Shine Star Hardwood Flooring

We were thoroughly pleased with Shine Star Hardwood Flooring. We had our front hall and kitchen refinished. Since the house has an open concept the hardwood also ran into another hall plus a great living/dining room. We didn't want to do the whole thing . They did only the damaged floors and mixed the stain on site to match the remaining floors. We weren't quite satisfied with the semi-gloss finish so they added another coat of high gloss for us - no problem. They had sealed EVERYTHING so we had virtually no dust or mess when they finished. The men were professional, efficient and courteous plus we felt the price was very reasonable. They were recommended to us by a neighbor and we would definitely recommend then to others.

This is the second time I've used Shine Star, and could not be happier. They have restored original hardwood flooring in the living and dining rooms, installed LVT flooring in the kitchen, and repaired/replaced new hardwood stairs in the hallway. All were completed in the time frames suggested, and the workmanship is superior. I highly recommend them and look forward to working with them again for any future flooring projects.

Celso and team did a great job with the hardwood installation, sanding and staining of the existing hardwood floors. They also did the corrective work for the railing when we did not like the craftmanship on the railing.

I’m writing with the highest possible recommendation for Shine Star. Our project completed yesterday after the team worked 6 consecutive days, gave me Sunday off, and then came back Monday for finishing touches and a walkthrough. The job was to replace original floors from 1906 that presented a number of challenges, some of which other vendors bidding the work told would not be possible to address. Specifically meeting the new tile kitchen floor on level, without a transition. (If you have not already done a partial job on a single level of your home, do it all at once! I live and learn) I felt like Shine Star understood me, the house, and the project better than any of the other bidders. They came in and evaluated the job the way I had been after staring at it for 8 years. It was going to be a lot of work and it was going to be amazing when it was done. They recommended stunning options for flooring and came by for a few visits while estimating to make sure they felt the choice would work given the challenges. I’m working from home, which was not great for this, but if someone has to tear your house apart while you are on zoom calls, these are the people you want doing it. Everybody that was in my house was easy to be around, respectful and cool. I had a strong feeling, being with them all day, that everyone involved really cared about the house and the way the work turned out. All that and they showed up at 8A everyday and worked like monsters. On financial matters: Some of the best and most difficult advice I’ve received as the owner of a 100+ year old house is not to go with the low bid. Shine Star was the highest number in this case, but I believe I paid a fair price for very skilled work and beautiful materials. And remember...I think they were the only ones who took the time to really understand the job. We completed without overages and the result is beyond what I thought would be possible in this house. My husband and I had our floors done this past January and they are spectacular to say the least. I absolutely loved the professionalism and attention to detail of Celso and his team. Whenever I had a question or concern, his secretary Lorrany was quick and delightful. If there was any issue, Celso was always quick to resolve it the most efficient way. It is hard to find a company nowadays that care about your floors and the outcome as much as we do. Will recommend to everyone. Very happy clients.

A friend referred this company to us. Shinestars quotes came in lower then other companies and I regret using them. A well managed business has the owner or the manager on site checking in on the work. In our case, he was not present for the majority of the job and rarely checked in which led to irresponsible mistakes by the workers. I had new wood floors installed and existing floors sanded and stained. New floor installation is decent - some uneven areas that have large gaps. The poly across the entire downstairs is lifting and peeling - doesn’t appear he used the higher end finish I paid for/enough coats since everything is peeling and lifting now. I have to have a another company come in for $2000 to rebuff and poly the floors. Other issues we experienced: to power the sander they opened up my electrical box in basement without asking and rigged it to plug the machines in. as a result, blew the fuse and didn’t check to make electric was back on which resulted in the refrigerator being off, etc for more than 12 hours. After we brought this to Celsos attention, he reminded his guys to make sure the electric was back on. The next day, the fridge had no power (again) and water was pooled infront of the fridge on the newly sanded floors which resulted in the floorboards needing to be replaced. The replacement of the floorboards were not done properly because after 2 months, the wood was soft, wavy and lifting from the rest of the wood. When I called Celso to ask if he can come fix, he said he would stop by. Celso did not show up to look at the issues - instead, he sent two workers with minimal English to do the job. When the floors were completed, I noticed they did not match the rest of the floors - the workers used the wrong finish (shiney, instead of satin). the company returned to my home to fix the work for a third time and it still doesnt look right. I’m paying another company to help me fix my floors. It’s unfortunate because the floors still don’t match and this was a result of shine star ruining them. Once I brought my concerns about the ruined floors to celso attention, he agreed to install vinyl in the laundry room. However, once celso “fixed” the floors infront of the fridge he asked for the $500 for the vinyl installation, however, the woods floors are still not fixed and were a direct cause of his company. If the communication was more clear, between myself and Celso (by documenting via email) and Celso and his workers - some of these issues could have been resolved. Document everything via email if you use this company. Wilson was the only person throughout this entire process who seemed to care about the work being done and he was a pleasure to work with during the few interactions I had with him.

