. If you have a fixed panel with your patio door unit, consider adding a living plant (or maybe not with a toddler). Your drapes are hanging a bit oddly. If you keep these drapes, see if you can reset the hooks or get a different kind of hook so the tops of the drapes are more uniform. You have enough natural light to consider hooking the tops of the pairs of drapes together and investing in some tie backs for style. the fabric need not match the drapes -- just coordinate with your color of choice. The color of the drapes seems intended to coordinate with the wide tan armless seat. In the second pic, the corner looks cluttered. Unless those are toys needed in the room, see what in that pile you might move/store out of sight. Does your ottoman have storage -- that's always a plus, especially if the top is reversible with a solid firm side for using it as a coffee table as needed. Avoid adding clutter disguised as art. Art should represent your interest and be something you value and treasure -- not just something to fill the space on a wall or a place on a shelf. With a toddler, you really don't want to crowd the room with any more furniture than you need. Try moving what you have around a bit before investing in more pieces. Try centering the rug in the room away from all three walls and/or at least putting the sectional farther onto the rug -- the is to move the sectional a bit away from the windows. Alternately, split the difference: move the rug a bit farther toward the upper right corner and the sectional all the way onto the rug. A coffee table doesn't always "work" with a sectional -- which way do you turn it is the problem. It appears you have two armless/backless pieces to your sectional. Consider embracing using one as an ottoman and the other (smooth top) either as another ottoman or as seat separate from the sectional, perhaps with a light in between and a matching one on the other end of the sectional: either a narrow end table with a tall lamp (thin lamp post) or, alternately, a floor lamp with shelf/table top built in. Some are modern metal units: http://10g7st2kmllr2l0zfg141olfkl4.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/fl6314ab_bm-Murray-Feiss-TableFloor-Lamp-in-Antique-Brass.jpg http://www.retrosonik.com/lamp/floor-lamp-with-table-in-your-living-room/attachment/brushed-nickel-floor-lamp-with-table/ Some are modern with wood: http://st.hzcdn.com/fimgs/a101ff0e05f87f53_1886-w233-h233-b1-p10--floor-lamps.jpg Some are more traditional and wood: https://res.cloudinary.com/fivemiles/image/upload/w_400,f_auto/v1441927732/ohtyqce3oriohhvpi7td.jpg http://www.lampsplus.com/products/marville-mission-style-swing-arm-floor-lamp-with-end-table__2t841.html http://www.mystic-wicker.com/images/389_end_table_floor_lamp_4630_oct12_71_61.jpg Some are more sturdy than others so shop around. I've been unable to find the one I saw last week that was a really heavy wooden pedestal table with a lamp post through the pedestal. Since you have a small child in the home, I'm surprised the shelf below the tv has breakables in it rather than toys and/or your small "hope" pillows for the little one to claim while lying on the floor to watch tv. On my screen, your wall color seems to be an off white w/yellow hue and white ceiling. If you might have wanted a less neutral color but need to accept what you have for now, consider an alternative for adding color. You can get rolls of narrow trim tape (about three or four inches wide) intended for the top of wall paper that can be added horizontally to the top of the wall above your drapes and all around the top of the wall in this room. While some designs are just geometric prints or strips, others have images that might reflect an interest or hobby. One of my neighbors chose a hunting and woods theme while another chose a beach -- using the strips on painted walls rather than walls with wall paper....See MoreI don't know what to do with my ceiling? Comments (6)I agree with other posters that you have a lot going on in this room. You might installing a wooden plank ceiling and staining it white so that some of the wood grain would show through. Such a ceiling will go with other furnishings when/if you decide to make a change. You still can have crown molding and other traditional types of white trim....See MoreI don't know where to start for what styles I like and what I don't like. Help!
Comments (3)First, go to Houzz photos and pick a style and save the pictures you like to an idea book with that style name. Then repeat for rest of the styles listed. Try not to get swayed by the architectural features pictured that you will not have in your space. Try to avoid trends and fads. You will probably take years to collect the items that will round out your style and the trend will be long gone by then. Next - Which ideabook has the most photos? Does that style fit your lifestyle? (Are you city, suburb, country - formal or informal?). Will you still like the style years from now? Next, pick one of your rooms and determine what will be the focal piece of the room. This should be something lasting - usually artwork, or a piece of furniture or good size accessory of wood, metal or glass. (In my case it was a 1920's or 1930's buffet.) Buy the best quality you can afford for this piece. (I bought my used buffet in 1975 for $250 and still love it.) Next, the hard part! We all like various styles, but unless you have the style talent to blend diverse styles into a charming eclectic look, you must have little talks with yourself! ("Love that baronial table and chairs, but it is NOT for my room / style.") If you veer off style, do it with inexpensive pieces. If you must have more than one style, have one for your bedroom, rest the other style. Now, the experts can correct me, as needed, and provide their advice! As a beginner, everything for your home is part of some style. Even your coasters can contribute or break the mood. As you become comfortable with and can recognize your style, you will occasionally be able to wander off track a bit. Also, as the years go by, your style can evolve - I started with 1950's Colonial, moved to 1970's traditional, 1980's country, and morphed into Old World European mixed with my original 1920's and earlier pieces. You can keep it all fresh by changing color schemes now and then. It is cheaper to paint the walls and buy throw pillows, than to replace primary wood, metal or glass pieces. Some original pieces get relegated to a bedroom or basement. The ones that surely will show wear are those that are upholstered, carpeting, rugs, drapes, bedding. Hope this helps!...See MoreHELP!!! Comments (25)I guess it would help to know the colors of the rug. They are brown, red (burgundy/burnt orange?) a green tan and a taupe color (maybe a grayish color?). Here are some pics. There is no blue in the rug. And that door has to be replaced. I love the color too but we just need a door so it will go eventually. Was thinking the new door could be red though. Also, is an accent wall still ok in decorating? I wasn't sure......See Moreeilatan
