My husband and I purchased a mid-century home that needed some TLC to modernize the facade, open up the floor plan, and expand the square footage for our family. As a first time home buyer, we were also new to the home renovation world. We were lucky to find Brian Milford at MMA through a mutual friend. Brian and team not only expertly educated us on the architectural and building process, but they also took the time to get to know us, learn about our lifestyle needs and brainstorm ideas. The end result was that the design options they provided were spot on and the team also helped us stretch to a design we love. The biggest stress was the budget and I was happy the team helped us navigate options. Lastly, the key to any large project is also open communication and the info flows both ways but most importantly when we are uncertain, they are there for us. Lastly, Brian and team are creative in terms of navigating with the city planners and overlapping steps where we were able to get us to milestones on time. Would definitely recommend MMA and plan work with them again in the future!

We used Martinkovic Milford for a kitchen remodel, and the end result is fantastic, people always remark that our kitchen is ready for the pages of Dwell magazine! The design is spectacular and their contractor did superior work.
What's more is that once we got into the project we found out that the permit and zoning history of our house is murky at best and we were having extreme difficulty navigating the permit process. Fortunately, Justin and Brian knew exactly who to call. Without Martinkovic Milford and their partners, I doubt our project would have ever gotten off the ground. Thanks guys, we love our new kitchen!

Martinkovic Milford is a fantastic company to work with! We received amazing, professional care while redesigning our SF home. We worked directly with Brian Milford and Amanda. They were outstanding. They helped us use our space in the most efficient ways. Our kitchen is amazing! We love it! They were also very happy to help us figure out how to phase our project- which comes first, how to fit all the puzzle pieces together, etc...that's no easy task.
From phone calls being answered at the reception desk, to final drawings being completed, the customer care we received was great! Everyone is so pleasant, efficient, and helpful. I highly recommend them!

I hired Martinkovic Milford Architects in 2010 for a gut-renovation of a duplex in San Francisco. They designed an updated floor plan (including adding a second bathroom to each unit, closet space, washer/dryer), structural improvements, and required sidewalk improvements. The results were two bright, contemporary units with all the amenities a homeowner would want.

We had an excellent experience with MM.
Scope:
MM did a major remodel of our newly purchased house- they gutted the kitchen and essentially turned our basement/outdoor room into another full
floor.
Aesthetics
Several architects participated in our project, including one of the principals and they were a pleasure to work with overall.
Responsiveness:
The team was professional and receptive to our desires, but did a great job of guiding us into changes. These gentle re-directions have proven their worth many times over in the last 12 months as we've actually lived in the house.
Example- MM talked us into adding a sunken level in our back yard, which transforms the basement into a true ground floor.
Minor complaint: MM was a bit slow to respond at times to both us and to the builders (Moroso Construction, who were spectacular to work with, though not cheap). In fairness, MM was clearly extremely busy at the time they did our project and there were several babies interspersed over the course of the project (including ours).

I met with Brian Milford and immediately took a liking to his personality and then opted to go forward with him on a major renovation of my house. It became a rebuild due to unforeseen structural issues. Needless to say, I felt overwhelmed by the enormity of the project from all angles. What sold me on this firm was the simple fact that they LISTENED to me unlike others I had dealt with previously. As I developed a professional relationship with them, I grew to like them as individuals. They are good people.
He and his colleague, Amanda Miller Wollman, gracefully led me through the complex process spanning seven months of scope, design, documentation for the City, and negotiation with general contractors, etc. Project supervision (contract administration) continued through to the end, a total of a year and change of close interaction. I know it sounds canned, but I sincerely say that no issues developed among MMA, the builder and me. We all got along with differences in opinion and accommodations to the reality of the build out handled with grace and professionalism.
At the outset, they produced a design that suited me to a T. They listened to what I wanted--even if I couldn't really articulate it in 'architectural' language. They translated that into a real world, functional design that was superb and importantly gently steered me away from somethings that in retrospect would have been bad ideas on my end. They were timely in delivery, open to suggestions, and mindful of my budget.
I would not hesitate to recommend them to my neighbors, and, in fact, have done so. I have to commend Amanda Miller Wollman on her exquisite taste in picking out colors, finishes, faucets, etc. She listened to what I wanted and then returned with something better. They hit the bull's eye every time on design/decoration. I wanted nothing staid, conventional or boring while avoiding a vanity project. It arrived on time and far better than I could have hoped.

Martinkovic and Milford Architects developed the plan for the remodel of our historic home in San Francisco and we could not be more satisfied with the results. We were very impressed with their extensive knowledge of San Francisco code and ability to navigate through building departments many hurdles. Our home is a historic home, so it required an architect who is well versed in the standards that must be met for approval of our plan and when possible, knowing the ones that were likely to be given an exemption. To top it off, the great team they have put together at Martinkovic and Milford Architects are very easy to work with and super friendly. This was our the first remodel for my wife and I and we had many questions about everything. I was very pleased with their patience and any questions that my wife or I had where promptly answered. I whole hardheartedly recommend Martinkovic and Milford Architects for your architectural needs because they provide a quality custom product with fantastic service.
