I was boasting to the spouse about cleaning my plants with the steam cleaner and she says something to the affect "You dumb klutz, it describes in the manual that came with the steam cleaner how to use it for cleaning plants." Oh. Well. vbg etc.

If you’re seeing water or white marks on your cooktop, we’d recommend using a product called CeramaBryte. This cleaning product is great for keeping your cooktop clean. When using CeramaBryte, we’d recommend using a microfiber cloth to avoid scratching your cooktop’s finish. You can then use a dry cloth or paper towel to remove all of the cleaning residue. There is no need to rinse; however, it is important that you do not heat the cooktop until the cream has been cleaned off. Hope this helps!

WOW someone posted on this from 5 years ago bringing this back into my feed. So much has changed since. In fact I recently posted a new dilemma that I’d love input on (link below). Attached are pics of my garden as it looks now. @Angie Charm I believe this is a dwarf blue spruce. I don’t know about trimming the spruces back to control size, I wouldn’t think that is recommended though. I don’t recall the paver info. @tgb1...have a hardwood flooring professional measure the thickness of the floors before deciding what to do. If they have enough meat on them (they have enough wood above the tongue...should be 3mm or MORE) to refinish then you TELL the flooring professional about the Murphy's Oil....It may or may not be possible to get a new finish on these. The only thing they can do is try a test patch and leave it alone for a few weeks (pick a bedroom that no one uses). If it works, keep going. If it doesn't (signs of pealing, bubbling, white lines between planks, etc) then stop and reconsider. To get a new finish on a floor that has had Murphy's Oil soap used, it normally takes a few more passes with the sanding machine (to get further away from the contaminant called "oil soap"). That means this old floor would need 4mm - 5mm left to really be sure that a new finish can be put down. The floor is ALMOST 100 years old. It is past the 80 year life span of most of these hardwood floors. It made it to 100 years because it ready for removal (that last refinish was probably the last kick at the can for this floor). Be prepared to remove this floor. It is done. It has lived and been abused for longer than and entire human generation. It has done what it was put there to do....60-80 years of being a floor. You might want to ask about hard wax oil finishes. They MIGHT be able to be put down over Murphy's...but I don't know if it makes a difference.

I like Method. I use the hand soap, all purpose cleaner and bathroom cleaner. Gave up on Bounce years ago when I discovered that it made me itch like crazy. I can't breath with Fantastic. 401 is much better for me, but I only use that on heavily greasy items because Method failed. I am sensitive to certain perfumes. Back in the '70's I loved Charlie perfume, until I realized that it was making me hyperventilate. These days, I almost never wear perfume (I mean one or two nights a year, and it's very light) because so many people are allergic to the scents. Only use deodorant and Johnson's Baby Powder (non-talc) the rest of the time. Since getting granite counter tops for the first time ever, will switch to a spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of Dawn.

Live plants, I hold my steam cleaner wand about 12-14 inches from the leaves and wash off the dust. I tested it on my forearm like a young mother testing the babies bottle for correct temperature.

I boasted of having discovered this myself and my spouse says the procedure was already described in the manual.

Oh, well. Nevermind. Apparently you too are unimpressed.

I think your wife is lucky to have a hubby that will help out w the housework; and so creative as to think of using the steam cleaner wand for this. Never mind that it is in the manual. I never read them (other than assembly upon occasion).

You did discover it yourself since you did not read the manual, so your wife sounds like she's got an attitude problem. Had my this happended to me w my hubby, I would have said "what a great idea and how nice of you to think of it!"

Well, the fact that you can use a steamer on live plants is news to me. I stick mine in the bathtub and turn the shower on or hose them down with the garden hose outside.

I agree w/lynne sjo. I would have fainted from shock if my husband had done this and then thanked him for telling me about it! I'm a florist & a gardener & in a gazillion years I would not have thought of using a steam cleaner on real plants so kudos to you for sharing this info w/us!!!! I've had a steam cleaner for yrs & never saw this in the manual. Thanks again for the info!

I used to put all my plants in the bathtub and turn on the shower (cool water) to give them a nice bath. I don't own a steam cleaner, but I am now very tempted. It's going on my Christmas Wish List, along with the Amazon "kindle" electronic book reader.