Shine Star recently completed a major flooring project for us involving carpet removal throughout our house and double stairway, installation of pre-finished flooring in 5 bedrooms, hallway, family room and spare room, plus staining existing cherry floors on the first level to match the new flooring, stairway treads and installing new balusters. It was challenging to get the stain just right but Celso, Lorrany and their crew were phenomenal and they patiently worked with us until it was right. We are so glad we went with the best in the business considering our extensive project because they did not disappoint! They were extremely professional throughout the process and the hard working crew showed up as scheduled and on time, performed their job very skillfully and cleaned up at the end of each work day. Celso was always willing to answer any questions and address any concerns along the way and he and the team made sure we were satisfied with the final result. It was a pleasure working with the Shinestar on our flooring project. They did a great job in fixing some of the squeaky floor boards, replacing our treads, stair rails, spindles, posts and sanding and staining our floors. From the quoting process until the very end, Lorrany and Celso have been very patient and timely with their response. They worked with us to try to find the best solution for our home with a reasonable turn around. It was important that everything get done before our son's birthday. They quoted us a two week project but they were finished within a week and a half. I was especially thankful to Lorrany who was very patient with us and very responsive with our emails and phone calls. I had used Shine Star Hardwood Flooring to refinish the hardwood floors in my old house before we put it on the market (May 2016). The floors were so beautiful, I kicked myself that I had not had them refinished sooner so I could enjoy them. My current home had two rooms of an addition with wall-to-wall carpet. The master bedroom's was white. After four years in the house, I could not take the maintenance of the white carpet and decided to have hardwood put in. I decided to have the other room with carpet done as well which meant having some white ceramic tile ripped out and the hardwood installed there as well. The entire project took about six days. The workers used masks and we were socially distanced. I had arranged for the work before the stay-at-home order was in place and was pleased that Shine Star was willing to continue with safety precautions. The floors are beautiful and I am so glad I had the work done! Neat, clean, worked quickly!

Selso and his crew were fantastic. They expertly repaired and refinished the oak floors in several rooms of our 130-year-old Victorian. My wife and I couldn't be happier with our new floors. We expect to use Shine Star again soon to do the remaining rooms. I highly recommend them.

We could not be happier with our floors! Our house is over 100 years old and the floor install was not an easy task! Celso and his team did a tremendous job with all of the projects we requested - sand/refinish floors to match the color of other hardwood floors in the house; replaced carpeting with engineered wood over cement that also matched the look of the rest of the house. They worked very efficiently and the final product looked great. They also followed up to make sure we were satisfied with everything and touched up a few very minor marks that were in the wood, leaving everything in perfect shape. I recently used Shine Star Hardwood Flooring and could not be more pleased. The owner showed up when he said he would to give me an estimate and his workers showed up up they said he would. In addition, the workers were polite and responsible and did a great job. After pulling up old carpeting, they pointed out areas where there was no wood or large holes had been drilled into the floor and promptly repaired and/or replaced those pieces and did so perfectly and for a reasonable price. I went out on a whim and hadn't done much research prior to hiring Shine Star Hardwood but am glad that I did! I wholeheartedly recommend them.

We had some cracked/damaged wood sections of our floor, and they repaired this by replacing the damaged boards and sanding/staining those boards to match what we have. They did a really great job and it is hardly noticeable at all. I was impressed with their work and happy with the cost. I would recommend to anyone.

Just had my 30 year old hardwood floors refinished with a new stain... When I called the office to arrange an estimate, Lorrany was warm and welcoming... The owner, Celso Leniar, came by and gave me a fair estimate... His crew, Kaio, Shelly, and Luis, arrived on time and put in full days... Left them with the key and days later when I returned after the job was finished, the floors were like new... and the place was immaculate... No surprises... Just a first-class work product and service!

Shine Star fixed two small areas of our hardwood floors, which involved removing and replacing the damaged sections and staining. We can’t even see where the old floor ends and the new floor begins. Stellar work!

