Designer Brook Wagner says she doesn’t subscribe to theme-y kids’ rooms. Like Brown, she likes to have the child pick a few items or colors he or she loves, then build on them. This project for a 12-year-old girl developed from the girl’s saying she wanted bright, bold pops of color, which led to Wagner’s putting together this striking palette of orange, gray and white. A bold color on all the walls may be too much for you, but you can still employ a single spot of color — to finish off a room like the ribbon on a present. The tangerine in this alcove works like the ribbon here, and the color is casually repeated throughout the space. It’s the singular move that makes this bedroom croon.
