Did a new house decorating project with Red Shutters and really enjoyed working with Marina and Janine. They are smart, responsive, creative and were able to take my very basic ideas about what I wanted and turn them into a full-fledged plan of action for all the rooms of the house. Marina was able to look at my existing furnishings and work with me to decide what to keep, what to replace, and what needed to be purchased new (which turned out to be a lot). They are also great at the back end of things - keeping track of the budget, furniture delivery and shade installation dates, coordinating calendars, coordinating with the builder, etc, which I consider to be equally important. Our place is a second home in the Hudson Valley (we are not there full time), and having the team available in-person to supervise installs or to pop by to take a quick measurements was hugely helpful. Would definitely use them again, and we are continuing to work together in 2025.

We started working with Marina/Red Shutters because we were moving into our first house and wanted a totally clean slate. This was the first time we had ever dealt with a designer. Marina held our hand through the initial steps as we started to figure out our style and budget and made us feel very comfortable. Marina was able to let us set the overall design tone but then provide us with sets of options to make everything feel less overwhelming. As we have gotten more comfortable with our own tastes we've been able to work flexibly and seamlessly within her overall designs. I think the best part of the work Marina has done is that even though we started from scratch and we are working in phases toward a long-term design vision, the incremental stages along the way don't feel unfinished at all. She has been able to create extremely livable designs and environments in our home that feel refined and finished even though we know there are going to be future steps we can take to build on the work we've started. Marina and her team were fantastic. We bought a house with an interior straight out of the late 1980s, and it needed a complete remodel. Marina did an excellent job helping us choose the furniture, layouts, paint, tiles, wallpaper, and so on. She is warm and friendly and always available with good communication. And more than that, she used her network of connections to find us top-quality contractors to do the remodel and installations. You often hear horror stories of sloppy contractors out there. No so with Red Shutters. I contacted The Red Shutters in 2022 after purchasing a small townhouse that lacked character. Marina and her team got to work quickly, presenting me with options to help maximize my space and make it a home. They truly listened to my ideas and took them from basic to beautiful. To put it simply, Marina is amazing and we are so very fortunate to have found her. Upon purchasing our forever home in June, I knew we would benefit from professional help in updating it - from selecting the perfect stain color for the hardwood floors, to paint colors for walls and built in cabinets, to furnishing each room, to the renovation of two bathrooms and the kitchen. Prior to our in person meeting with Marina, we were uncertain as to what to expect due to our inexperience with the interior design world and basis of knowledge which was pretty much limited to my being a regular viewer of Houzz and HGTV episodes . Upon meeting Marina, and hearing her thoughts as we walked through our home, we were immediately put at ease and reassured we had found the right person with the right vision for our home. The subsequent proposal she presented for each phase of our renovation just further reinforced this decision. Finding Marina and working with her has been a godsend, in addition to being immensely talented in design, she is so thoughtful in her approach, decision making process and respectful of budgetary concerns. She promptly responds to questions and has been invaluable in so many other areas. I am in awe of the breadth and depth of her knowledge, clearly gained through her decades of experience. We met Marina Case, the owner of Red Shutters when we were searching for a designer who could bring new color and design appropriate for our 200 year old home. She listened to us and adhered to our budget. She presented us with a range of beautiful choices for carpets, wall colors, window treatments and furniture. Marina did what a good designer should do: introduced design concepts and colors that we might not have considered on our own. Marina's design and office staff were great in communicating and follow up on clear specifications, prices, and timelines for completion. There were no surprises! We were especially pleased with the work done by the craftsmen Marina referred to us. The wall paper hanger, painter, upholsterer and carpet installers all showed up on when scheduled, were neat, courteous, and did excellent work. We are very happy with beautiful new rooms.

