The owners of this beautiful historic farmhouse had been painstakingly restoring it bit by bit. One of the last items on their list was to create a wrap-around front porch to create a more distinct and obvious entrance to the front of their home. Aside from the functional reasons for the new porch, our client also had very specific ideas for its design. She wanted to recreate her grandmother’s porch so that she could carry on the same wonderful traditions with her own grandchildren someday. Key requirements for this front porch remodel included: - Creating a seamless connection to the main house. - A floorplan with areas for dining, reading, having coffee and playing games. - Respecting and maintaining the historic details of the home and making sure the addition felt authentic. Upon entering, you will notice the authentic real pine porch decking. Real windows were used instead of three season porch windows which also have molding around them to match the existing home’s windows. The left wing of the porch includes a dining area and a game and craft space. Ceiling fans provide light and additional comfort in the summer months. Iron wall sconces supply additional lighting throughout. Exposed rafters with hidden fasteners were used in the ceiling. Handmade shiplap graces the walls. On the left side of the front porch, a reading area enjoys plenty of natural light from the windows. The new porch blends perfectly with the existing home much nicer front facade. There is a clear front entrance to the home, where previously guests weren’t sure where to enter. We successfully created a place for the client to enjoy with her future grandchildren that’s filled with nostalgic nods to the memories she made with her own grandmother. "We have had many people who asked us what changed on the house but did not know what we did. When we told them we put the porch on, all of them made the statement that they did not notice it was a new addition and fit into the house perfectly.” – Homeowner

We painted the exterior of this home in Saratoga, CA. It was built in 1947 and had a traditional feel to it. We went with a cheery yellow (Glidden "Jonquil"). We painted the front door Benjamin Moore "Heritage Red", and the trim Behr "Divine Pleasure". We also used Benjamin Moore "Chrome Green" to outline the windows. The colors we chose pumped up the Feng Shui for the clients. The home faced South (Fire/Fame), so painting the front door red pumped up the reputation of the owners. The homeowner wanted this bonus room area to function as additional storage and create a boutique dressing room for their daughter since she only had smaller reach in closets in her bedroom area. The project was completed using a white melamine and traditional raised panel doors. The design includes double hanging sections, shoe & boot storage, upper ‘cubbies’ for extra storage or a decorative display area, a wall length of drawers with a window bench and a vanity sitting area. The design is completed with fluted columns, large crown molding, and decorative applied end panels. The full length mirror was a must add for wardrobe checks. A multipurpose kitchen island designed for large gatherings of friends and family which occurs often. It also provides a huge flat surface for large bolts of fabric for sewing purposes. And mainly, the island is a gathering place for the family to eat, talk, play musical instruments. Upper cabinet storage was eliminated to allow large windows so the island then became the main storage area. Transforming this house into a modern "Cascadian" style throughout. Fir timbers, steel, rock, stone, dark stained wood flooring all became the main ingredients.

What was once an unfinished basement is now a perfect getaway and space to entertain. The main focus is the projection screen and cozy couches for the family to gather and watch movies in surround sound. Just a few feet away, a kitchenette provides some refreshments and food. This space also allows plenty of room to throw a party and this kitchenette can store lots of food and drink. Down the hall we have a rec room with a ping pong table. Across from that is a gym so the homeowners can continue to live a healthy lifestyle. On the other side of the basement there is a playroom that can easily double as a guest room. It's a great spot for the kids to play and keep their toys all in one place. Next door is a "jack and jill" bathroom that is appropriate for all ages. Walk in the door and you'll be wowed by the mosaic tile accent that greets you from inside the shower. We're happy to hear the family is enjoying the space and have enjoyed a few parties!
