Hi Sugarpurl, My suggestion would be that you pick a nice tile for your backsplash and not use the leftover quartz..Keep it consistant..The areas that i would tile would be the wall where your cooktop is located making sure you create the backsplash right up to the range hood including the usual 18" under your cabinets..You can create something under your range hood with different tile applications that would co-ordinate with the rest of your backsplash.. I would only apply backsplash under the window and ending at the edge of your window casing..Keep the rest of the area around your window for a nice paint colour and window treatment..The wall that your peninsula is attached looks like it continues into a dining area..Would be hard to break off your backsplash application in that area..

I think I would keep the backsplash even in height and end at the corner. I like the idea of an interesting shelf. When you consider how often you will be standing at the sink, treat yourself by having something nice to look at- perhaps a collection of favourite objects, memorable photos, or make a "faux window" using an old wooden window and a background scene. If you paint the cabinets white, the white appliances will blend in and not be a problem as long as they are clean and functional. I would take down the mirror and art and run a simple backsplash across the entire back. A top trim piece on the backsplash on the open area with no cabinets will help a lot. Backsplash serves a function. they keep splatters from the countertop or cooktop from staining the wall and they add an important design element. Your kitchen will look less dated if you paint the older style oak cabinets...and add some attractive pulls and knobs. You will get a higher price for your home if these simple updates are made. And the light fixture over the sink needs to be changed. I know that you are on a budget, all of these things can be done for a very reasonable cost that you will get back when you sell. I have been a realtor for 38 years, and kitchens, baths and closets are what sell homes. You might want to look at other homes in your neighborhood on your local MLS/ Realtor service to see what other homes in your area have done to their homes. Buyers usually want to do as little as possible when moving into a new home. Your floor can be covered with a runner.... if it is in good condition, leave it alone. Buyers will be able to see that it is a peel and stick tile and they can easily replace it. Try to find a very simple and neutral granite or quartz for the countertop and paint the walls a pretty light neutral color. The gold paint is a NO. On to the next section. Should I bring the tile out to the edge of the right cabinet, or stop where the edge of the bar starts? if I go to the edge of the cabinet I'm thinking it may be hard to cut the tile around it to fit well.
