@Moloko Vellocet: I don't know how many diners you have been to, but growing up in the 1950s and even in some areas today diners were and still are commonplace. I can't tell you how many times, I've sat at what we called "booths" or two benches facing one table. Example above is #7.

At many diners the corner had round tables surrounded on two sides by benches with a couple chairs on the open end where the server stood. Examples above are #1, 2, 4, 6.

Keep in mind when designing for a home kitchen, there will be changes to accommodate the space vs a commercial diner or restaurant. To anyone who has experienced diners of the 1940s & 1950s will see the obvious connection. And no, it doesn't have to be exact but they are very close in design. Exaggeration? I doubt it.

The photo below shows both types of banquets. It's certainly not a stretch to take one of these, update it to today's materials and add it to the kitchen.

P.S. My bro's favorite diner was Howard Johnson's restaurant. Here's a photo. Note the bench seating facing the rectangular table - back to back of course since it is commercial establishment, not someone's kitch. Now look all the way to the back on the left. You'll see the circular benches surrounding a circular table. That was my bro's fav place to spread out and eat!

I like these banquette/island combo types, its a great use of space and functionality especially with space restrictions. I am looking for ideas to incorporate my huge island with my guests preference to standard height seating not the popular island bar stool seating. Thanks for the great ideas!

If you have to have an island (and, full disclosure, I don't like kitchen islands at all), accommodating comfortable seating and ample table space is a HUGE plus. I like all of these for that reason.
