Need help picking paint colors for living room with poor natural light
Comments (18)Wow! I sort of feel like I have to defend my suggestion! First I am suggesting a very soft muted golden tone. Second since the room opens into the kitchen and you will need to paint a sheen in the kitchen and satin is adequate, carrying that sheen into the living room is not inappropriate. Third your concept of matte and shiny are exactly opposite of the way that they are usually seen and used. Bright/shiny always looks bigger than matte/dull because shiny reflects light and dull absorbs light. Thirdly picking up undertones is a legitimate way of brightening the whole space. And fourthly the opposite of yellow is purple and as much as I love purple, I personally would never suggest that joshandeliza paint her rooms that color, mainly because what she is looking for is to lighten and brighten her rooms. Lastly yellow/golden tones are warm tones so can compliment skin tones if they are chosen carefully. Think candle light it is a warm glowing light that is often very yellow and most people look great in it....See MoreHow to prevent fabric from fading?

Comments (19)I think we are going to reface the fireplace so we can put a flatscreen above. I am also thinking maybe we could angle the couch and put it where the tv currently is. We cant put anything against the wall where the large mirror is lcoated, this is the primary foot traffic area and the 'short' end of the room. I still like the idea of a light colored rug, even with a toddler and two dogs, maybe I can find something indoor/outdoor (the current blue rug is indoor/outdoor) or one of those flatweave rugs, they seem to hold up well - no????...See MoreHow to keep wood floor from fading from sun?
Comments (13)Professionally installed window film is the best protection against fading you can add to your home, other than taking out your windows and bricking in the space... Let me address a few of the common misconceptions: - "Applying UV film to some windows has caused the glass to shatter (excess heat build up between the panels = shattered glass)." Applying a film with too much solar absorption can cause a thermal stress crack. We typically see this when a film is installed by someone who did not follow manufacturer's guidelines for safe application. Imagine a cold, sunny morning where the glass in an east facing window will heat up very rapidly. Window film adds stress to the glass, some films more than others which can lead to a crack. Reputable film manufacturers cover this type of incident under warranty, even if your windows are out of warranty. - "Some UV films have been known to void warranties" I read window manufacturer warranties regularly and there is no standard. Applying films can void your warranty. Our Vista Gold Warranty backed by Eastman Chemical matches your existing window warranty for any film application. You get the protection and performance you want from the window film and the piece of mind from the best warranty in the industry. - "Window film has to be dark to work" New technologies offer the same type of protection while having minimal impact on appearance. Nothing can eliminate fading but window film is the only option that allows you to keep your view while drastically reducing the fading of your furnishings....See MorePaul f
