KitchenLab is a Chicago interior design firm that creates warm, inviting spaces for people who love their kitchens. Embracing the culture of hospitality, KitchenLab designs kitchens and adjacent spaces that allow for easy cooking, gathering, hosting and hanging out, creating complete environments so welcoming and comfortable, you don’t want to leave. We design complete kitchen environments, including dining areas, pantries, bathrooms and mudrooms, as needed. Our kitchen interiors incorporate a collage-like mix of layers, details and patina to make a space unique, comfortable and a complement to the home and client’s lifestyle. KitchenLab adds details you won’t find anywhere else into every design, such as hand-finished hardware, a vintage light, or unique molding. Space planning is critical to our designs, and we optimize the placement of appliances, cabinetry, walls, windows, doors and more. Typically, KitchenLab is the first in and last out on projects. Our goal is to create a seamless experience for our clients. We act as a design/build firm, managing the “build” portion by bringing on highly vetted architects, contractors, tradespeople or engineers as the project requires. We create beautiful, timeless kitchens in Chicago and the surrounding area.

They are very professional and made the entire experience amazing. The best part is that they clearly understood our requirements and budget. All I can say is it is very good.

Kate and team helped us with the design of 3.5 bathrooms, a built-in wet bar, some other built-ins, furniture layouts and choices, and various architectural and design issues for an addition and remodel of a 1906 house in Logan Square.
Kate went above and beyond in helping to manage contractor questions and troubleshoot install issues, well beyond what one would expect from a designer. But more than that, her design and style are just exceptional. She listened well to us, but also brought new ideas and concepts that we never would have considered. I wish we had brought KL in sooner and had allocated more budget to include them on more design aspects, more finish choices and more furniture planning. Everything they touched shines.
Hire them early on and listen to them.

Rebekah, Kate and Kat have been terrific to work with from beginning to end. They are immensely talented, creative and detail-oriented. They found solutions to what I thought were unsolvable problems, made suggestions that transformed my space and were responsive, kind and thoughtful at every turn. It is true that I no longer seem able to make a design decision without them, but that is to their credit.

As a self-described Houzz addict, I can say that your kitchen at Franklin in Chicago was fantastic. What a perfect example of transitional design. From the layout, to the choices of finishes, to the use of refrigerator columns - it's gorgeous. Will "borrow" many ideas for our upcoming kitchen remodel in Rochester, NY.

My husband and I reached out to 3 designers when we decided to remodel our kitchen. Once we met Rebekah, it was a done deal. She came into our home and spent time getting to know us, how we liked to live and what was most important to us. We couldn't describe our style or articulate what we were looking for but that's when she came in and did what she does best. She didn't pigeon-hole us into some cookie cutter design but would draw out inspiration one piece at a time. Some people like dwelling on the details of every decision in their home-we don't. Once Rebekah had a good idea of who we were and what our personalities were like, we gave her free reign to do her thing. And thank goodness we did because there is a reason she is an expert in her field. There is no way we would have been able to create the atmosphere she did and make our home as special at it is. What started out as a kitchen remodel turned into a design overhaul of the whole house---and I wouldn't change a thing! Now the only issue we have is that we need Rebekah's advice on everything: what sheets to order, what throw pillows work, what paint colors should we us. We've been spoiled with her designer's eye. She's basically our design guru for everything.

Rebekah is an incredible designer with skills far beyond decorating! We chose Rebekah after we knew we wanted to buy an old home that needed a lot of work. I had seen photos of her work on Houzz and felt very drawn to her style and unique composition of materials and design. Her kitchens are anything but cookie-cutter and they really stand out! When I met her, I could tell that she would really listen to our ideas and help us create our dream home. Rebekah helped us visit homes we were considering buying and gave us suggestions on what we could do with the space. When we found the home we decided to buy, I could tell that Rebekah knew this was truly the "one". She helped us in every step of the process. She collaborated with the architect, improved the plans and made them more user friendly and in-line with our vision, helped us communicate our wants and needs, accompanied me to the Mart and many stores in the city to pick unique tile, hardware, fixtures, appliances, baths and faucets, wallpaper, rugs, furniture, etc. You name it and she was behind it! She helped me sort through countless photos and ideas until we found what we were looking for. She and her team member Kristy create wonderful idea boards and computer drawings of your kitchen and bathroom so you can really get a sense of what the space will look like. Rebekah allowed me and my husband to be very involved, but I know she could also make great decisions for clients in they wanted to be "hands-off". Rebekah and Kristy collaborate well with other members working on the project, and she worked especially well with our contractor. Rebekah is a true professional and is talented beyond words. She is also great at mixing styles and "high/low" to help you achieve the look you want at a reasonable budget. Friends who come to our house our amazed at the craftsmanship and beauty of our kitchen, baths and the old vintage details that Rebekah brought back to life. Rebekah respected the vintage character of our home and helped us give our house a new life! We couldn't have done this without her and I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to build a kitchen or bath of their dreams, and especially to people doing extensive work on the majority of their home. She is the full package and her talent is remarkable! We are so thankful to Rebekah and Kristy for the enthusiasm and countless hours they spent working with us and on our home!

