We feel incredibly lucky to have found Staci to create a lighting design for our apartment in Brooklyn. We read a lot of reviews before reaching out to Staci --- she has a bunch of very happy clients. We are now among them! We hired Staci to design a lighting plan for our Brooklyn apartment. There was very little overhead lighting at all in the apartment before and what we did have was poorly placed, ugly and not very useful. We had placed lamps everywhere to compensate but that cost a lot of floor space. Fast forward to now and our apartment is transformed. The lighting is beautiful and highly functional in our everyday lives. The fixtures Staci selected and their placement is just perfect. I purchased an apartment in NYC that needed a full overhaul of the lighting situation. The bedroom had no lighting (just a outlet with a switch), the living room and kitchen had old track lights, and all of it was a very 70's/80's style in terms or both appearance and yellow-tint color. "Depressing" and "Smoker's Teeth Yellow" are the words that best describes it. Staci helped change all that! We redid the whole space's lighting. Due to building restrictions recessed lighting was not an option, but she worked around that. Staci toured the space with me, took input from me (and my interior designer) on what I was looking for, then came back to show off the components that we could in-person to see how they'd really look and cast light. The end result is wall sconces in both the bedroom and living room, new fixtures in the kitchen, entry way, breakfast counter, hallways, and bathroom. During the process Staci was easy to work with, showed off her extensive knowledge in residential lighting, and kept my budget in mind. I'd absolutely work with her again and recommend her to anyone looking to update or replace the lighting in their space.

Staci’s lighting design is one of my favorite additions to my apartment, which was completely gutted. It was such a joy to work with someone who is a consummate professional and knows her field inside and out. Staci listened to what I wanted and immediately knew the products to suggest and plan to design. Though that sounds simple, it is not. The efficiency was as delightful as the end product. I have been told that I drive contractors crazy with my desire for fine detail. Working with Staci was a study in contrast. There were a few items I was not 100% certain about but decided to trust her conviction. I am so grateful I did. The art lights she selected draw attention to the art rather than the light. I appreciate her eye for the smallest detail and respect for my sensitivity to cold, white LED light. I cannot recommend her strongly enough!

We knew we were in over our heads when we decided to replace all the lighting in our 1 bedroom NYC apartment. Our lighting vendor highly recommended Staci to design a lighting plan. Being in the design industry ourselves, we know the importance of hiring experts in the field to make smart and beautiful recommendations. Staci's expertise and influence in the lighting world is extensive! Staci set up an initial call to review our needs, get a sense of our style and lay out a clear roadmap of next steps. She made 3 visits to our space: an initial walk through, then a visit to test out a few different lighting recommendations/requirements (color temp and lights) and meet with our GC/electrician. Then a final visit with our GC once construction began. Staci never wasted time and was always well prepared (carrying 6 bags of materials for us to go through, climbing ladders, testing color temp in each room, prompt responses). Her services more than paid for itself as the lighting/electrical part of our renovation was so smooth. Her creative recommendations, even ones I wasn't 100% certain about, proved to be spot on as we are enjoying our lighting so much!

