Yep, that's what I do--I'll leave it out for about an hour every day and gradually move up from there. Succulents are generally pretty hardy to sun.

It depends on what time of year you are doing it...

If you are starting to bring plants outdoors after spending the winter inside, then sun acclimation is not important as long as it is not warm. Sun alone will not burn sun-loving plants that are not used to it..but the combination of sun + heat + stagnant air will cause sunburn.

If you have a new plant or are starting to expose a plant to sun during the warm part of the year, then you need to do it gradually. A few hours of morning sun at first, for a few days. Then a little more for a few more days. By 10-14 days it should be enough for the majority of plants. Don't rush - there is nothing to gain.

I have seen plants become scorched outdoors in April, heat is not necessary. This (and some other reasons) has lead me to believe that there are two forms of scorch; one caused by heat and one caused by ultraviolet radiation.

The risk depends much on where you live and what plants you have, some can be brought outside almost immediately, others may require a month before they have acclimatised. I would start on the safe side at 30-60 minutes exposure time, several hours can be way too much depending on the plants and how they are placed. You will figure out later what is most suitable for you.

Note: the protection that develops does not spread to unexposed areas on the plant. So you need to either continuously turn the plant or make sure it remains at the same angle towards the sun at all time.