Kitchen Lab is, hands down, our favorite in Chicago. We are a home design retailer and are privileged to work with some of the city's best designers. Rebekah and the KitchenLab staff continue to amaze us with their creativity. Plus, they are a true delight to work with on any project. Can't recommend them highly enough!

We worked with Rebekah Zaveloff of KitchenLab this year to remodel our vintage coop. The project included remodel of the kitchen, 2 full baths and a powder room. Rebekah also worked with us on space planning as well as fixtures and finish selections. Throughout the process Rebekah was very organized, conscious (and diligent) of our budget and schedule; while maintaining a friendly and warm attitude. This is our 5th house remodel but the first time we worked with Rebekah and her team. She is very creative not only at problem solving but coming up with ideas that helped create a home unique to us. I would highly recommend her as well as use her again.

We hired KitchenLab to redo a new construction condo - we were downsizing from a 3000+ sq ft house to an 1850 sq ft space and every inch counted! We redesigned/gutted the kitchen and 1 bath and were able to start from scratch. We also redid a second bath but needed to integrate some existing elements. Rebekah and Kristy also designed cabinetry for 2 rooms in addition to the kitchen... our office and laundry room. Rebekah and Kristy worked with me to completely furnish and accesorize the rest of the condo - from suggestions for floorplans and places to look for furniture - to listening to me obsess over paint colors and fabric choices - to "styling" the main living space - to meeting us at an art gallery to find art - to responding to my lengthy emails seeking input and opinions...
We knew we wanted to work with a kitchen/bath designer who could/would do more than just kitchen and baths since our kitchen is open to the living and dining areas and the place is not large and I wanted a cohesive look and feel for the whole apartment. And, I wanted to work with one person instead of multiple people. From my experience, that was not easy to find... most interior designers don't do kitchens and baths and most kitchen designers don't do "whole house" projects.
I actually found Rebekah on Houzz... I admired her style from the pics of kitchens she had done - and I watched a video of her talking about tile and knew then that she was the person for us - she came across as someone I could feel comfortable with, which was important to me. I didn't want to be intimidated by the person I was going to work with - and hoped for this experience to be fun.
From the beginning, Rebekah and Kristy were very easy to talk with and very interested in understanding what my husband and I wanted, liked, and disliked. It was clear that they were viewing this as a collaborative process/project, which was just what we wanted. Rebekah has a great eye for, and love of, design. She thinks out of the box and loves a good challenge. She is not focused on the Merchandise Mart as are many designers we know - she prefers to mix things from many sources for an eclectic, organic and lived-in feel/look.
We were also very lucky to work closely with Kristy. She not only has a wonderful design sense, but, is supremely organized, detail oriented - and always calm and patient. I worked with Kristy and Rebekah for 9+ months and thru it all, despite the stresses inherent with this type of project, had fun! Rebekah and Kristy are smart, creative, funny - and seem to have boundless energy. It was clear all the way thru the project that they truly wanted my husband and me to be happy and worked with us on design and decisions and contractor issues until we were... every decision and detail, both large and small. I loved the time spent with them and continue to keep in touch!