WOW, what a great job Celso and his crew did. Ran into a view setback's when changing out Polished Porcelain Tile with mud under it and then cement board and holy cow a laminate floor under that. No problem for Shine Star. After removing all of that and installing a beautiful wood floor the saddle's in the doorways were to high. Again, no problem for the experienced Wilson and his crew to make it look great and matched. Also had our master bedroom wood floor sanded and finished. We wanted them to match the pre-finished harwood floors that came with the house, again a perfect match. We also wanted to put tile in the small foyer and they did a great job. They were here for about 4-5 days and my wife was amazed as to how clean a job they did...no dust anywhere. We're very happy with the quality of the workmanship for all the job's they did and the courteous hardworking crew they have who overcame all of the hardship's this job through at them.

I hired Shine Star to buff and re-coat my hardwood floors. They did an outstanding job. Not only did my floors come out amazing, they re-located a full room of large and heavy furniture without so much as a scratch on my walls (my house is newly painted so I was concerned at first) and put everything back in the same exact location. Amazing level of detail and care in every aspect of the job. I highly recommend them!

Had hardwood floors installed in several rooms. Celso also was able to stain my original hardwoods to the new ones he installed and they matched perfectly. Great job. Looks great. Very flexible. They also worked quickly, done in 5 days.

Celso and his team were great to work with. When I first reached out to Shine Star an estimate was scheduled within a few days and Celso arrived right on time. He went through the house with me and I showed him the flooring that we wanted refinished. He was very patient and got back to me with a quote within a few days. The team worked from Monday through Thursday and we were able to take a look at the floors on Friday. They look fantastic! We didn't have to replace any wood and we've already received many compliments on the floors from family and friends. We had our floors sanded and finished with oil poly. The cost of the project was very competitive and the process from start to finish was very easy. We are very happy with our floors and will be using Shine Star again for the rest of our house.

We are extremely happy with job Selso and his team did. They transformed an entire level of floors in our new home. Selso is professional and walked us through the entire process, giving suggestions as to our desired stain and finish options. He also installed a new bannister. His team was thorough, timely and clean/organized, leaving our home as it was found without a dusty mess left behind. In addition, he did this all at a reasonable price. I have had Shine Star on two occasions. One was a older home that was going on the market and the other was my home. The floors were restored in both homes beautifully. They were professional and reasonable. I would highly recommend.

We hired Shine Star to install new hardwood floors in our master bedroom and playroom. We also wanted to lighten the stain of our entire first floor, so they refinished & repaired (where needed) our great rm, living, dining rm, foyer and kitchen. They also customized flush mount floor vents which look so seamless. Celso and his team did an amazing job and were easy to work with. We were getting our walls painted at the same time, but they coordinated timing and did not get in each others way. We still have the upstairs of our home to renovate, so we will certainly hire Shine Star again.

In four days Shine Star made my floors look better than new. Shine Star flooring replaced the wall-to-wall carpeting in our master bedroom with a hardwood floor to match the other rooms in our condo unit. We then had the room freshly painted. Both the flooring and the painting were done very professionally. The flooring crew was top-notch. The parquet floor they installed looks stunning. They kept the bedroom door closed while they were working to minimize the noise (they had to use a saw on a number of tiles) and to keep the dust from dispersing. The floor is large and took about a day-and-a-half to complete. The guys cleaned up completely after the work was done (including removal and disposal of the carpeting). The painting crew was also first-rate. They protected the new floor from any splatters, and walls, ceiling, and doors were painted to perfection. With priming and painting, this took about a day-and-a-half. They also cleaned up completely after the work was done. We are very happy to have found Shine Star and recommend them highly.

I recently move from Livingston NJ to Port Monmouth, The new residence had carpeting throughout and we wanted hardwood floor. Our first thought went too Shinestar as they had previously done an excellent job on the floors we had put in in Livingston. Celsar came to the new house, gave us a reasonably quote and 2 days later his crew was at the house. They did a fantastic job and were very professional. Celso Leniar from Shine Star Hardwood Flooring came through for us in a pinch. Our booked hardwood floor installer canceled at the last minute during our 8-week gut renovation project. They were to install the floors over the course of 3 days but canceled by text days before the install date, Labor Day weekend. We had to scramble to get a new installer and found Celso through the retailer where we bought out Somerset flooring, Vanwoods (Adel). We checked reviews and booked an estimate date. He gave us an initial $2.50 psf price without seeing the space and made plans to visit the site the following week, after Labor Day. The quote ended up being $3.50 psf to glue the tongue and groove flooring for approx. 700 sq ft plus $1,050 to demo, remove trash and patch the existing floor. I received a contract by email from his office and we were all set with payment due after completion. We hired Celso and he showed up that Saturday, early and ready to work with a crew of 5 to get the job done in 1 day, but the site wasn’t ready due to our contractors delays. The kitchen was to be installed (minimum base cabinets) and the site was to be ready for flooring. It was nowhere near ready with debris covering the floors, materials covering the floor and the island wasn’t installed (still wasn’t installed until nearly a week later - 8.5 weeks into an 8 week project). Celso and my GC spoke and I later learned that the GC wanted the crew to hang out while they moved everything around, from side to side. The GC only had 1 guy with him. Celso had to leave with the crew and they had no more dates open for September. Although we didn’t get to use Shine Star, I have recommended Celso to all of our neighbors since we keep a list of preferred contractors in our google group. I am confident that he would have gotten the job done for us, professionally and in 1 day. Our GC got the floor installed, but not without problems due to not patching the concrete floor in some spots (until I forced the issue and had underlayment taken up) and initially using carpenter’s glue instead of tongue and groove adhesive.

