Colonial influenced West Indes design

Right now I'm really into this style of design and just learning more about it.
I have a small demilune which needs painting. What would be a good dark wood to faux paint? I've been thinking about mahogany. There are raised wooden strips and the top I want to paint in a different faux wood type. Any suggestions? Thanks
