How odd that this question just appeared - I check regularly and had never seen this one before. To answer your question, the legs are close to 4" and then there is a subtle curve of the top beyond that. Since I don't remember the length of the towel bar or the exact depth of the curve, I'd have to guess that the towel bar is mounted about 4" away from the cabinets. Sorry I don't have more info.