The guys at Shine star just finished installed 1800 sft of an exotic Brazilian walnut engineered floors across my entire house. I couldn't have been more happy with the quality, professionalism and expertise these guys have in terms of hardwood floors. My husband and I have a lot of questions... and I mean a lot, especially since we have radiant heating. We did a ton of research and discovered a lot of contractors have no clue what type of wood that should be used for radiant heating. We would mention rift and quarter sawn and they looked at us like we had three heads; not Celso. He started explaining rift and quarter sawn and the expansion and a bunch of other information that the majority of the other contractors had no clue. We knew he knew his stuff. Celso answered every question with much patience and knowledge. We need to thoroughly understand the process and Celso essentially walked us through it. His workers were very cognizant of what they were doing and were very neat and clean (big deal for us). They completed the project within the time frame they stated and within the price (very competitively priced). Celso's recommendations made our floors, steps, and railings look great: from the style of the railings to the two tone stains on the floors and railings (which I would never ever consider; I'm more a uniform tone type of gal). Complete professionals, great price, quality work - highly recommended. I do not have photos because we still have renovations going on and I did not want to take pictures with drop cloths all around! Either way, came out beautiful and we would highly recommend Celso and his guys!

Celso and his team did a tremendous job on our home. We bought a 100-year-old fixer-upper in Maplewood and put new floors in the first and second floors. I had a hardwood floor put down in my bedroom. They did an amazing job, everything went perfectly I would highly recommend them!

We obtained estimates from three contractors for putting a zero-VOC finish on the hardwood floors in our "new" home. Two of the contractors recommended products that, while low-VOC, were not VOC free. Celso from Shine Star was the only one to recommend a truly VOC free product. And it was him who told us that the product his competitors were going to use was not truly VOC free. AND, even though Celso was going to use a more expensive product on our floors than what the others recommended, his estimate was competitively priced with the others we obtained. We told him we were in a hurry, and he made arrangements for work to start the very next day, and they finished our entire house ahead of schedule--in ONE day (ok, we had to leave the floors to cure, but the labor was done in one day, which meant the curing started and ended faster). That meant so much to us, because we had to wait to move our furniture and other belongings and make some other repairs until AFTER the floors were done. Best of all, the floors looked absolutely amazing (like they are brand new), our house was spotless and there was no residual smell. I feel like we were lucky to discover Shine Star, and I will definitely recommend them to my friends.

I have worked with Celso Leniar/ Shine Star Hardwood Flooring on two different occasions. They were absolutely fabulous to work with both times, and the wood floors they installed look amazing. They did a great job all the way around. Meticulous installation (no large gaps between boards), quality finishing (sanding, coating, sealing). Other important attributes worth mentioning: Celso returns phone calls, his team is here when he says they will be, they are careful to protect the rest of the house from as much dust and construction havoc as possible, the job is completed in a timely fashion (on or before promised date). I found Celso to be fair with respect to market pricing for hardwood floors. We have an upcoming project and are looking forward to working with them again.

This is the second time I have used Shine Star. The first time was just one room where the job was to pull a 20 year old carpet off and bring the floors beneath to match the rest of the house. The second time was in my new home that needed the entire 1st and 2nd floor sanded, stained and polished. They did an absolutely beautiful job, we love the way our floors came out.! Celso is a great guy who is easy to work with and very reliable...but he is the business end. Thankfully, his crew is just as good. We were extremely impressed with their punctuality, observance of timelines, and patience. It took 2 guys 9 tries to finally make us happy with a stain color, but they were happy to keep mixing and testing different colors on the floors until we were excited about the outcome. After 3 coats of finish, my wife and I noticed just a few tiny spots around the edges that were streaky and or stained lighter (we're perfectionists). We pointed these issues out to the crew and they fixed up everything perfectly before/with the final coat! I look forward to using Shine Star again.