Rebekah was wonderful to work with! Our home was built in 1964 and Rebekah worked with my husband and I to completely redesign our kitchen and to create a wet bar and a butler's pantry. Our finished kitchen, beautiful and new (and in a new location!), still suits the personality and character of the house.
Rebekah's enthusiasm for kitchen design lives in every step of the process- from envisioning how the space will be used to the final moment when the kitchen is ready to be lived in! She has this amazing ability to visualize the direction of the project immediately, but then has the patience to explain and take you on the design adventure with her.
Rebekah took our initial ideas and desires for our kitchen, refined and honed them into a cohesive and finished product that we love. Her attention to detail in design and expertise with space planning created a kitchen that is both beautiful and functional for our family's lifestyle.
The custom cabinets are great quality and we were pleased with the cabinet company's dedication to deliver a perfect product.
Rebekah loves lighting and created a lighting plan that included everything; task lights, natural light and decorative lighting, with great success! She also has an incredible and indepth knowledge of tile; designs, sources, variety of materials and quality.
Much of our satisfaction is from the overall way Rebekah has layered new and vintage, metals and wood so that our kitchen and wetbar look classic, are use-able, and still feel unique to us.
Rebekah's interest in design is infectious. She knows how to get the job done in a timely manor and she helps lead you down the path of what could be a daunting task for anyone on their own, but loving what she does, she succeeds in making it fun for everyone involved. She was completely respectful of our budget parameters and she worked so well with our contractors. We would recommend Rebekah to anyone looking for a kitchen remodel.

After spending hours with my nose in home design magazines and sleepless nights surfing the internet to give me inspiration for the home we were designing in the Texas hill country, I came across Houzz and Rebekah Zaveloff. Each and every kitchen I loved just so happened to be designed by Rebekah -- but I thought the geography would make it impossible to have her help us design our kitchen. Not true! We had a long conversation over the phone and decided between phone calls and computers she could help us get the classic kitchen design that is hard to find in new construction in Central Texas! We are about 4 weeks from moving into our home and the kitchen design and material selections are just perfection! Down to the paint, hardware and sink and fixture selections, Rebekah was able to pull our vision together and make our long-distance design project a huge success!

As a dedicated vintage home lover I came across a house several years ago with a real estate agent when I was making a move to the suburbs. Even though I always love victorian homes, there was one house that I saw that would have been the right price and the right neighborhood but I quickly dismissed it because it was so dark and so dreary. We eventually found a (vintage) house in that same suburb and then a few years later I happened to be invited to a social event at the dark, dreary house. I, therefore, had the opportunity to see the "before" and "after" (which was really "before Rebekah" and "after Rebekah") and I was blown away. What amazed me was how Rebekah was able to take that very heavy, dark victorian home and make it seem fun, youthful, light, and airy while completely respecting its architecture. I knew this person was the person I would want to work with if I ever had a design project. A few years later that opportunity came up when my family moved homes again. I tracked Rebekah down through the internet because I had remembered seeing the house that I visited in a design publication.
We hired Rebekah to help us design a new kitchen, update 2 bathrooms and help us decorate an urban victorian home that we purchased The kitchen design involved a fair bit of structural work because of a wall that we took down between the dining room and the kitchen. No detail of the project was overlooked: Rebekah's understanding of the engineering, electric, plumbing, and carpentry issues matched her creativity and the depth of her knowledge repeatedly impressed the often -slightly- chauvinistic tradesmen. Furthermore, Rebekah's suggestions were always mindful of cost and budget.
It was great to finally work with the talent behind that beautiful home in the suburbs and I have learned so much about design as a result. I love everything that we have done to this house but what has been equally lovely about this project is Rebekah herself: she is so smart, so creative and just so much fun.

We used Rebekah Zaveloff from Kitchen Lab for our recent kitchen addition. She is a very talented kitchen designer with a great eye for detail and an extremely strong ability for space planning. We were impressed with her creativity in coming up with a floor plan for our kitchen addition, while at the same time converting our existing space into a mudroom/office/butler pantry area that transitioned smoothly into the new space. She offered close to 50 different renderings before we came up with the perfect floor plan. Rebekah is also very knowledgeable on materials and resources. She introduced us to many new materials and companies. She has tons of experience which allowed her to incorporate many of her ideas into our kitchen. Her 3D color renderings provided us with vivid drawings of what our kitchen would end up looking like, so there were no surprises upon completion. She was very respectful of our tastes and needs and worked well with our contractor. We were able to achieve our dream kitchen with her help!
