Set in a wildflower-filled mountain meadow, this Tuscan-inspired home is given a few design twists, incorporating the local mountain home flavor with modern design elements. The plan of the home is roughly 4500 square feet, and settled on the site in a single level. A series of ‘pods’ break the home into separate zones of use, as well as creating interesting exterior spaces.
Clean, contemporary lines work seamlessly with the heavy timbers throughout the interior spaces. An open concept plan for the great room, kitchen, and dining acts as the focus, and all other spaces radiate off that point. Bedrooms are designed to be cozy, with lots of storage with cubbies and built-ins. Natural lighting has been strategically designed to allow diffused light to filter into circulation spaces.
Exterior materials of historic planking, stone, slate roofing and stucco, along with accents of copper add a rich texture to the home. The use of these modern and traditional materials together results in a home that is exciting and unexpected.

This larger lot had mature trees, but the house was nothing to get excited about, so we decided to build new. A covered porch and rear patio of the kitchen provide great access areas to entertain guests. The living room has coffered beams and a fireplace with custom Rift Sawn Cabinetry. The kitchen is thoughtfully designed and includes a walk in pantry. The home boasts an attached garage, mudroom, a spa-like master suite and an upper level laundry. This home features an open floor plan you are sure to love.

The couple's new kitchen, finished in 2011, makes wise use of a narrow space. The volume of an open cabinet maintains a spacious feel, with plate racks keeping daily wares in arm's reach.

Sporting a bright-yellow finish, custom maple cabinets were treated with aniline dye. This process allows the natural grain of the wood to come through, lending subtle texture and an air of warmth to the space. For the room's color inspiration, Dave and Lu-in turned to the flooring "which explodes with color," she exclaims.

The mammoth phalanxes of white-brick apartment houses that proliferated in the 1960s occupy an architectural purgatory; generic, with boxy interiors devoid of detail, many aren’t even interesting enough to excite a raised eyebrow. Our solution for this exemplar near Astor Place, which fortunately was blessed with premium skyline views, was to relieve the interior ordinariness by stimulating the senses with tactile variety. Axis Mundi created a complexly layered textural palette that injects visual adrenaline into the architectural envelope: a television set into a waxed steel panel topped by clerestory windows with a built-in planter for grasses; wenge wood walls rising from richly figured walnut floors; white subway tile surrounding a subtly colored penny-tile mosaic tub and wall; in the kitchen, Venetian plaster, steel, stone and wood mix harmoniously as a surprisingly spiced exotic concoction. The interiors exude a confident masculinity that challenges the complacency of bland, white-box living.

The beauty of this apartment is the abundance of living areas, with the right touch of contrasting hues to make a bold statement which the owner loves. Accent colors in blue and green in the living room create a striking visual effect with a modern look. While restructuring the interior layout, the design adopts “simplicity in lines” as the basic principle to accentuate the minimalistic look amid the splash of color.
Furniture and adornments are tactfully selected to strike a balance between the color-driven yet minimalistic design. The blue / white designer combination sofa adds character and personality to the entire space. The blue sliding door separating the living room and the bedrooms becomes a predominant feature wall. The green chairs create just the right extent of visual stimulation at the dining corner. Quirky as it may seem, the custom-made carpet with the intricacies of the interwoven color patterns, is one-of-a-kind and sure to capture a lot of attention. Capitalizing on the expansive sea view, broad sliding doors are applied to the balcony, to bring the outdoors in, hence, enhancing the airiness of the apartment.
Right by the entrance of the dazzling blue door, there sits a perfect man cave. A designer AV room which creates a special sanctuary for the owner to indulge in his private world of entertainment. Inspired by artistic 3D installation, all sound absorbers and acoustic diffusers are aesthetically embedded to appear stylish yet functional. The four gigantic diffusers overhanging on the ceiling are brilliantly transformed into a spectacular ceiling light, another bold statement, masculine and cool. Black sound absorber panels on the wall surface create a gallery-like art-piece display. Additional sound absorbers in blue are embedded in the wall cabinet to enhance the visual impact and complement the blue LED lighting.
The guest bathroom design symbolizes a resort-like haven with intricate beauty. A sought-after exotic and adventurous sensation that the owner desires. Italian-made Bisazza tiles with custom-design patterns create a magical surface and flooring like no other.
In contrast with the bold use of colors, the bedroom and en-suite bathroom come with a lighter affair. To create a comfortable and cozy master bedroom, the décor within is soft and gentle, making bedtime even more appealing. The en-suite bathroom, furnished with a palette of earth tone colors, creates a soothing oasis to unwind after a long day work.
Right between the master bedroom and the en-suite bedroom, there stands an open dressing table and a walk-in closet. The exotic chandelier in this passageway between the bedroom and the bathroom creates a spark of visual excitement in this more relaxing ambience.
This apartment is an exemplification of unconventional designs that are set out to bring endless surprises to a normal home environment.

Interior and Exterior Renovation
We are very excited about the conversion of this Vancouver Special in East Van’s Renfrew-Collingwood area, zoned RS-1, into a contemporary multigenerational home. It will incorporate two generations immediately, with separate suites for the home owners and their parents, and will be flexible enough to accommodate the next generation as well, when the owners have children of their own. During the design process we addressed the needs of each group and took special care that each suite was designed with lots of light, high ceilings, and large rooms.

Attention to detail and bespoke touches give this simple bathroom a luxurious feel. To add visual perception of depth to a relatively small space, the bespoke hand-painted glass panel behind the bath is created by painting the background shade on to the back of the glass. The pattern, depth of color and shine is then applied using silver, gold or copper leaf; colors are all hand-mixed to achieve the perfect tone. The panels are made from toughened glass and can be cut to size.
Taps are in chrome with wenge inserts and the lights chrome with a leather trim. The bath panel, wall paneling cornicing and vanity unit are all in glossy painted wood. The floor is in cross cut marble as is the ledge around the bath. The bath has a bespoke chrome trim.
Designed to provide a clever solution to bathroom storage, this bathroom butler is a convenient way to access whilst removing the element of clutter around the bath.
Glossy painted wood shelving houses quilted leather accessories all available from Keir Townsend.

Sliding doors lead onto a tucked away patio area with wood clad wall. Texture and materials create an exciting space with a contrast to the large format grey floor tiles. Exposed brick walls are a great way to make a feature in any space this client did not want to use brick slips so real brick was exposed and the variation in tones makes for a warm and dynamic dining area.
The wrap around glazing and slot window makes the space feel lightweight without overexposing the area.
Wall Colour - Farrow & Ball Strong White.
Floor tiles - Worlds End Tiles (Around £45sqm)