We recommend Staci wholeheartedly. She redid our entire apartment lighting and we couldn't be happier. Backstory: We live in a garden apartment in Brooklyn with very few windows and low ceilings. What's more, the windows we do have are mostly blocked by surrounding buildings and trees. Our previous harsh living room / kitchen recessed lights perpetually bothered my eyes, and the lights in our bedrooms were woefully dim. After some internet searches, we hired Staci for an initial consultation to get a sense of what she could offer in terms of lighting options. After the initial visit, Staci sent various options to solve our lighting problems. I must say, she had an amazing ability to find beautiful, quality lights at our budget. Then, Staci brought us actual light fixtures with her go-to electrician to physically show us how various lights would look in our apartment -- overhead, sconces, ceiling fixtures, etc. Like, she literally showed up with tons of equipment so that we could actually experience the quality of the lights in-person before we committed. Staci listened to our desires and recommended options in line with our goals. We decided to move forward with her recommended lighting options and, again, couldn't be happier. We have new, dim-able, perfectly placed lighting and gorgeous fixtures. Everyone who has visited our apartment is enchanted by our new lights. More importantly, we have lighting that makes us genuinely happy. Staci was super responsive to all of our questions and concerns throughout the process. Staci helped to light up our NYC apartment. Her work was very impactful. We ended up with a lighting set up quite a bit different from what we would have come up on our own, and what we ended up doing is SOO much better. We also enjoyed working with her because she works very efficiently. I also appreciated her fee model - its a strict hourly rate (worth every penny) so you don't have to worry that she would be nudging you towards the most expensive lighting fixtures to earn some % commission, as is the case with so many other designers. Working with Staci was a fantastic experience! Staci worked within my budget and style to transform my new apartment. She was incredibly responsive, both on the phone and via email, particularly during the height of COVID. I didn't even realize that I need architectural lighting design until I couldn't live without her!

We had recently redecorated our apartment and needed new lighting to complement and enhance the decor. We were worried the job was too small for her, but she treated us like VIPs. She listened carefully to our vision and then made it all happen. She made many suggestions, introducing us to lighting concepts that were perfect for us. Just as one example, she pointed out that our artwork was poorly illuminated, and made some simple changes to our lighting that produced a magical effect. Staci works with an incredibly good electrician, and their coordination to get things done was seamless. We had wandered through some lighting stores on our own and originally thought we would just do the job ourselves. But after seeing what a professional like Staci can do, we realize doing it on our own would have been a terrible mistake. We are thrilled with what Staci has done for us!

About 6 months ago the halogen art lighting system in our master bedroom suddenly stopped working. I initially thought the dimmer switch was the problem so I called our building’s go to electrician, one of the best in NYC. They determined that the dimmer was not the problem but could not actually offer a straightforward solution. There was much talk about replacing the very expensive system, rewiring, junction boxes opening ceilings and so forth. I then turned to the internet and contacted a lighting designer with pretty good reviews. His initial assessment sounded promising but ultimately he admitted he was baffled by our system and could not figure out a way forward. Back to the internet I went and I found Staci Ruiz. Her reviews were impressive but by this time I was a skeptic, to say the least! Staci visited our apartment and immediately diagnosed the problem and provided a simple straightforward solution. She arranged for her “A team” electrician to visit and confirm her diagnosis and solution. Staci and her electrician both expressed complete confidence that my problem would be solved and I would have a beautiful new LED art light system. I remained a skeptic. Long story short, we now have an absolutely perfect system, just the right “temperature” to highlight the art and perfectly light the room. I absolutely, positively recommend Staci for any and all lighting design issues anyone could have. She’s a delight to work with and a true professional.

I am a NY-based interior designer and began working with Staci Ruiz in 2019 and continue to involve her in nearly all of my projects, especially those that involve a renovation. Architectural lighting is such a specialized area of expertise, and in the past 10 years, the product offering seems to be ever-changing. It's extremely challenging for any designer or architect to keep up with the latest products. Staci knows her product offering inside and out and only specs fixtures that are quality. The last thing you'd want is to have a client call after the project wraps up and learn that a fixture failed! She brings a fresh perspective to each new project and offers creative solutions. In New York, I feel each apartment has its constraints. Low concrete slab ceiling in a post-war building? Large open floor loft with little natural light in the center? She works around these issues seamlessly. She gets clients excited about lighting with her product demos. She works efficiently with her time and collaborates with the team involved (designer, architect, contractor, electricians). And time and time again has proven resourceful to work within any budgetary constraints. I can honestly say that my projects look and feel better at the end because of Staci. Designers - get her involved in your next project!

