kitchen and living room help

Hi we want to do stone for a backsplash in the kitchen but out cabinets dont go all the way to the top should we move the cabinets, paint the wall above the cabinets or put stone we want a cabinets feel the kitchen shares a wall with the living room where we want to put wood and want to put stone on the fireplace and our walls will be a light gray (exemple in last picture) and thinking of doing a rustic wood on the island.

What Buehl said. And, describe what you mean by ”stone”. Provide a photo of the stone. Do you mean a slab? Do you mean a stone tile like marble? It‘s hard to decipher your post.

I would not choose that as a kitchen backsplash. A backsplash is supposed to be wipeable since it is where cooking splashes hit - thats why it’s named ”backsplash”. Also, long narrow tiles are very dated from around 2005.

You should not move the cabinets but you should remove the decorative stuff from on top of them. Don't put the backsplash tile above the cabinets, just paint.
