Kim was an absolute dream. She was incredibly professional but also warm and easy to work with. She truly listened to me and was able to turn my vision into a reality. Kim was also very mindful of my budget and made great suggestions based on what I was able to spend. She also hired the best contractors to do the job and was able to get great prices on materials because of her vast network of resources. I can't wait to get the next project going with her.

We worked with Kim Johnson for our home’s paint and drapery upstairs, and our basement renovation, including new kitchen and built-in entertainment wall. Stop searching, you have found the designer that does it all, with the most exquisite taste and vast experience. Kim is a professional with so much industry knowledge about kitchens. She held our hands from the start: went to vendors with us for selections, spent hours designing kitchen and built-in unit cabinet design layouts to present to us, reworking and improving designs based on our feedback. Kim knows electric, plumbing, lighting, flooring. Oh and Kim’s expertise with paint color selections is superb. She knows color, and walked us through many iterations of white until we decided on upstairs (BM Dove Wing) and the basement (BM Silver Satin). Most importantly, Kim listens to her clients. Kim made strong suggestions to us, but listened when I had different ideas (electrical outlets under the cabinets). She knows when to push on a feature (American black honed granite instead of white Calacatta Maggio Duo quartz) with the gray cabinets on our entertainment wall,) to entirely improve the look. She will sit and look at light fixtures with you, for as long as it takes, to find the right one. Kim remembers every single detail, to make sure your project proceeds smoothly with the contractor. She works from the heart, loves what she does, and it shows. It was a pleasure working with Kim every single step of the way. Thank you, Kim, for our stunning, classy, urban finished basement!

I used Kim to help me elevate the atmosphere and interior design of our urban, open plan, row house. We had started the decorating with a few modern furniture stores but it was not coming together. Kim immediately identified the elements that would take it to the next level--wall color, furniture adds, rugs, lighting etc. The outcome was beyond my expectation. Everyone is wowed when they enter our home. Kim has the X factor for design and understanding clients' needs. She brings it all together with expertise and care. Kim Johnson has helped me on two design projects in two houses. The first was a kitchen and family room renovation. Kim walked me through the process and had the knowledge or design, color, products and contractors who could produce my dream kitchen. She guided me in making the best use of the space and making it look fabulous! The project was executed seamlessly and timely. Kim also helped me work long distance on a renovation of a 3 bedroom home. The design, colors, furnishings, light fixtures, fun accents and ideas she provided have all made the home functional and extremely warm and inviting.

Kim spent several hours at my home and could not have been more professional or kind. She took time to listen to my ideas and then built on those to advise me on the best way to refinish my master bedroom and master bath. The end result is better than we ever could have imagined. She has great connections and had paint samples delivered to our door quickly so that we could make the final decision. I contacted Kim Johnson to assist me in a renovation of my 52-year-old 4-bedroom colonial style home in Western Fairfax,County. I needed some design help and got it! She opened my eyes to possibilities I'd not considered and helped me dispose of ideas that cost a lot of money with little potential return should I decide to sell at some point. I was impressed by her tear-down and install and paint crews - all highly professional people. I now have a brighter, more up-to-date, occupational therapy - approved home with a new, larger kitchen with matching powder room and open area to the updated family room, revamped upstairs bath rooms, consistent window treatments, a wonderful good-grade carpet and consistent trim throughout the house. We kept some wallpaper and some tile I like that works well with the new. We upgraded the pantry / laundry room and replaced HVAC and garage entry doors. The front door is more inviting and the patio posts are new. She even helped me hang pictures!

Kim did a great job for us in overseeing our master bathroom renovation. She works closely with and oversees the renovation people who do the work. She redesigned the bathroom and help us chose tile, paint colors, cabinets, shower, fixtures/ etc., and also chose the wall paints for the bathroom and the adjoining master bedroom. The whole project was done in 8 days, with a minimum of noise and disruption. Project cost was about $14K, included Kim's services, tiles, shower, cabinets, painting. We will be using her services again to redo our kitchen and family room.

Kim is fantastic!! She takes such an interest in her clients and provides the absolute best service. She knows exactly how to transform a space to make it functional for her client's needs. She is very detailed and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is just right. For example, she spent many extra hours helping us fix our kitchen design (we made numerous adjustments and she was always happy to help). She has phenomenal cabinet makers who were easy to work with--we adjusted our plan 3 times, but they were quick to help and didn't mind recreating the design. Kim has lots of experience and knowledge about home design. Another concern for us was the price. Since she has companies she works with she can get her clients fantastic discounts, and it is a very smooth and easy process since she knows them very well. She helped us get the best prices to stay within our budget. I can't say enough about how much we loved working with her. Highly recommend!

