Ten Stars! We just completed a major renovation of our backyard with SouthBay Landscape and Design, and we could not be more pleased. Our new backyard is gorgeous, and the details of our experience tell the story. We worked closely with Danny, the on-site supervisor, who is a top-notch professional. He knows his plants and hardscape, pays attention to every detail, and manages his crew with great efficiency. The crew worked as hard as any I’ve ever seen, and they did everything—digging out enormous tree roots, setting flagstone for our patio, installing irrigation and lighting, moving boulders—you name it. They showed up every day and even worked several Saturdays to get the job finished on time and before we had to travel. These guys were terrific, and I can’t thank them enough for the tremendous effort they put into both the demolition and the complete recreation of our backyard. Marcus, the office manager, was also great to work with. He took us out to select our patio stone, river rock, and boulders, and was patient and generous with his time as we made decisions throughout the project. If you have a concern or question, call the office; they respond right away! As we watched the project progress over the weeks, my husband and I often commented to each other on the quality of the work and the care being taken with every part of the job. We are grateful to every one of the men who worked in our yard and deeply appreciate their hard work, skill, and professionalism. I recommend SouthBay Landscape and Design enthusiastically and without reservation. They do top-quality work, and they were a pleasure to have at our home. One additional note: we also used the landscape designer they recommended, Dawn, and she was excellent. We are thrilled with the beautiful backyard they all helped create. We recently hired Southbay Landscaping and Design for a backyard upgrade, and they completely transformed our yard into a beautiful, relaxing oasis that we love spending time in. The team was incredibly reliable, highly communicative, and deeply detail-oriented throughout the entire project. Their craftsmanship is top-tier, and the high-quality work truly speaks for itself. Southbay Design and Landscaping was recommended by my landscape designer to implement her plans for replacing the old falling-apart deck in our backyard and to do some landscaping and hardscaping, including lighting, a fountain, pavers, garden beds, irrigation, and a fire pit. My husband and I could not be happier with their high-quality and detailed work. The new deck was not only laid out beautifully, but extremely well constructed. We were particularly impressed by the sub-structure of the deck, where no corners were cut. It is heavy-duty, with meticulous care taken to the waterproofing and drainage underneath. Matt’s crew consisted of hard working and skilled professionals, all of whom were delightful to work with. I am sure that we will enjoy our lovely backyard for many years to come, and I could not thank Southbay more or recommend them more highly.

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping. We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing “landscaping” from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she’s great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can’t say the same for any of the other contractors we’ve worked with (and we’re actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Marcus, and Danny offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking “if you step in that mud, you’re going to lose a boot” type of rain here). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn’t easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you’d know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you’d seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It’s been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we’re still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from literal demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you’re looking for landscapers, these are your guys.

South Bay handled our entire landscape renovation, covering everything from hardscape and softscape to lighting, irrigation, and drainage. They also built custom features such as a round platform for our circular bench, a foot-washing station, installed a basketball hoop, front courtyard and anchors for net games. It was a long, detailed project, and they truly delivered. We’re extremely pleased with the overall experience. One of the things we appreciated most was how independently and efficiently the team worked. They required very little supervision, yet everything was completed with care and attention to detail. Matt was always responsive—any time we texted, he made sure to reply promptly, which gave us a lot of confidence throughout the process. When we weren’t sure about the fence stain color and wood quality, Matt and the crew came out on a Saturday to go over it with us and help settle the details. He also offered great design suggestions, like adding lighting inside the double sided fence, which transformed the look and feel of our frontyard at night. Danny, the project superintendent, oversaw the entire renovation. He was friendly, communicative, and consistently made sure the work aligned with the design. He also suggested improvements when he saw opportunities, yet remained flexible and always listened to our preferences. We’ve already received compliments from neighbors who’ve noticed the transformation. Thanks to South Bay, our backyard is now beautiful, functional, and truly a space we enjoy. Southbay did a very big job at my former home that was wonderful so I employed them again at my new location. I needed a new deck, lighting, and a fountain repaired and rebuilt. The result was outstanding. The deck is well built, with attention to all details. The lighting has added an exceptional nuance to the deck and fountain creating an absolutely lovely area. I am so pleased.

Southbay was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. The design team spent the time to understand what we wanted, made helpful suggestions, and was crystal clear about costs and timelines. Construction started promptly and proceeded with a hitch, even though we made a couple of mid-stream adjustments. An easy experience.

Southbay did a complete backyard remodel project for us in 2022, with a design by Julie Orr. It was a professionally completed job, on time and on budget. I called them this year to check on the irrigation system, and it is still working as designed. Very pleased with the responsible follow up. Shout out to Marcus in the office, who fielded my questions, and to Sammy in the field, for re-explaining the system and fixing a front yard sprinkler in addition. Thank you!

We had Southbay install a French drain for us along with a new patio with pavers. Julie Orr, who works with Southbay on projects initially made up a great design for us, and Southbay did a phenomenal job with the installation. Matt visited our site initially and spent a lot of time asking us questions to understand what the project entailed. He provided suggestions (that turned out great), and during the entire project, Danny and the crew were very professional, efficient, attentive to detail, and always cleaned up really well after each work day. They were a pleasure to work with. The installation of the pavers was meticulously done and the finished patio looks absolutely beautiful. We are really, really happy with the work. We've also had a few heavy rains after the installation of the French drain and we are very happy that we had it installed. Southbay really made sure we were happy with the end result and took the time to answer any questions that we had. Even though we didn't have Southbay install any plants, on the last day, they went through and trimmed cleaned up some of the existing trees and bushes just to make the garden look really lovely, which was kind and unexpected, and we really appreciated it. Southbay does great work, and we would definitely hire them again for a future project.
