we were able to get rid of a banquette in the house we bought as the owner had saved tile... i'd keep 2 whole boxes and a part, and the grout as well. 5 boxes is enough for ReStore to do something useful with.

We used our leftover floor tile to tile the top of an outdoor bar. Love it. Not that you asked how to use leftover tile, but you said something about leftover tile, so I shared my story. :)

You want to withhold enough to repair 10-15 tiles over 25 years of use...AND you want to be able to install tile should you ever change the foot print of the kitchen or move a wall. If you can add up the area where the cabinets sit (I'm assuming this is a kitchen or bath) you will need to withhold this square footage as well. That can be 2 boxes or more (depending on how many square feet come in a box).

Remember you need to have repairs for the next 25 years and a possible renovation where "filler" tiles are needed should a wall move or the cabinet foot prints change.
