PLEASE USE CAUTION: My experience with Espire Homes left me feeling indignant, frustrated and disappointed. The berating, belittling and gaslighting by the owners was an experience that no one should have to deal with for their first time building a home. Rather than go into in-depth details on issues about the whole process, I just wanted to share insight into one general aspect of our home build. Communication & Customer Service. We had an initial build price but had to deal with various price increases and overages. This is not the issue. The issue is, I simply wanted to know what the cost breakdown was for our house with the additional increases and overages. Once I asked about the overages & cost and requested to see the invoices, the belittling, berating and gaslighting began. Blame was even placed on us for the owner’s health issues, among other accusations, due to asking for a cost breakdown…. simply asking to understand/see information that should be openly provided to us. This one aspect of the building experience alone highlights a lack of quality and integrity that one would expect from a home builder when constructing an expensive home. There are other builders who maintain a far higher level of decorum and professionalism. My suggestion as a regretful customer of Espire Homes is to seek out those other builders.

My husband and I toured many model homes and fell in love with an Espire floorplan. We met with Daryl and the sales team multiple times and were impressed with their conviction to stand behind their work, thus, we signed the contract to build our forever home. As we already owned the land and the bank preapproved our construction loan, we were given a build time frame of 10-12 months. From the time we signed our contract and paid the required fee to begin the process, 9-months elapsed before the first shovel hit the dirt. We accepted the many excuses for the lengthy delay and ignored the red flag believing it was pandemic related. Unfortunately, throughout the build, the delays and excuses continued. Working with Espire is like herding cats – the miscommunication, lack of communication, and disorganization was rampant. The project manager never seemed to take our concerns seriously citing “industry standard,” the selections coordinator was a complete disorganized mess, and the subcontractors were subpar and the work was shoddy. The overall finish quality is sloppy - paint runs on most of the trim and paint splatters on the flooring, uneven finishes on the cabinetry, interior door hinges missing screws, unfilled nail holes, and mortar glops on the exterior trim. We have been in our home for some time now and still have unfinished punch list items. The journey of completing a build with Espire was not the experience we were promised or expected and left us hugely disappointed. Our previous new construction build with a “cookie cutter” builder was a better experience.

We are still working with Espire right now and I hope to be able to come back and change this review, but as of right now our experience is nothing but frustration and disappointment. My family and I recently purchased a model home from Espire, and unfortunately once they had our money the customer first facade disappeared immediately. The house is beautiful, however, the journey to get there was filled with nothing but frustration and disappointment. Espire’s communication is nothing short of abysmal. It feels like shouting into a void. You’ll need to follow up multiple times just to get a response. When things do go off the rails good luck getting anyone on the phone or to sit down with you. They will go out of their way to make sure they are not available to sit down face to face with you. Once they have your check in hand, it’s like they vanish into thin air. Daryl, the owner, will sit down with you before you sign on or give a check and swears his company will stand by their work and then seems to conveniently ignore any issues that arise after your check is in his hands. His team may respond after multiple emails but it’s as if the moment the ink dries on the check, your concerns become invisible to him. Like I said the house itself is beautiful but the headaches caused by their poor communication and lack of responsiveness overshadow the beauty of the finished product. If you’re considering working with them, brace yourself for nothing but frustration and a lack of accountability.
