From the time we entered the McDonald office to the time the cleaning gal cleaned through the remodel area in our home and left, we received professional, quality and individualized service. Our master bath gutted and redone with no tub and more shower, heated tile floor and custom alder wood cabinets. We also took out the little bi fold door closet by our back entry and put in cubbies and a bench. We had great communication with the designers, foreman, and each trade subcontractor that worked on the project. Each worked with excellence taking pride in their work. McDonald has chosen skilled craftsman to work on their team and it shows. Our remodel will enhance our lifestyle and enjoyment of our home.

At the first meeting with Jim McDonald we were impressed by his experience, friendliness, and vision to transform the kitchen and dining area of our 1910s house. He accepted all the input we had into the design but we mostly let the professionals lead the way and we couldn't be happier with the result. The project was completed on time and on budget with very few surprises. We are so grateful to have found McDonald remodeling and plan to hire them again in the future.

We needed a master bath remodel as our bathroom was about 25+ years old and it was time to get rid of the rosy pink and bring it into this century. Everything went wonderfully. We hired this company on June 21st and then worked with their wonderful designers Tamra and Susan to make our selections in all of the materials. Everyone was professional and very easy to work with. Our job began the end of September and Chris kept everyone working in sync and kept us informed on the progress with weekly updates. They provided us with a binder that showed when each portion of the work would be done which we looked at frequently. We ran into a bump in the progress with the tub we selected, but they quickly solved that problem. Tile work and everything turned out beautiful, and we were very pleased that we hired this contractor. Even Lori (the woman who came to clean in the end) was great. Wished I could have kept her, but it isn't in the cards. I hope some day to have the smaller bath remodeled, and I would definitely hire this company for that job as well.

I had a great experience with this company from the initial project review/estimate for a total bathroom remodel through the completion of the last detail. They were upfront with costs, they had a daily schedule of what would be worked on, and what contracting company would be there. They were respectful of our home, covering areas of construction traffic, and always left everything clean at the end of each day. The designer was a tremendous help in making selections, while keeping within budget. Never felt pressure to spend more than I could afford. Would highly recommend this company to anyone considering a renovation project.

After countless interviews trying to find the right Remodeling Company to remodel our kitchen we chose McDonald. We loved Greg's approach, vision, and ability to help us clarify what we were trying to accomplish in remodeling our kitchen. McDonald continued to impress us with their tremendous professionalism. Quite frankly, the Team of people from Greg down to the subcontractors were fantastic. Everyone was extremely professional, courteous, and just a pleasure to work with. However, what really impressed us was that McDonald went above and beyond to address any issues or concerns we had. They even resolved issues that went beyond the scope of the project like fixing a front storm door that was sticking and weather stripping a patio door leading out from the kitchen with a new seal. Working with McDonald Remodeling was a breeze from start to finish. We recently bought our home, knowing the kitchen needed to be re-done before any other major project done in the home, as it was original. We were nervous about doing all the work ourselves, since the layout was definitely not ideal, and moving all the appliances would require hiring countless teams of professionals to do all the individual pieces of the project, and then I would have to manage it all! None of that sounded appealing, so we looked into hiring a design and build firm to take care of it all. We found McDonald Remodeling at a local remodeling expo, and checked out their website. After being impressed with the images we saw online, we asked for a consultation at our home. From that initial consultation, we knew McDonald Remodeling was definitely the firm for us! The entire design, selection, and build process was well-laid out, thoughtful, appropriate, and engaging. From start to finish, communication was great, the selections were exciting and made quickly by both parties involved, and everything was completed on time within the budget described from the initial project contract signing. We ran into some small snags during the build phase, but these were quickly addressed, discussed, and resolved with no lost time on the overall project. Everything was fantastic; my expectations for the timeline were definitely exceeded! At the end of the day, we were able to get the kitchen we wanted, at a budget we specified, within a defined timeline that fit our expectations. What more could you ask for from a design and build firm?

In general, the whole design and build process went great. The fact that I only had a few quibbles is a testament to McDonald's commitment to service. Going into the project, I had already had heard an earful of horror stories about remodels that had gone way wrong, way over budget and lasted way longer than promised. So--I was prepared to deal with a lot of hassles. I can say that I was pleasantly surprised that the entire process was largely hassle-free. We met with Greg (the company co-owner) initially and he was a very approachable and informative guy. His attitude was basically: if something goes wrong, we will find a way to fix it in a timely and transparent fashion. The design process was fun--involving a lot of collaboration and 3D computer models. My wife had a few concerns about the communication between the designer and Greg--but in the grand scheme of things, these issues were resolved quite quickly and to our satisfaction. McDonald created a firm timeline of the construction process, mapped it out for us and were very diligent about sticking to that schedule. Their subcontractors did solid work and were very friendly and punctual. The project manager Kevin was very responsive to texts, emails and phone calls throughout the process--and always followed up in a timely fashion. The end product turned out great. We really enjoy living in our new space and feel good about the decision to sink the time and money into the project. A few extra notes: I would say that McDonald may not be the company that will get the job done for the lowest bid. Part of what you pay for is the planning, the communication, professional subcontractors, and the reliability (on time!)--which, in a bigger project that takes months, is pretty important. Also--they did a nice job of dealing with a less-than-responsive cork tile company. It took forever to get the cork tiles, but McDonald was on them consistently--advocating for expeditious delivery of our product. When the tiles finally arrived, they were still saturated with water. We waited several days to put them up, but they still shrank on the wall as the tiles lost moisture--exposing the drywall beneath. Pretty ugly. McDonald brokered a deal with the company to get replacement tiles out at no additional cost--and offered to redo the job for free. I think this was the fair and right thing to do--but I can imagine some companies not following through on this. So big picture: they did a great job, they did it on time and they were courteous and fair.

McDonald Remodeling implemented our original designer's plan well and as a design-build firm allowed us to make a few changes. The McDonald designer was extremely helpful and it was easy to make selections with samples right on hand in their office. The construction staff were extremely competent and professional. We're very happy with our kitchen.

We loved our spot on the lake, but were tired of our compact kitchen, built in 1970. I know you've heard this story before, but for us, meeting and collaborating with McDonald Remodeling worked out really well! By bumping out a wall 2 1/2 feet into the garage, altering our massive fireplace wall, and converting a storage area into a pantry, the new open floor plan improved our traffic flow and made our space seem SO MUCH more spacious! I had confidence in McDonald Remodeling from the start, knowing that they come with great recommendations and several awards from Houzz. From the design phase to the final cleaning, they provided us a 3 month timeline, detailing goals and staff for each day. It was amazing how close they stayed on schedule....if you've ever remodeled, you know how many bumps in the road there can be. The design staff, project manager and specialists were humble and hardworking, responding promptly to concerns, and respecting our home. We never had to argue a point or wonder when an issue would be resolved. They also had a unique system of keeping track of budget items, so there were no bad surprises in that area. Oh....and I forgot to mention that McDonald has a finish carpenter, that I believe, is the best in the Twin Cities. Having waited so long for a new kitchen, I knew that high level craftsmanship was a necessary ingredient in creating a beautiful kitchen! I'm so glad we chose a remodeler that values relationships with clients and has both vision and expertise. McDonald Remodeling exceeded our expectations, and now our kitchen is no longer stuck in the '70s. In fact, I wouldn't trade it for other kitchens we see in model homes and shelter magazines! Hmmm........now, to that dated bar area in the basement...... !

We had McDonald Remodeling consult and assist us with the interior design of our home. We also discussed various remodeling options as well to try and fully utilize our spaces.
