Searching for Fireplace DIYs

Hello! This fireplace was purchased by previous owners and is really not in style with the rest of the house. We are moving toward a more transitional/modern look. I would really love to replace this entire fireplace, but budget permits that right now. Any economical ways that you would suggest Helping this fit in in the meantime? And, do you know if there’s a resale market for a surround like this?

Would help to see the rest of the room. This FP is classic IMO and I think it could work with any style of furniture.

Thanks for responding! I would normally agree with you, but the room is in transition right now. I would hate for opinions to be formed based on what we have here now because it’s nothing like what we want. I’ll give you a peek, though!

You might be able to sell the surround if you remove it carefully. An antique shop or architectural salvage company might be interested.

If you want a more contemporary or modern look, tile is often used, but not sure its’ a diy job unless you have some experience.

You mentioned that the former owners "bought" this fireplace.....is it movable or does the fireplace have a chimney that goes up through the roof? Is it a gas fireplace? If they "bought" it, it sounds like it could be removed easily.