This was my first time working with a professional decorator and I admit I was very nervous. I did my research prior to hiring Marina and her team and was quite impressed with what she has accomplished. From the moment we met I felt like I was working with a longtime friend. The job given was to pretty much transform my living room, family room, dining room and kitchen as well as a few bedrooms. Additionally I needed to have all my ceiling lights mapped out as well as guidance on the location of several huge windows I wanted to install. I can easily get overwhelmed and feared my. life was going to be book upon books of swatches, catalogs etc but Marina listened to my direction and for each meeting brought a controlled selection for me to preview. She nailed it every single time. I think my favorite takeaway from working with her was she pushed me to step outside my comfort zone a few times and those are the pieces that I love the most. Never in my dreams would I think my home would be as stunning as it is. I miss working with Marina but in a way she will always be a part of my home. Another year and another wonderful experience with Marina Case and her team at Red Shutters. In the past we have had the pleasure of working with Marina on an exquisite bathroom renovation project (see previous review 12/19/19). Marina has introduced us to the beauty of magnificent rugs that add elements of color, coziness and quiet to our home. Our beloved home is a log home which is cozy, but wood is not the quietest of materials. Marina brought in a beautiful selection of vintage hand-woven rugs to consider. The gradual addition of rugs has transformed our living spaces making them quieter, more intimate, and uniquely ours. Our focal point this year was our sitting room; a small but main entrance space. We once again welcomed Marina’s exquisite eye and vision to refresh this room while maintaining flow and harmony with adjoining space. I met Marina when I purchased two historic houses in Warwick,NY and didn’t have any clue where to start my renovations,what’s important and has a big value and what is just an addition. Subsequently, Marina worked with me on many occasions on various pieces that I needed to add to my home or existing pieces that I needed to reupholster.. She listened, is thoughtful and made recommendations based on my budget and each piece turned out exquisitely. I have also seen other completed projects by Marina. She decorated the entire house of one of my neighbors, and her design at a high end spa in a luxury boutique hotel. Her work is fresh, modern but also classic and elegant. She is an absolute gem. Marina provided immediate expert advise for our project located states away from the Red Shutters. My fiance and I purchased our fixer upper home in Virginia last year. When we bought the house we knew we wanted to paint over the terrible original pinky tan color. Being the "do it yourselfers" that we are, we selected a dark blue grey color that we thought went nicely with the house. We hired the painters and bought the paint . I came home from work to learn that my dark blue grey was actually more of a bright blue green. I asked the painters to immediately stop and I called Marina at the Red Shutters. I sent Marina photos of the house and asked for her color recommendation. We picked out 3 colors and tested them on foam boards. Via Skype, I was able to show Marina the paint color against the stone, the roof and the windows. We ended up choosing a warm gold and have planned for brown gutters and a red door. Marina's expertise in knowing paint colors off hand as well as the Southern style made the color change quick and painless. My only wish is that I had called Marina before the blue was ever painted on.

Over the past five years Marina has overseen three room restoration projects at Liberty Hall Museum. Her eye for detail is amazing. All three rooms were to be restored in different historical time periods and Marina researched those time periods to create several plans for each room. She gave us wonderful options that between her opinions and the museum staff we were able to restore rooms to make sense for our visitors. All three rooms were overhauled from top to bottom; walls, curtains, rugs, and furniture all needed to either be recreated or restored. Marina always came through with great designs. She was always able to find the correct contractors for these projects, whether it was to put up wallpaper or recreate window treatments. Marina has gone above and beyond in our room restoration projects and we are looking forward to working with her on future projects.

I had no background when I entered Red Shutters, I just found them and went in. That was one of the luckiest days of my life! Marina and Laura are magic makers. They understood me from the start and made me feel comfortable as a first time customer. I had never used a designer and was concerned they would be too pushy -- not as all. They listened, suggested, and let me take the lead on what I wanted. Best of all, they did not steer me to items I could not afford. At one point they even said, "You have great taste, but you can't afford that material." Now that is not only a great designer but a great friend. This business is professional, creative, original, and easy to use. You can trust them in your home, with your personal space, and most importantly, with your comfort and contentment. They have your best interest in mind, and work toward it. I cannot recommend them highly enough. It's like working with family, only they are not annoying. I plan to use them for a long time to come.
