Whether you have a “less is more” or “more is more” philosophy toward decor, the bathroom is a good spot to borrow from a minimalist’s bag of tricks. These include the simple lines, monochromatic schemes and lack of visual clutter conducive to a clean, calm atmosphere — perfect for a long soak, relaxing shower or less hectic-feeling morning routine. Here are 10 minimalist features that can make your bathroom feel tranquil and inviting.
1. Monochromatic Color Scheme
A soothing color palette contributes to the Zen-like feeling of a minimalist bathroom. Choosing one base hue and using different shades of it is restful to the eye.

2. Single Metal Finish
To put the focus on one or two stunning elements in a bathroom (whether a wooden vanity, mosaic tile or sculptural tub), try the minimalist move of sticking to one metallic finish. Matching the finish on the faucets, shower head, vanity hardware, lighting, door knobs, toilet paper holder and towel bars will keep them from being a distraction.

3. Frameless Glass Shower Enclosure
The practically invisible quality of clear glass can make the smallest of bathrooms and shower stalls feel much larger than they are. There’s no frame to catch the eye, and as a bonus, you won’t have to dig gunk out of it when cleaning.

4. Wall-Mounted Vanity
A wall-mounted vanity floats, allowing flooring to extend completely underneath it and thereby making a bathroom feel larger. It also provides the opportunity to install LED strip lights beneath it for a soft glow during midnight trips to the bathroom.

5. Wall-Mounted Toilet
Like a wall-mounted vanity, a wall-mounted toilet allows the flooring to extend beneath it. It also hides the clunky, clutter-catching tank inside the wall. For those wondering about how to repair such a toilet, the tank is accessible through the flushing panel.

6. Waterfall Countertop
Minimalism is about carefully editing lines throughout the room to create a sense of seamlessness. A waterfall countertop extends down the sides of a vanity, surrounding it with a streamlined finish.

7. Extended Backsplash
A typical bathroom backsplash is usually about 4 inches high, which creates an additional line between the backsplash and the wall. By extending the backsplash up to the mirrored medicine cabinet, there’s no break to draw the eye.

8. Unadorned Mirror
Minimalism means eschewing the kind of busyness that an ornate frame might add to a bathroom. This simple, streamlined mirror is one long piece that extends from the floor into a recess in the ceiling.

9. Integrated Lighting
Sconces can interrupt the unadorned planes favored in minimalism, so a mirror with an integrated light is a good alternative that keeps the walls clear.

10. Symmetry
Symmetry provides a pleasingly balanced and organized feeling that’s easy on the eyes. Double vanities are a great place to bring in this feeling — consider placing sinks, mirrors and lighting symmetrically to bring balance to the bathroom.
