Joe Human helped us with a redecoration project, and was absolutely terrific. He had great ideas, managed all the ordering, and supervised the work. He was always very responsive. We live in a NYC coop and it was not easy to get all the necessary permissions from the building to proceed with the work, but Joe helped us all the way. And then, when the first contractor we hired abandoned the job halfway through (nothing to do with Joe himself!) he put in far more time than we could have expected to help us find a new contractor and to bring the project to a successful conclusion. His costs were entirely reasonable. We couldn't be happier with him.

Joe Human has designed two Brooklyn coop apartments for me, and in both cases, the results were stunningly beautiful. First, I am grateful for his creative ideas for maximizing space, finishing difficult edges, and enhancing original features that take time and trouble. Next, his attention to detail -- scrutinizing every angle of the project and communicating with the contractor -- were invaluable. Finally, his personality makes him extremely easy to work with -- he is able to negotiate conflicts without ruffling feathers...important in NYC co-op buildings and when dealing with Landmarks Preservation Committee, as we had to. I would recommend Joe Human and Designs by Human to anyone, without hesitation.

Imagine for a minute arriving in the trawling metropolis of New York City with only three suitcases and a box. You immediately start work and then spend every other waking moment over days, weeks and perhaps months hunting down your perfect apartment only then faced with moving into a white box. Time poor, and faced with the interior design skills of a fifth grader, what do you do? Of course you begin your research online but very soon become absolutely inundated with the plethora of options available: Everything from complete turnkey services for the cost of an arm and two legs to the other extreme where you upload floor plans and without any consultation you’re provided with a list of items you need to purchase and not really sure it’s the look you’re going for in a space you want to call home . Then you find Joe from Designs by Human. Joe provided the perfect balance between complete turn key and internet email; a personalized Human approach just as his namesake suggests. With his consultative style Joe met with me and spent time understanding what I was looking for: A warm design and a space that would feel like home — likely a tough ask (just imagine a typical New York apartment and a design that accommodates a place for overseas guest, a space to entertain and a place to work from home) and a client (me) who’s likes to get involved and is hands on. But Joe with his incredible patience absolutely nailed it. An amazing design in such a small space filled with interesting artistic elements and features integrated throughout my home. It feels warm and personalized incorporating elements of “me”, is complimented by my guests, and is certainly something that I’d never have managed to accomplish by myself. Joe is a dynamic, creative, and innovative designer! I worked with Joe for many projects during my time at Poppin. Besides the fact that all of Joe's projects were extremely inspirational, I was particularly impressed with Joe's ability to translate the clients needs from their vision to real life. Joe Human has an amazing eye coupled with the ability to create amazing work on tight budgets. He is a capable designer/contractor and I would reccomend him to anyone looking for a sense of style he is a master of the 'WOW' moment- he is a magician.

Joe at DBH is incredible to work with. He has vision, is creative and imaginative. He most recently worked on a bathroom renovation for us. What was old, dark and drab is clean, spa-chic and sophisticated. I love being in there! Joe envisions so much more than I can, even more than a lot of architects/designers do and is an outside-the-box thinker. It took me a while to trust wholeheartedly in his vision but now I rely his eye so much, he's my first call. No more spending hours and hours of time on the computer.