Staci did a wonderful job on our project. Fifteen years after renovating our apartment, my wife and I decided it was time to fix the poor lighting we'd selected during the renovation. Our lighting situation had been bad but tolerable before COVID but was unsustainable with all of us working and doing school from home. Staci visited our apartment, bringing many many ideas, several sample fixtures, and a terrific electrician, and within days came up with a plan for lighting our main spaces. She worked with the electrician on planning and cost, and ensured the work was completed on schedule and beautifully (all, happily, while we were out of town). The difference in the apartment is amazing — it really looks terrific. I recommend her without hesitation. Great great work.

Staci is phenomenal to work with. She has thorough knowledge of the diverse options in architectural lighting, especially in the most up-to-date LED space that we are all moving towards. She knows the vendors and understands what the lights can and cannot do. She is willing to educate, but not overwhelm. We asked her to help us update the lighting throughout our 1500 sq ft brownstone condo, and I'll admit we started the project thinking we would need to just install a ton of recessed lights. Staci gave us recommendations that were so much better, highlighting our artwork and library bookshelves and giving my office space some much needed light at just the right color temperature. I found Staci Ruiz when I needed to replace the halogen "high hats" in my one-bedroom apartment. Thinking I could do this on my own, I went to Home Depot to simply pick out some LED lights. What I found was way too many types (colors, sizes, etc.) of LED lights to be comfortable that I would be able to select the right lighting on my own. In comes a genius -- STACI! She knew all the latest manufacturers, sizes, colors, temperatures to transform my nice one-bedroom into a Architectural Digest masterpiece. She helped me with indirect light and accent lighting for art, which transformed my apartment into something very special. In addition to her amazing eye for what works in a given space and command of how lighting can change and affect the mood of a space, she is cost conscious and has a no B.S. style that makes you feel like you are getting every bit of value for every dollar you spend on her services. Her coordination with the electricians is seamless. I will never install another light without her advice!

If you are looking for a very knowledgeable fast talking, fast moving lighting designer, Staci would probably be a good fit. But be aware that she has her rules, and if you’re unable to follow them, game over. Not a great way to do business. I had a consult with Staci and was impressed. For the next step, Staci required the presence of the head electrician. The general contractor’s electrical sub refused. When I called Staci to try to work out a solution, e.g. I write up the installation specs, which I have done, I was told “I have my method, I have used it for 30 years, etc.” No empathy, no compromise, no attempt to find a solution. I then asked Staci if she could recommend another lighting designer, since they are difficult to find for small projects. She gave me the name of a long established, well known store, which I had been to and whose service and reviews are uniformly awful. I was stunned, Staci then started to talk about issues with LEDs - and I hung up. I know how tricky lighting is, which is why I’m hiring someone. (The electrician, realizing that her refusal to do a site visit was costing her the job called Staci and lied to her about my site visit request.. She also lied to me about what I had said! I told the GC that I wanted the electrician off the project.) I don’t fault Staci for thinking this is aggravation she doesn’t need. I fault her for her rigidity, her unwillingness to try to find solutions - and for referring me to a bad vendor.

Staci has impeccable taste and was so easy to work with. She spent a lot of time at our house getting to know our space and made excellent suggestions. She is not only an expert about design but also about the technical aspects of lighting. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a very artistic and expert designer.

