My stereotype of an architect is a domineering male with a huge ego. Esther is nothing like that! We were doing a combination and gut renovation, turning 2 adjoining apartments into one. Soft-spoken, Esther listens very closely, and guides, rather than decrees. There's nothing cookie-cutter about her work. She is respectful of clients, workers, and salespeople. But when issues came up, she was a strong advocate for work being done right. She is great at coming up with plans, and tenacious about seeing them through to completion. Esther has integrity and wisdom. Working with her was a pleasure.

Esther Sperber worked with us in the the summer and fall of 2016 to plan for the relocation, in midtown Manhattan, of the Lilith magazine office, moving to a new location after decades in the same space. She assisted us in evaluating our essential needs, in making decisions about which items to keep that would fit and which to get rid of, and knowledgeably suggested options for furnishings we might purchase for the new place, working within our nonprofit budget. This project was for a rental property that needed a complete refreshment after not having been touched for >20 years. I wanted a clean contemporary look that would be attractive for renters, fully functional, however, I didn't want to be bothered with a lot of choices. I wanted Esther to really run the show and make it great. I also wanted it to be reasonably priced. Esther took it over, did the design, gave me a few choices and ran with it. She shopped the contractors, stayed on top of it and got the project done in a very reasonable time and under budget. The place looks great and rented quickly. The feedback from the brokers who were showing it were outstanding. Like the previous job Esther did, both she and Richard were professional, reasonable and completely trustworthy. They were a pleasure to work with and did fantastic work.

Working with Esther was a most pleasant experience. She knew how to accomplish the tasks needed and where we would search for various supplies . We had two closets and a hallway converted into a most beautiful second bathroom. She directed us to tile and plumbing fixtures' experts and later advised us in terms of beauty. Esther took my small coop apartment from dark, choppy, ill-conceived man cave to a beautiful, clean, open, light-filled space. It now feels like a large apartment! I worked with Esther Sperber and Studio ST Architects on a gut-renovation of a three bedroom two bath apartment in Tel Aviv. They created a beautiful plan maximizing our use of the garden, creating a large spacious kitchen and living room. Studio ST - Esther Sperber and her team - did a fantastic job creating our Upper East Side gallery. She turned the drab, run-down ground floor of a townhouse into an elegant and efficient gallery, office, and library. Esther was excellent at listening to our objectives and making them come to life. It was important to us to have a gallery that was bright and shows the art in the best possible way, but also has a comfortable updated salon-like feel. Visitors often remark about the warm, inviting feeling to the gallery - exactly what we wanted to achieve. She was available to us whenever needed (regular weekly meeting or one-off situations), and would come up with solutions that worked within our budget. Important when working within the constraints of an old building where the unforeseen can come up once walls are opened! It is easy and enjoyable to work with her, and she is extremely knowledgable and focused; Esther has a talent for mastering big plans and small details. We would certainly recommend her to anyone considering a major gut renovation project.

I hired Studio ST to do a gut renovation of a two bedroom apartment on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. They came up with a design that made the space appear much larger and yet was a very practical use of the space. I really love the aesthetic that they created- the lighting and moldings really make the room look modern and elegant at the same time and the choice of colors (mainly white) was spot on.

My good experience led me to hire her again for a gut renovation of my family's apartment at the UWS and yet again for a restaurant plan to be soon. Studio ST guided us through what to us felt like a complicated gut renovation with calm, creativity, and thoughtfulness, as well as respect for and firmness with everyone involved in the project. Agreeing to prioritize light, space, and storage space, with a modern design and staying within budget, Esther brought creative and smart ideas and design schemes to every phase of our 3 bdrm 2bath home combination and renovation. VIsitors to our home always comment on the seamless layout, abundant closets and clean, unique lines. Esther put her special touches on our kitchen, finding Italian lacquered cabinets; on our built in living room media wall and built in AC/heater cabinets; and on solid wood closet doors with a double line piping, consistent throughout our home. Esther ably managed the contractor and his team as well, checking in regularly and amazingly enough, keeping them on schedule and budget too. While much of the home buying/renovating process can be stressful, Esther was a constant beacon of calm. My husband and I looked forward to each of our meetings with Esther and every time felt that we had accomplished the next step toward building our dream home with the excitement of having "found" that perfect backsplash, flooring, etc. We have recommended Studio ST to many friends already and are happy to do so through houzz.
