Invasive habit typical. If you are sure you would like beds full of mint then there is little reason not to let it take over. Except where it might start to spread onto neighboring property. Or elbow out smaller plants you wanted to keep.

They really don't share space well with others. There are groundcovers that won't overtake all the neighbors, but mint isn't one of them.

Okay it was a dumb idea. Would walkers low nepeta be a smarter choice?

Glad you changed your mind! I had a neighbor plant mint, it migrated into my perimeter shrubs and lawn. WHAT A PAIN in the A-- that was to remove! Took three years to eridicate.

Phew, that was a close call! Put mint in a container, where it belongs. You might want to check out the groundcover sub-forum for some good suggestions.

It is very invasive. If you have a contained area you want ground cover, go for it!

Nope, don't do it. If you want mint for cooking or tea, grow it in pots. Try one of the groundcover-type geraniums - "Biokovo" is terrific, but there are others. Or, try fragaria (woodland strawberry); bonus with fragaria is the edible berries!

Minority opinion: I have mint in a large bed where I also have blueberries, rosemary, and a couple of small citrus trees. The mint spreads but does not interfere with any of these plants, and it keeps down the unwanted weeds. I have the bed bordered by 4"x4"'s. There are one or two small spots where the mint likes to "escape" the bed but it is easy to pull. Bonus: the mint smells great when you step on it. I'm in zone 9.

Native groundcover: maybe Virginia creeper? Though I find that more invasive than mint.