I met Kim when the painter I hired offered her services to help me select paint colors. Kim ended up helping me with so much more! Kim was such a delight and so helpful with selecting the perfect colors for my house. She visited my home where she offered me a million other terrific suggestions for redecorating my house, including new furniture instead of the new slipcovers I was planning to buy - which were set to cost me the same as brand new furniture. She got my style right away and was very encouraging and uplifting. We next met me at a wonderful furniture store I did not know about where they make quality furniture in Virginia. Kim had done homework in advance of our meeting and had selected personalized options for me to choose from. In May 2010 I took a big leap of faith and signed a commercial lease for my yoga business. The place had great bones, but needed a lot of work. Knowing I needed some professional advice, one of my students referred me to Kim Johnson. I had never worked with a interior designer before and was nervous at the first meeting, but Kim came in with her laid back, warm personality, listened to my vision of the ideal studio, and I knew she was the right person for the job. Our budget was small, but that didn't deter her from finding awesome ways to use beautiful paint colors, wall murals, and being creative in finding key accessories that set the place apart from other yoga studios in the area. Every week someone new comes in and tells me how stunning the studio is! Kim is a hard worker, reliable, easy to work with, and has a great eye for color and details. I loved her so much for my business, that I called her to help with a country home my husband and I bought. Her suggestions transformed our house, and we will definitely use her again.

Kim helped me renovate my kitchen. Kim knows her profession, has a vision, is flexible and a great partner. She always had ideas to share to help me realize my vision. What I particularly appreciated about Kim was her willingness to work within my budget. I am a single mother with limited means. I saved up for a while to afford my kitchen remodel and needed to do it all within a tight budget. Kim had ideas on how I could achieve my dream but to stay within my means. She would brainstorm with me about ways to get things done affordably and yet to stay with the quality that mattered to me. My kitchen looks terrific and I get compliments every time people come to my house and see my kitchen. This remodel took place November 2014. Since then, I have had Kim come back to help me with a project in my dining room. Next (when I save some more), I will have Kim come back to help me with a spare bedroom (currently a junk room) that will become a study. I would recommend Kim to anyone - not just for kitchens but also for any house project. She is not only a professional in her craft but is also lovely to work with.

Kim helped me decorate my whole house after we had it remodeled from a traditional colonial to a more contemporary, open floor plan. She really paid attention to my ideas and thoughts, she looked at what I had and incorporated what made sense, she stayed within my budget. She has WONDERFUL ideas, is prompt, reliable, kind and fun. Kim Johnson of Kim Johnson Designs was a pure joy to work with and would highly recommend her!!! Throughout our whole-house remodel Kim helped to guide, recommend, encourage, support and educate us in an informative, experienced yet respective and completely comfortable way. She helped us to navigate the overwhelming and confusing process of a million choices by helping to uncover our desires and wishes (often unknown to us) to create a cohesive design direction that was in our style and budget. Our project included building new spaces (master bedroom suite, family room, mudroom) with an entire kitchen rebuild, as well as remodeling 3 additional bathrooms, laundry room and re-purposing existing space in 4500 sq ft house. The planning for the process was 7 months and construction 7 months, while interior design continues. Kim helped us make construction decisions during the early stages with an architect - she provided the real-world, practical, "women's-view" with architectural experience. Kim helped to confirm design decisions for all cabinetry (layout, wood choices, hardware and granite countertops) for extensive kitchen cabinets, dining room, and 4 bathrooms). Kim then directed the paint color choices for all rooms in the house and was essential in the selection of custom furniture items for new family room as well as window treatments for several rooms in the house. She also continues to make suggestions/answer questions about any area of the house whenever I ask. Working with Kim was like spending time with a dear friend, who is just as interested in your project and its success as you are (sometimes more when you are frustrated and tired of making decisions). Although she often works as a general contractor, we were working with a separate architect and contractor for the execution, yet she complimented them beautifully. She is very flexible in her arrangements and can work with anyone and any situation. Kim is very fair and reasonable. You will love working with her.

Kim Johnson helped me with two projects--a dressing room with a vanity and a master bathroom. In addition, she suggested wall colors and carpeting throughout my condo. Her services included recommending lighting and bathroom fixtures, assisting in selecting tile and countertops, and arranging for an electrical/plumbing contractor, whose work she supervised. She is a master at selecting and matching paint, and I have received many complements on her eye for color. Kim is very easy to work with. She listened to my needs and preferences and is adept at scheduling and following up on arrangements. I highly recommend her and will call upon her for any decorating needs I may have in the future.

Kim is such a warm and enthusiastic person that working with her was so easy. She was always there for me, always took my call or text, never left me waiting which was really important. Her ideas about different projects in my house..2 bathroom remodels and basement mini kitchen were perfect! She saved me so much money and her ideas were spot on!

I have worked with Kim on two renovations; a kitchen and a hall bath. In both cases, Kim has been an enormous help. She knows the right people for the job, has great ideas and great imagination, and has the wisdom and tact to gently nudge me into another direction when I come up with some bone-headed idea that cannot possibly work. She's a joy to work with, and I'll probably be calling her again in the future.