Staci Ruiz is such a unicorn. She and her awesome electrician sidekick Danny W and his team worked their lighting wizardry on my condo- finding the perfect solution for every problem and suggesting solutions to problems I didn't realize I had. Not only is my apartment now blissfully illuminated so that I can read where previously I couldn't, the fixtures chosen are tasteful and fit with the vibe of the space and the light emitted in such a way as to bathe the apartment in a beautiful glow. I am a tough grader, so four stars really means very good job. Staci had three separate challenges in lighting my apartment: 11 ft ceilings, the interplay of interior space lighting and floor to ceiling Windows, and then my desire to create an Art Wall installation for my rock and roll posters. How far down should the chandelier be? How many watts do I need here? Is that a good quality supplier? How do I get "natural" light into this dark space? What do I need? What do I do? All these are actual questions I had. Just leave it to Staci. Best bang for the buck. She is super efficient and totally spot-on (pun intended but still...). You can fret over it forever or you can just get Staci. Just put yourself in her hands. Super service with tons of experience. I know this sounds like an ad, but that doesn't matter. I found Staci online and, based on looking at her prevous work and online reviews, decided to work with her on my lighting project. I live in a 1000 sq ft open loft and wanted an upgrade to my decade-old lighting - a mix of track lighting and a hodge-podge of pendant area lighting. My overall goal was less intrusive lighting with well-chosen design elements that complemented the space. Working with Staci on the design and fixture choices was a pleasure. I like being quite involved in the design process including choices of fixtures and Staci was both flexible in her approach and also presented me with choices that I never would have found or considered on my own. I also have nothing but good things to say about her electrician Danny. I've had lot's of very mixed experiences working with contracters and Danny and his team definitely are at the top of the quality continuuum. There was quite a bit of breaking through walls and celings before installing the new fixtures, and Danny was senstive to my living in the apartment during the process. He was very committed to making sure I was satisfied with everything and even came back after the final installation to fine-tune the electrical set up. All-in-all, a great experience and I'd highly recommmend both Staci and Danny if you're looking to upgrade your lighting design.

Staci was extremely professional, knowledgable and efficient. She came in on a project when the floorplan was already done, and recommended wonderful lighting solutions. We live in 1960s post war building with low ceilings and we can't drill into the ceiling to put new lights in. Hence the challenge was to suggest lighting solutions that would be wall based, yet would still provide excellent light. Staci was incredible in suggesting solutions that work really well for us.

We were in complete dark (literally) with choosing our lighting for our complete renovation project. Staci Ruiz is a superbly creative lighting designer who has helped me multiple times. Whether designing one room or many, Staci can look at a wall/ceiling and intuitively know how many lights are required and where they should be placed. Staci figured out exactly what we wanted and delivered wonderfully. We chose to use Staci as a consultant for our apartment built in 1912. The apartment can be very dark and we needed to be sure that the lighting was capable of eliminating the living in a cave feel. Staci's excellent advice has permitted us to brighten up the rooms with absolutely gorgeous fixtures for a price we would not have been able to get on our own. Staci accompanied us on several excusions to look at lighting fixtures and she was able to understand our taste and needs. I highly recommend Staci and I feel that what we paid for her advice and the fixtures was worth every cent.

Staci Ruiz is a must have for any lighting work. She is a pleasure to work, very knowledgeable and has terrific ideas. Staci came to our home immediately upon contact and instantly put us at ease. She listened to our needs/budget and worked directly with our planner and contractor to develop a well thought out plan and ensure that the installation went smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with the lighting in our kitchen. She came up with the perfect design and products for both overhead and under cabinet lighting. She is very helpful in creating cost effective approriate solutons from the High end design to the economical developement apartment. There is much to say about Staci, and all of it is positive. She is knowledgeable, conscientious and has excellent taste. We were collaborating on a space that, while beautiful, presented some structural challenges, and Staci rose to the occasion, choosing fixtures that added depth, warmth and personality to an otherwise cool, sterile environment. Additionally, Staci is committed to client comfort. She consistently makes herself available when it comes to addressing the needs of her clients (and fellow contractors-- I'm guilty of sending late night panic e-mails, to which she responded with aplomb). In short, Staci is the consummate professional, and I'm fortunate to have learned much by observing her in action. If my good fortune continues, we'll be working together again in the near future.

I have used Staci for both residential and commercial projects, and she is excellent at figuring out just what is needed within a reasonable budget. Much better than if I tried by myself; I have had several unsolicited compliments on our lighting designs...something a tenant or buyer sees first thing.
