We purchase this accessory from Rev-A-Shelf, it's stainless steel which is very practical for wet sponges

    Where did you purchase this?

Shouldn't be an issue that I can see, other than splatters and grease on the windows mean constant cleaning and de-smearing

We put something like this in our bathroom (made of plastic) and LOVE it. They do need to be wiped out regularly, but it's easy enough to do!

I will not speak for the Designer but if I may weigh it looks as though it may be a Quartz material. Possibly the Silestone Quartz Mountain Mist but its hard to tell for sure and their are dozens of brands and colors, all have something to offer. Some granites look like this but more common lately is the shift to Quartz options.

The tray is stainless steel - So yes, it can handle wet items.
Mildew can be a problem for sponges even left sitting on the countertop - this doesn't change that.

Bepsf is correct, these Rev-A-Shelf units are stainless steel for that reason

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Tanya Selever added this to Get the Most Out of Your Kitchen’s Undersink AreaJul 18, 2017

The narrow section in front of the sink is often overlooked, but converting it into a tilt drawer creates a great spot for storing frequently used small items. Tip: It’s important to check a product’s hardware materials and warranty to make sure it’s suitable for wet items. These space-saving storage options can be pricey, so you want your investment to last.
